Chapter 91
The three of them walked into the new house together, with Emily excitedly showing Amelia around.
"Good, really good." The smile never left Amelia's face as her eyes swept around the room, filled with undisguised satisfaction.
Although this house was slightly smaller compared to the villa she used to live in.
But this house was the result of Emily's own hard work.
Seeing Emily able to live such a good life on her own, she couldn't help but feel comforted.
If life could just continue peacefully and steadily like this, that would be enough.
Now they each had their new lives, everything was thriving and developing in a good direction.
And this was the best outcome.
Watching the mother and daughter discussing things ahead, William fell back a step, following behind them.
He seemed to be looking around at the surroundings, but if someone paid attention, they would notice that his gaze was actually always on Emily.
From beginning to end, his eyes never truly left Emily.
And if someone who knew him well found out, they would understand that this was actually William's way of protecting Emily.
The last bedroom Emily showed Amelia was the children's room.
The moment she pushed open the door, Amelia immediately saw three little faces lying side by side.
She was somewhat surprised and even rubbed her eyes.
Wait, what was going on?
She clearly remembered Emily only had two children!
Could it be that during the years she stayed at the nursing home, Emily had another one?
But that didn't make sense either!
That extra child looked exactly like Oscar, like they were cut from the same mold.
She couldn't have given birth to them at different times, right? Not to mention they looked the same age.
Seeming to sense Amelia's surprise, Emily cleared her throat. "Mom, this child is..."
She was about to introduce Aiden's identity, but opening her mouth, she got a bit stuck for a moment.
How should she introduce Aiden to Amelia?
Just then, the three children seemed to sense an outsider's arrival and opened their eyes one after another.
Three pairs of bright, watery eyes fell on Emily at the same instant.
Nina was the first to react. Her eyes lit up, and without even putting on slippers, she got off the bed and threw herself into Emily's arms. "Mommy, you're finally back."
She hugged Emily's legs, rubbing her little face against them again and again, saying in a sweet childlike voice, "Mommy, I missed you so much!"
Watching Nina acting cute, Emily's eyes softened.
She picked Nina up and introduced her to Amelia, "Mom, this is Nina."
"Oh my, Nina has grown so big." Amelia looked at the child who had obviously grown much bigger, a hint of nostalgia flashing in her eyes.
"When I saw her before, she was just a tiny little thing, so soft when held. Now in the blink of an eye, she's grown this big." As she said this, some loneliness and regret flashed in her eyes.
If it weren't absolutely necessary, she wouldn't have wanted to miss the children's growing up process either.
Fortunately, it wasn't too late now.
Hearing Emily's way of addressing her, and looking at the somewhat familiar woman in front of her, Nina immediately realized this was her grandmother.
"Grandma, I'm Nina." Nina struggled down from Emily's arms and reached out to touch Amelia's fingers.
Looking at the little girl calling out to her so sweetly, Amelia felt in a trance that she was beginning to overlap with how Emily looked as a child.
"Good child." Tears welled up in Amelia's eyes, and then she reached out to hold her tightly in her arms.
Seeming to sense Amelia's somewhat emotional state, Nina also reached out to hug her back, "Grandma, we're all doing well, don't cry, don't cry."
Nina imitated the way Emily used to comfort her, gently comforting Amelia.
"Yes, that's right! Today is a good day for our family reunion, why would I cry?" Amelia loosened her arms and casually wiped away her tears.
At this moment, Oscar and Aiden had also tidied themselves up, wearing slippers and standing neatly in front of her.
Amelia looked at the two boys and couldn't help but tap them on their heads.
"There really are two of them." She muttered this sentence, then turned to look at Emily with a serious expression.
"You tell me yourself, what's going on here?"
She knew Emily had an older son, but wasn't the older son supposed to have died shortly after birth?
What was the deal with this child now?
"Mom, I can't explain this to you in just a few words." As Emily spoke, she unconsciously glanced at William standing nearby, a hint of resentment flashing in her eyes.
She had asked several times already, but William just kept his mouth shut about Aiden's background.
If he wouldn't say, Emily couldn't pry it out of him!
William met her gaze and just nodded slightly, not saying another word.
Amelia had just noticed their interaction when she was drawn away by the children's greetings.
"Grandma, hello."
Oscar and Aiden greeted her in unison, their expressions slightly different on their little faces, making it easy to tell them apart at a glance.
"Hello." Amelia gently patted both their heads, then rummaged through her bag and pulled out two gifts, before putting them back in.
The three children didn't actually notice her behavior.
Because Oscar and Aiden were currently urging Nina to put on her shoes properly.
Nina liked to walk around barefoot at home, but this was too easy to catch a cold, so Oscar and Aiden didn't approve.
But they really had no way to deal with this sister.
They could only help her put on her shoes, one on each side.
Nina just sat between them giggling, not saying anything.
Watching this harmonious scene, Amelia quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
After Nina had her shoes on, the three children stood in front of Amelia again and introduced themselves one by one.
"I'm Oscar."
"I'm Aiden." Aiden quietly took a small step back, his expression carrying some unease.
Amelia noticed his behavior and smiled without saying much, though she treated all three children equally.
Before long, the children were gathered around Amelia asking questions, and with Emily sitting nearby with a beaming smile, William even felt like he was being left out.
Wasn't Aiden his son?
This was the kid he raised with his own hands, but clearly he liked Emily more.
"I'm going to buy groceries, we'll have a big meal later."
William was still thinking when Emily checked the time and stood up.
"Great!" the children responded in unison, but William suddenly stood up at this moment.
