Chapter 295 Can't Wait for Daniel
Chapter 295 Can't Wait for Daniel
The baby's movements suddenly became violent— Bunny was struggling to survive!
Scarlett pressed hard on her belly. "Bunny, I'm here. You have to be strong. We'll get through this together. It's going to be okay."
She pushed hard against the car door, and finally it opened.
Scarlett stumbled out of the car. The rain pounded down on her, the cold cutting to the bone.
But nothing compared to the footsteps she heard behind her. She turned back in terror and saw John.
It was him — he'd gotten out of the truck and was coming after her.
Just then, her phone started ringing in her pocket.
She clutched her violently contracting, agonizingly painful belly and ran forward in panic, her trembling fingers fumbling for her phone.
Unfortunately, by the time she pulled out her phone, she had almost no strength left.
Her steps were heavy, her fingers shaking. She couldn't swipe to answer, and stumbled, falling into the muddy water.
Her phone flew out of her hand.
Scarlett looked back. Rain washed away her tears as John came closer and closer.
She propped up her heavy, aching body and crawled forward, inching along, reaching for her phone.
Beneath her, blood mixed with rainwater, leaving a winding trail.
The deep red was diluted to pale pink by the rain. A pair of dirty shoes stepped into it, coming closer step by step.
Scarlett finally reached her phone, her nearly transparent fingers trembling as she pressed hard on the side button.
Her emergency contact —Daniel.
She silently told Bunny in her heart, "Don't be afraid, baby. Daniel will come save us."
The moment the call connected, tears poured from Scarlett's eyes. But her lips had barely moved when the phone was cruelly snatched from her palm.
John crouched down beside Scarlett, holding the phone.
He cruelly enjoyed watching her fall into despair and pleading, then reached out and put it on speaker.
"Daniel, if you want your wife and kid to live, get 5 billion dollars ready and wait for me to contact you!"
Without waiting for a response, John decisively hung up and hurled the phone away.
John grabbed Scarlett by the hair and lifted her head.
Rain poured down on her bloodless face as John swung his hand and slapped her.
"Bitch! You've ruined my whole life! You just heard it too, didn't you? Damn it, Daniel's still with his mistress right now!
You better pray he still cares about you and that little scum in your belly, or I'm taking you down with me!"
Scarlett's ears rang and her vision spun, her mouth filling with the taste of blood.
John dragged her up from the ground and carried her toward the truck.
She stared wide-eyed at the dark, heavy sky. Her eyes stung, her whole body in agony.
Soaked through—was it blood or rain? She was like a fish out of water, unable to catch her breath.
Yes, she had heard it too.
When the phone connected, she'd heard the sound of an ambulance, and Alice's screaming voice.
Faintly, she could hear a doctor loudly trying to calm her.
"Stay calm, take deep breaths, trust us — you and the baby will both be fine!"
But what about her and Bunny?
Who would come save them?
"Help... help me."
Scarlett opened her lips, screaming with all her strength.
But somehow, her voice was so small it was easily drowned out by the rain. Even John didn't bother to look.
John threw her in the truck. He was about to go back to the driver's seat.
But Scarlett used every bit of her strength to grab his clothes, her eyes bloodshot as she let out a wail.
"John, take me to the hospital! The baby's coming. If I die, you'll get nothing!"
John shook Scarlett off forcefully. Scarlett fell back into the truck bed as John sneered viciously.
"Then give birth! Am I stopping you? What? After being a Wilson family socialite for over ten years, you really think you're someone important!
Women giving birth — what's the big deal? Just do it right here! Once you give birth, I can double the ransom!"
Bang! the door slammed shut.
John spat on the ground and went to pull open the driver's door.
Though he'd chosen this route because it had little traffic, and the weather meant no one was passing by for now, Daniel would definitely call the police immediately and send people.
John had already planned his route and needed to leave quickly.
But just then, a blinding headlight hit John's eyes.
John instinctively turned back. A silver gray car was speeding straight toward him.
With a dull thud, before John could even react, he was sent flying.
He rolled across the wet ground and crashed against the roadside, lying in a pool of blood.
The car that had hit him scraped along the side of the truck, sending up a shower of sparks.
Finally, with a sharp screech of brakes, it stopped right in front of the truck.
The door opened, and a tall, upright figure stepped out.
His expression was cold and stern as he strode quickly to the truck, pulled open the door, and saw the scene before him. His face changed dramatically.
Scarlett's white dress was stained red with blood, her hair disheveled, barely alive.
But she was conscious, consciously struggling to reach forward, trying to bang on the door for help.
He jumped into the truck bed, quickly took off his suit jacket to wrap around the curled up Scarlett, and carefully lifted her from the truck.
"Scarlett! Hang on!"
His voice was deep and powerful. Scarlett fell into his arms, clutching at his shirt.
"Bunny... save the baby."
"Okay, I'm taking you to the hospital right now. You and the baby will both be fine!"
He looked down to calm her emotions and jumped down from the truck bed holding her.
The faint, scattered light illuminated his face — his jawline was taut, with equally sharp angles.
It was Theron.
He carried her quickly to the car. The back seat was already open, with Steven and Maeve sitting inside, clearly too anxious to stay seated and about to get out.
"How did it get this bad? Quick, quick!"
Steven saw Scarlett being carried over and his face changed too. He leaned forward and took Scarlett from Theron's arms into the back seat.
Theron quickly turned the car around and sped toward the hospital.
"Steven, Sophia's covered in blood! Sophia's going into labor — what do we do? Sophia's lost so much blood, she's so cold."
Scarlett lay in the back seat, her head resting on Steven's lap.
Maeve's small body knelt beside her, tightly gripping Scarlett's hand while tremblingly using her other hand to wipe the blood from her legs.
A scene from twenty-two years ago flashed before Steven's eyes, filled with painful memories.
Back then, their daughter Sophia had a difficult labor. Though she eventually gave birth to Ingrid successfully, she nearly died from hemorrhaging.
Sophia barely survived, but her health was ruined. She didn't last many years before passing away early.
Steven knew Maeve was remembering that time. His voice hoarse, he said, "Theron, drive faster! Your grandmother and I can handle it!"
Theron had indeed been holding back, worried about Maeve and Steven's age.
When he'd hit John earlier, Theron had worried they couldn't take it. Now, hearing this, he pushed the car to its limit.
"Child, hold on. You absolutely cannot fall asleep."
Steven comforted Scarlett while Maeve covered her with a blanket and rubbed her ice-cold feet.
Scarlett was still conscious, struggling to stay alert. "In the car..."
"Don't worry, we've already called the police and an ambulance. We'll be at the hospital very soon."
Steven knew what Scarlett was worried about, his eyes flashing with tenderness.
Scarlett bit down hard, enduring the pain without a sound, but seemed to hear the sound of an ambulance passing by.
Her anxious heart eased a little. She bore it silently, but smelled the increasingly strong scent of blood in the car.
By the time she was wheeled into the delivery room, Scarlett's consciousness was fading. The doctor's voice seemed to come from far away.
"The patient is hemorrhaging with a difficult labor— we need to operate immediately! Where's the family? Who's the father? Sign the surgery consent form now."
The operating room door closed. The bright lights shone into her eyes.
The night of difficult labor was so long. In the end, she couldn't wait for Daniel.
