Chapter 295 Gloria, Come Sit on Me
Chapter 295 Gloria, Come Sit on Me
Gloria's mind pulled away from her memories, and she threw herself into Caspian's arms. "Caspian!"
"What did he do?"
Only then did Gloria snap back to reality, clutching tightly at the clothes around his waist. "He just said hello to me, I... I'm a little scared."
Back then, even though she had rejected Milo, he never showed his face throughout the whole thing.
That was the difference in status—she didn't have the right.
This status gap wasn't just about one person, it was about her background not being good enough.
So even now that she had become a member of the Rivers family, was Caspian's legitimate wife, a daughter-in-law acknowledged by the Rivers family members themselves, she still carried that old sense of inferiority.
"Don't be afraid, Gloria. I'm here."
Caspian gently stroked her hair, giving her some relief before leading her to the car, leaning down to fasten her seatbelt.
He had driven over to pick her up himself. Luckily it wasn't too far, making their arrival quick.
He held Gloria's cold hand comfortingly, using his own body heat to drive away the chill.
"Did he do anything to you back then?"
Gloria shook her head. "I rejected him. I thought he would give me trouble or blacklist me, but strangely, nothing happened afterward. I had almost forgotten about it, but just now the way he looked at me gave me chills."
"Actually," Caspian gently rubbed the back of her hand, "I was the one who handled it back then."
Gloria's eyes widened as a thought flashed through her mind. "I remember now—the person I bumped into that day was you!"
When she rejected Milo and went downstairs, she had bumped into someone. She had been so distracted that she didn't look closely, only catching a whiff of sandalwood—that must have been Caspian!
"It was me. I saw how pale you looked and guessed you must have run into some trouble, so I investigated starting with that dress, and that's how I found out about it."
Caspian leaned down, pressing his forehead against Gloria's. "Don't be afraid, Gloria. I protected you once back then, and now that you're Mrs. Rivers, he can't touch you any more.''
"Who exactly is Milo?"
He had been in the entertainment industry for years, and like her, very few people had actually seen Milo. Even the women who were with him—no one dared mention this person.
"Remember the Owens Family I told you about? The Knight family and the Owens Family have a very good relationship. If the Owens Family operated in both the light and the shadows, the Knight family was pure darkness—a blade hidden in the night. They were the ones who handled the dirty work."
Gloria recalled him saying the Owens Family were very powerful. Since they were an elite family, the Knight family must be quite formidable too.
"What method did you use back then to make him leave me alone? He seems like someone who shows no mercy."
And somewhat both wicked and arrogant.
He was completely different from the men of the Rivers family.
"He really didn't want to back down. I used some leverage to make a deal with him."
Gloria asked, "What was it?"
"Nothing much, just some business interests. From now on, don't go out alone. Just rest and take care of yourself, and don't worry about anything."
Gloria's instinct told her that leverage wasn't as simple as Caspian made it sound, especially since that person seemed a bit crazy.
And with his status, he probably wasn't short of money.
Maybe it was out of respect for the Rivers family.
Gloria obediently nodded in approval to Caspian's advice.
Caspian had driven over to pick her up himself. He got into the driver's seat and started the car. Gloria glanced at the rearview mirror and noticed no fewer than ten cars following behind them.
Why was Caspian being so cautious when it came to this person?
Wasn't this setup a bit much?
She touched her belly, hoping nothing would go wrong. At worst, she would never go out alone again.
After all, she was just a pregnant woman. He wouldn't be interested in a pregnant woman, would he?
After all these years, who knows how many women he'd been through—how could he still have any interest in her?
Maybe when they just met, he was just messing with her.
Gloria told herself not to be so nervous. She should thank Caspian.
No wonder she won all those awards so easily. No wonder every script that came her way was better than the last. No wonder no one ever tried to pull the casting couch routine on her again.
It turned out he had been protecting her from behind the scenes all along. These thoughts running through her mind almost made her speechless, but she managed to say,
"Caspian, thank you."
She turned to look at Caspian, but only saw his profile looking more serious than ever before.
Gloria was about to speak when the car emerged from the garage, moving from darkness into light.
Once they were in the sunlight, Caspian's face returned to its usual calm, as if the severity she'd just seen was her imagination.
He replied, "It's not easy for a woman to make it in the entertainment industry. Being able to help you is my honor—nothing to thank me for."
"The weather's nice today. Let's eat out, so we don't have to deal with Mother and the others showing up again."
They finally had some time alone together, but who knew Isabella would follow them from Crystalbrook to Silverlake Springs.
"Okay, I'll do whatever you want." Gloria said.
Caspian was like her guardian angel. She didn't need to do anything or think about anything—just leave it all to him to arrange.
Caspian held the steering wheel with one hand, murmuring softly, "So good."
His voice was very quiet. Gloria turned to look at him. "What?"
Just then, the car stopped at a red light. Without warning, Caspian leaned over, cradling the back of her head with one hand, and kissed her lips hard.
In her mind, Caspian had always been the image of a gentleman, refined and courteous. She never imagined he would kiss her on a busy street.
This kind of thing—even she and James had never done it.
The traffic light was counting down, and her heart was racing wildly.
Although the windows had privacy tinting, anyone in the car in front just had to turn around to see them together.
Gloria's face flushed red.
Caspian's kiss wasn't gentle like before—it carried an overwhelming intensity, giving her no room to refuse.
So even a gentleman had such a wild side.
It wasn't until the honking from behind urged them on that Caspian finally released her, leaving one sentence on her lips: "I said, Gloria is so good."
The car sped away, but Gloria's heart took a long time to settle down.
Even her lips felt a bit numb from his kiss, as if his fresh, clean scent still lingered.
She rolled down the window a little, letting the cold wind blow across her face to cool the heat.
Just then, Caspian's hand quietly took hold of hers.
Gloria didn't pull away. Instead, she slipped her fingers between his.
Fingers intertwined, a lifetime together.
Their hearts were drawing closer bit by bit.
No longer like before, when they just felt like good friends.
Ambiguous pink bubbles swirled between them.
The car arrived at the restaurant's parking lot. The moment their eyes met, Caspian kissed her again.
He was no longer holding back—she was his wife, after all.
Between husband and wife, it was perfectly natural and right.
He didn't want to be a gentleman anymore. He didn't want to hold back.
His breath lingered on Gloria's lips: "Gloria, come sit on my lap."
