Chapter 297 Time Rewinds, I Still Choose James
Chapter 297 Time Rewinds, I Still Choose James
Today was relatively warm compared to the past few days. No snow, just a few degrees below zero Fahrenheit. But the moment Milo and Caspian locked eyes, Gloria felt the temperature drop significantly.
The chill crept from the soles of her feet through her entire body. Her body went cold, her back felt icy.
Gloria hadn't heard much gossip about this Milo everyone kept whispering about, but what little she had heard fell into two categories: his sex scandals and his ruthlessness.
Caspian had told her about his background. First of all, he wasn't a Silverlake Springs resident, yet he had dark forces spread all over the world.
These were things the Rivers family didn't have.
His business was shady to begin with. To put it bluntly, if the Rivers family went up against him, they would definitely suffer greater losses.
Although Gloria figured that since he hadn't bothered her back then, and now that she was pregnant and married, he had even less reason to do anything.
Going up against the Rivers family wouldn't benefit him either. Nobody would be stupid enough to do something that would hurt both sides.
Gloria understood all this logically, but the tense atmosphere between the two men still made her uneasy.
"Has Mr. Knight been in Silverlake Springs lately? We should get together sometime if you're free."
Milo tilted his head with a smile. "I'm free today."
That smile reminded Gloria of a clown, lips painted with lipstick stretching into a chilling grin.
Caspian remained calm and composed. "Good, then today it is."
Milo patted Caspian on the shoulder. "I've never met anyone like you who's not afraid of death and doesn't care about his life. I've always missed that time when..."
Caspian cut Milo off. "Mr. Knight, it's getting a bit late. Let me get my wife settled first, then we can drink until we drop."
Milo looked at his hand around Gloria's waist, a mocking playfulness in his eyes. "Ms. Mitchell, I remember you once said that you and your boyfriend had a great relationship and you would never change your mind."
Gloria held back her inner fear, gripping Caspian's hand tightly. "People change."
"I heard that after you got married, your ex-husband didn't treat you well and even got another woman pregnant. Have you ever regretted turning down my offer back then?"
Gloria looked straight into his eyes, her gaze cold. "The reason I got divorced today is because our marriage had problems, but the me back then would never regret that decision. If I could turn back time, I would still choose James."
The wind swept by. James, slightly drunk, had just come out and heard those words.
For a moment, he thought he was hearing things.
But Gloria was right there, not far away, clearly saying she would choose him.
The smile on Milo's lips didn't fade, but there was obvious anger in his eyes.
Gloria suddenly noticed that Rachel, usually so loud and obnoxious, was unusually calm now, standing to the side without saying a word.
It wasn't that she couldn't be arrogant, it was that she didn't dare to be arrogant in front of this man.
Milo had a gun.
He was an extremely dangerous person.
Gloria felt uneasy. Had she said the wrong thing?
James also sensed the strange atmosphere between them. He walked toward the group. "Caspian."
Milo smiled with amusement. "Isn't this Gloria's ex-husband? What a coincidence."
James had never dealt with him before, and they had no overlapping business interests. He stayed calm, trying to figure out who this person was.
Caspian introduced him. "This is Milo Knight."
Milo was someone nobody wanted to mess with.
James didn't know that the person who had tried to keep Gloria was him, because Gloria hadn't run into any trouble back then. He had just assumed it was a lie made up by other artists attacking her.
Until Milo suddenly spoke up. "Mr. Williams, you had a good wife. Too bad you were given the chance and didn't use it. Back then she turned down my two hundred million dollars for you, and in the end didn't even get a wedding. That's what she calls love, too stupid."
James's face immediately went cold.
Caspian interrupted him. "James, perfect timing. Help me take Gloria home. Mr. Knight and I have some things to discuss."
Gloria caught his hidden meaning. Worried that Caspian would be at a disadvantage, she gripped his hand tightly. "It's still early. Since you're old acquaintances, I'll help you entertain Mr. Knight."
But Milo suddenly leaned toward her, his eyes playful, like a bloodthirsty beast with blood still on its lips. "Ms. Mitchell, are you sure you want to play with me?"
