Chapter 294 Difficult Birth Night
Chapter 294 Difficult Birth Night
Daniel's knuckles gripping the phone suddenly tightened, bones jutting out sharply in the darkness as if about to break.
A chill crept up his spine, and that uneasy feeling swept over him again.
"Question him thoroughly!"
He ordered in a low voice, and without waiting for Ray's response, immediately hung up and dialed Scarlett's number.
During those few seconds waiting for the ringtone, Daniel's breathing became rapid.
Jumbled information flashed through his mind. He had thought John ran away because he discovered he was being followed.
But now the news of John fleeing Shadow City was fake. If John was still hiding in Shadow City, what was he planning to do?
Daniel's mind flashed back to that day when John appeared before Scarlett, and Scarlett's face turned pale with distress.
He couldn't bear to imagine if John had been lurking around Scarlett, waiting for an opportunity.
Daniel's palm gripping the phone became clammy.
However, the phone kept ringing with no answer.
Daniel frowned tightly and called Gia.
At this moment, Alice was being carried out, screaming continuously as she was loaded into the car.
Waverly walked over quickly, shouting, "Daniel, let's go to the hospital together."
She reached out to pat Daniel's shoulder, but he suddenly turned around.
Thunder crashed outside the window, highlighting his stern face.
Daniel's skin looked pale, but his eyes were terrifyingly red, like a beast in the dark.
Waverly stepped back in fright. "Daniel."
But Daniel swept past Waverly like a gust of wind, his figure cold, yet his steps revealing urgency and haste.
After a few steps, he even started running.
Gia's phone also went unanswered, which was steadily abnormal.
Daniel's sharp instincts told him that something might have happened to Scarlett!
"Daniel! Wait for me."
Waverly was still chasing behind him. She followed Daniel's figure and ran out of the villa.
Outside, strong winds were blowing and heavy rain was pouring down.
Seeing Daniel come down, a bodyguard opened an umbrella, wanting to hold it for him.
Before the umbrella was fully opened, Daniel's figure had already rushed into the rain curtain, running quickly toward the parked car.
The courtyard was chaotic now, with ambulance lights flashing in the pitch-black rain.
Alice kept screaming on the stretcher while doctors and nurses tried to calm her.
Waverly raced, grabbed the umbrella from the bodyguard, and ran after Daniel.
"Daniel, what are you doing? Where are you going? Why aren't you using an umbrella? You'll get sick!"
Waverly's voice was torn apart by the elements.
But Daniel felt everything had become unreal, like an illusion.
He had only one thought now.
He needed to get back to Shadow City as soon as possible and see Scarlett!
He prayed in his heart that Scarlett still had two bodyguards protecting her, so nothing would go wrong.
He thought, Daniel, you're just too nervous, you're overthinking it.
You know Scarlett was asleep, she definitely couldn't hear the phone ringing.
Even if she heard it, she's so playful, she answers your calls based on her mood.
Maybe she's holding her phone right now, secretly pleased, deliberately making you distraught.
And Gia, when Scarlett sleeps she slacks off too, probably fell asleep as well, so lazy, she should be taught a lesson.
Thinking this way, Daniel pulled open the car door. As if responding to his prayer, his phone suddenly rang.
Daniel looked down abruptly, large raindrops falling on the lit screen.
Scarlett!
A light suddenly flashed in Daniel's dark eyes. Standing in the cold wind and rain, he smiled with relief.
He answered eagerly, putting it to his ear. "Scarlett."
However, before his voice fully came out, the smile froze on his face, suddenly torn apart by a fierce, sinister expression.
Because what came from the other end wasn't Scarlett's voice.
It was John's vicious, malicious voice.
Something had truly transpired to Scarlett!
Rewind to thirty minutes earlier.
Scarlett was suddenly jolted awake from her sleep by an frantic phone ringtone.
She groggily fumbled for her phone and picked up.
"it's an emergency, Mr. Lewis's vitals suddenly are crashing, he's been rushed to the OR for emergency surgery. get here now!"
The caller was Kaia, James's caregiver. Scarlett suddenly snapped awake and leapt from the couch.
Scarlett shouted for Gia, and without stopping clothes, bolted out.
Gia snatched a heavy jacket and rushed out of the room to follow. They exited the unit and piled intothe elevator.
Scarlett wanted to ask Kaia about the details, but there were uproar of nurses urging on Kaia's end, summoning next of kin, and then the call cut out.
recently, James's condition had clearly been stabilizing. How could this suddenly happen?
As Scarlett burst from of the elevator, she quickly dialed of Vance Arman, the chief physician of the medical staff, and called him, but went to voicemail Vance's phone.
instantly, the hospital called, officially alerting her that James was in dire state and being revived.
Scarlett shed all any uncertainty and dove into of the building despite the wind and rain.
Bodyguard Rocky pulled around. Kaia helped the anxious Scarlett inside, while another bodyguard, Zaid, sat in the front seat.
The car peeled away Radiant Grove and accelerated toward the hospital.
The storm intensified suddenly. In the dead of night, there were few cars on the road, and they drove fast.
Scarlett sat in the back seat, intensely anxious. Gia gripped Scarlett's hand, still trying to solace her.
"Ms. Lewis, stay calm too much. Dr. Arman's is unreachable, he must have already arrived at the hospital to save Mr. Lewis. Everything will be fine, don't stress the unborn child."
Just then, Zaid, who was attempting a dial in the passenger seat, suddenly spoke.
"Something's not right. Why can't I get through to Mr. Wilson?"
Zaid first thought it was poor reception due to the weather, but when two calls didn't go through, he realized something was wrong.
Rocky instinctively slowed down, but it was too late. The car was approaching an crossroads.
A blinding high beam suddenly shot over.
Then, from another side road, a truck suddenly darted out, heading straight for Scarlett's car.
Scarlett felt everything go white before her eyes. She widened her eyes, seeing only high beams.
"Watch out!"
"Protect Mrs. Wilson!"
Shouts filled the car. Scarlett couldn't tell who was shouting. In a split second, the truck rammed them.
A loud bang.
At the critical moment, Rocky forcibly turned the steering wheel. The truck missed the back seat where Scarlett was seated, smashed into the passenger side, and careened through the rain before striking the embankment.
Scarlett's body was thrown toward the interior panel. Gia held Scarlett tightly, protecting her.
Scarlett felt lightheaded and dazed, wailing, "Gia!"
Gia's head cracked against the window. Scarlett labored through the dizziness and vertigo to raise her gaze, crimson fluid seeping onto her face.
But the truck persisted. The blinding light swerved and penetrated into the car again, illuminating the vivid blood on the back of Scarlett's hand.
This fully confirmed it was intentional—they were targeting her!
Zaid in the passenger seat, who took the brunt of the impact, had his phone ejected. His slumped over against the seat, his fate unknown.
Rocky, the driver, recovered, cleared his mind hard, quickly engaged reverse, and at the same time pulled out a gun from his waist, loaded it, and fired at the truck's driver's seat.
The screeching of tires was piercing. The bullet penetrated the truck's windshield. The glass shattered, revealing a familiar, fierce, and vicious face in the driver's seat.
The bullet grazed his face, blood streaming down. That face looked like a demon.
It was John!
Scarlett's pupils contracted.
Before Rocky could fire a second shot, the truck crazily crashed into them again.
Everything spun. Then there was deathly silence in the car.
"Gia, Rocky!"
Scarlett leaned against the window, sticky red blood trickling down her forehead.
She murmured their names, hoping for a response.
What happened to them?
Why was there no sound at all? No!
No, nothing can happen to them!
Even if she survived, she couldn't bear such a price!
Tears streamed down Scarlett's face. She wanted to do something, but her abdomen cramped in waves.
Clearly, warm, thick liquid was flowing out. Something had happened to Bunny.
