Chapter 242 Brothers Settle Accounts
Chapter 242 Brothers Settle Accounts
The next morning, Matthew headed to the office.
Obsidian Group, the top business in Silvermist City, was a massive company, backed by the powerful Moore family.
As the current heir, Matthew had officially taken over the company.
As the CEO, Matthew's return caused quite a stir.
He had been away for some time, with the vice president and secretary handling everything in his absence. His sudden return left many people scrambling.
However, most of the female employees couldn't help but excitedly discuss how Matthew seemed to have gotten even more handsome over the past few months.
Matthew had no time for these distractions and headed straight to Francis's office.
Francis was a useless figure with no business acumen, and his position as general manager was forcibly arranged by Nolan.
Since he didn't make any decisions, he held little real power, so when Matthew kicked open his office door, no one outside dared to stop him.
Francis was on the phone with his new girlfriend when the door was kicked open, causing the crystal chandelier to shake violently.
Seeing Matthew, Francis's knuckles turned white as he quickly hung up the phone.
Matthew didn't bother closing the door and walked straight in, exuding a terrifying aura.
Francis's Adam's apple bobbed, and a thin layer of cold sweat formed on his back. He instantly guessed why Matthew was there.
The two brothers hadn't seen each other in a long time, and despite their numerous conflicts, Francis only dared to provocate Matthew behind his back.
Face-to-face, Francis couldn't hold out for even a few seconds before fear took over. He stood up instinctively, fumbling to explain.
"Matthew, let me explain."
Francis's dark gray suit was stained with sweat, and the once arrogant member of the Moore family couldn't even look Matthew in the eye.
"Explain?" Matthew sneered, pulling up a chair and sitting a short distance from Francis, his cold gaze fixed on him.
"What's there to explain? You teamed up with Nova to try to take me down, to kill me. She told me everything."
"If you wanted me dead so badly, why didn't you do it yourself?"
Gasps echoed down the hallway as employees secretly watched, shocked that Francis would do such a thing to his own brother.
Francis tried to close the door to avoid further embarrassment, but Matthew stopped him.
Leaning in, Matthew's words were like ice.
"You know, rats like you deserve nothing but contempt!"
Matthew's words made Francis tremble.
Matthew's entire demeanor was terrifying, and Francis couldn't meet his gaze, his eyes bloodshot behind his glasses as he desperately tried to explain.
"It's all Nova's fault! She promised to help me..."
Before he could finish, Matthew's fist connected with his jaw, sending Francis sprawling onto the carpet, blood dripping from his mouth onto Matthew's hand.
The room fell silent, and most of the onlookers outside quietly slipped away.
Matthew took his time, calmly wiping his hand before kicking Francis in the waist.
Francis was in pain but had to stifle his cries, looking like a beaten dog.
Matthew tossed the blood-stained tissue onto Francis's face and turned to leave, warning him, "Next time, I'll kill you."
Matthew's figure disappeared through the door, and no one dared to check on Francis.
In the office, Francis pulled the tissue from his face, his nails digging into his palms as he glared in the direction Matthew had left.
He vowed to settle this score with Matthew.
Nova wouldn't escape unscathed either.
But right now, Francis was more interested in someone else.
He pulled out his phone and smiled at the message from his informant.
No wonder Matthew had suddenly returned to Silvermist City; he had come back with the girl he liked.
What was her name? Elizabeth?
A girl from the small town of Skyhaven City, abused by her family, couldn't be that formidable.
Thinking of this, Francis spat out blood and closed his office door, calling his subordinates with hatred in his heart.
"Find out Elizabeth's address!"
Francis knew that Elizabeth was Matthew's weak spot. If he could get her under his control, he could dominate Matthew and Obsidian Group.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth was already up, arranging accommodations for Alice, who was arriving soon.
Since Alice was moving her studio, Elizabeth had bought a large apartment for her, conveniently on the same floor as her own.
The 2,000-square-foot apartment was already furnished, with basic amenities in place. Elizabeth just needed to do some light shopping to set it up.
Elizabeth knew Alice's style well, but she wasn't familiar with the local shopping areas, so she called Matthew for help.
Matthew had just left the office and was on his way to pick her up.
With everything settled, Elizabeth went back to prepare.
But before Matthew arrived, Louis called.
Elizabeth answered, and Louis sounded excited and urgent.
"Elizabeth, is it true that Alice's flight arrives in Silvermist City today?"
Elizabeth chuckled, "Yes."
Louis grinned, "I happen to have half a day off today. Can I join you to pick her up?"
"Of course," Elizabeth agreed, "I'll send you the flight details."
After the call, Elizabeth put her phone away and looked up to see a sleek Maybach pulling up outside her apartment building.
People turned to look as the car door opened, revealing a long leg clad in dark gray trousers.
Matthew's slender fingers gripped the car door frame as he stood up, his tailored suit highlighting his perfect shoulders, a discreet platinum cufflink at his collar.
He adjusted his collar, his face stern, and as he stood tall, his presence was palpable, causing passersby to slow down and stare.
But Matthew's cold expression softened into a warm smile as soon as he saw Elizabeth.
"Traffic was bad, so I came early."
