Chapter 142 Imprisoned
Scarlett was brushing her teeth while Daniel just stood beside her, staring at her.
Scarlett found it a bit strange and looked at him.
"Aren't you going to brush your teeth?"
As she spoke, she unconsciously glanced at the toiletries beside her, and her movements gradually slowed down.
Only now did she realize this was Regal Estate, her and Daniel's marital home, their former home.
When she left, she had only packed some clothes and didn't take anything else.
But now she discovered that even though she'd been gone for so long, nothing at Regal Estate had been changed.
Her toiletries were all still there - towel, toothbrush, cup, comb, cosmetics, and even her two hair ties were still hanging on the little hook under the towel rack.
It was as if she had never left at all.
Actually, that wasn't quite right - there were some changes.
Scarlett noticed that someone else's things had been placed next to her toiletries.
They were Daniel's toiletries, placed right beside hers, making everything come in pairs.
Her things were all in warm colors, while his were in cool tones.
But many of these items were matching couples' sets, all carefully selected and bought by Scarlett herself back then.
These little touches held her hopes.
It's just that before, Daniel didn't share a bed with her. On the rare occasions he came back, they slept in separate rooms.
His toiletries had always been kept in the bathroom of the adjacent room.
But now, after she left, these things had been moved into the master bedroom's bathroom, catching Scarlett completely off guard.
This discovery threw Scarlett's thoughts into chaos again.
"I already washed up earlier. I've been to the office for two meetings already."
Daniel's response came from beside her, and Scarlett suddenly snapped back to reality.
Looking at the time, it was already mid-morning. Daniel had always been disciplined, getting up at six every morning to go running.
Only now did Scarlett notice that he wasn't wearing loungewear, but a suit.
So he hadn't just woken up with her in the same bed.
He probably hadn't slept beside her last night either - maybe he just happened to be there when she woke up.
But what about these toiletries?
Had he moved into the master bedroom after she left?
Why?
Scarlett realized she was truly pathetic - Daniel's actions, which might not mean anything at all, could still tug at her heartstrings and make her overthink everything.
She brushed her teeth vigorously, forcing herself to stop thinking about it.
"Then you should go. I'll come down after I finish getting ready."
Scarlett urged Daniel to leave. She really didn't understand what was so interesting about watching her wash up.
But Daniel seemed a bit worried. He nodded and reminded her before leaving.
"No rush, take your time."
Ever since learning she was pregnant, he had become somewhat anxious.
As if she were fragile glass, he always wanted to keep her in his sight.
This morning when he went to the Star Group for meetings, his mind was unsettled.
He had originally planned to come back at noon to have lunch with her, but by mid-morning he couldn't hold back anymore and pushed back his work schedule to come home early.
This was something he had never done before.
When Scarlett came downstairs, Jane had indeed prepared a lavish breakfast.
Daniel was already seated at the dining table, legs crossed, casually flipping through a financial newspaper.
Seeing Scarlett approach, he folded the newspaper and set it aside, then actually stood up to pull out the chair next to him for Scarlett.
Scarlett had intended to sit across from him, but seeing this, she had no choice but to walk over and sit beside him.
But his gentlemanly behavior didn't stop there. During the meal, he kept asking if she wanted to eat this or suggesting she try that.
She was hungry and eating quickly, so he kept reminding her to slow down and poured her a glass of water, placing it within reach.
He even held a napkin, wiping her lips whenever they got a bit messy.
Scarlett felt like a little baby being taken care of. Far from enjoying it, she felt uncomfortable all over.
When Daniel reached out once again, wanting to tuck a strand of Scarlett's hair behind her ear, Scarlett raised her hand to stop him.
She turned to look at him. "Daniel, aren't you eating?"
Daniel seemed to have been just taking care of her without touching his utensils.
"I ate this morning. Just watching you eat is enough."
Scarlett fell silent.
But being watched while eating made her feel so much pressure.
"This way, I'll get indigestion. What are you even doing?"
Scarlett put down her utensils, turned to face Daniel, and simply stopped eating.
Daniel's eyes dimmed uncontrollably. He wanted to accompany her during meals, and she was getting indigestion.
Daniel pressed his thin lips together slightly, nodded, stood up and said.
"I'll wait for you in the living room. Eat a bit more."
His tall figure walked toward the living room. Scarlett bit her lip, feeling that Daniel's back somehow looked a bit lonely.
She instantly felt a bit guilty, as if she had done something terrible, as if she had hurt him.
As his devoted admirer, how pathetic she was!
Scarlett raised her hand to pat her head and continued eating.
When she finished and left the dining room, Daniel was sitting on the living room sofa looking at his phone.
Bright sunlight enveloped him, his metal watch reflecting cold light - noble and lazy, distant and aloof.
It was as if the Daniel who had just taken such meticulous care of her during the meal had disappeared again.
But this version of him was more normal and made Scarlett more relaxed.
She walked over, sat down on the sofa, and reached out toward Daniel.
"Where's my phone?"
Her phone had been confiscated by Daniel yesterday. She had looked for it in the room after washing up but didn't see it.
She had promised Sarah she would check in as soon as the plane landed, but she still hadn't contacted Sarah. Who knows how worried Sarah must be.
But Daniel raised his hand and directly grasped Scarlett's hand, saying.
"I'm keeping your phone for now. When you come to your senses, I'll naturally give it back to you."
Scarlett was stunned. "What do you mean? Come to my senses about what?"
"Naturally, come to your senses about what you should tell me, and also, realize that leaving me isn't a wise decision."
Daniel's voice was low and calm, even carrying a hint of warmth.
But the dominance in his words made Scarlett's heart jump.
Only now did she realize that Daniel stopping her wasn't on a whim, wasn't because he was upset about her escape and wanted to humiliate her one last time.
He had truly changed his mind!
He regretted the divorce, overturning all her plans.
The window she had worked so hard to pry open was simply slapped shut by him again, sealed tight.
Scarlett was absolutely furious. She yanked her hand back forcefully, grabbed a throw pillow beside her and threw it at Daniel.
"What do I need to come to my senses about? You're the one who needs to come to your senses, Daniel. Are you crazy?!"
Daniel caught the pillow without even furrowing his brow.
"No, you will come to your senses. Stay home and think it over carefully. I have a business lunch, so I can't eat with you at noon, but I'll come back to keep you company in the evening."
As Daniel spoke, he stood up, leaned over, and before Scarlett could react, kissed the top of her head, then turned and strode away.
Scarlett's chest heaved. She couldn't help but jump up and chase after him.
But as soon as she reached the entrance hall, two servants appeared and blocked her way.
"Move aside."
"Where is Mrs. Wilson going?"
The servants were respectful but wouldn't budge an inch.
Scarlett stared at them. "Daniel won't let me leave?"
"Mr. Daniel Wilson said Mrs. Scarlett Wilson needs more rest. If you want to move around, we can accompany Mrs. Scarlett Wilson for a walk in the garden. If you want to go out somewhere, Mr. Daniel Wilson will take Mrs. Scarlett Wilson when he's finished with work."
What they meant was that her range of activity was now limited to within Regal Estate.
Scarlett laughed in anger. Daniel was actually restricting her freedom!
What did he mean? Until she agreed not to divorce him and gave up the idea of leaving, was he going to keep her imprisoned?
