Chapter 105 105
Terry handed the chocolate box to Brooke.
"No sign of poison in the chocolate, Doc. It is safe and you can have it." He assured her.
Brooke couldn't help it this time around. She chuckled and shook her head. "You can have it all, Terry. Besides, I am not a fan of chocolate after all." She informed him.
"Oh... Well, that is a win on my side. But what kind of man wouldn't know what you like?" Terry added and he shrugged. Moved and stood by Nathan's side. He continued to eat the chocolate.
Soon, the two other bodyguards walked in with a set of flowers of different kinds in two separate boxes. When they dropped those off, one of the guards went back and brought in the gifts that Nathan came with.
When Nathan made sure everything was brought in, he turned to Brooke and said, "Bee, this is for you and the family as well."
When Ryan noticed Terry wasn't making a move to inspect them, he spoke up. "What do you mean? Aren't you going to inspect his? Just because he employed you doesn't mean he can't be a suspect too. If I am a suspect, then he is too." He said in anger.
Terry blinked once, twice at Ryan that was foaming in anger. "The boss is clear of any suspicion. We were with him when the flowers were assembled. I was also present at the pastry shop and every other gift shop that he went to. So no need to go through them again. I already know what is inside and I was there when they were packaged." He cleared.
Nathan gave a smile now, instead of the smirk he was given since the game turned in his favor.
Ryan was foaming even more. He was just played by Nathan's workers. He gave Nathan another death glare. So did Nathan towards Nathan.
Brooke noticed how the temperature around the two was dropping. She cleared her throat and said. "It's getting late, Ryan. I think we should get going." She then turned to Nathan and said, "Nathan, please take care of Liam."
"Fine. But at least take the three guards with you." Nathan insisted.
"That won't be necessary, Nathan. Terry would do. There will be security everywhere and I wouldn't require to take them all with me. Even Terry won't be able to go into the party. He has to wait for me outside." Brooke explained to Nathan.
Nathan wanted to insist further. But he didn't want to keep pushing Brooke, especially in the presence of Ryan. "If you think so, then it is." He said instead. He turned to Ryan and asked, "can I have a word?" He asked before walking to the side, signaling for Ryan to follow him.
Ryan, who has already wrapped his hand around Brooke's small waist, escorted her to his car. He then excused himself and walked to Nathan.
"You may have had one of your minions eat my chocolate and man-handled my flowers but in the end, I won. I got the girl-" Ryan began but was interrupted by Nathan.
"You are just an escort to a party. I wonder why you are making it sound like she chose you over me or you are dating." Nathan pointed out.
"You can say whatever you want to know. But that doesn't change the fact that I am the one with her now and not you." Ryan said.
Nathan looked at Ryan dead in the eyes. He wanted to punch his mouth that cannot stop talking nonsense. He hissed and then said, "I don't trust you around Bee. But since you will be her escort for the night, you have to protect her with your life. Nothing should happen to her because if anything happens, I swear to God I will have you pay." He promised.
"Jeez... Calm down, Nathan. I am sure between you and I, I love Bee more. Besides, it's a party we are attending, not a marathon race. It is the mayor's party, which would be heavily guarded. But either way, I wasn't ever going to let anything happen to Bee. Not on my watch." Ryan promised.
Without letting Nathan give a response, Ryan turned and went to the car. Terry also got into the backseat and soon, they were off to the mayor's party.
Nathan stood there watching as Ryan's car retreated from the front of the house. Until the car disappeared from his view before he walked back into the house. Liam was standing there. He also had a disappointed face as if he also felt defeat on his father's behalf. And not only his father was disappointed.
"There you are. I am glad you are still here." Jack said, after walking out of the dining room.
Just when Nathan thought his day couldn't get any worse. But seeing Jack and where he came out from did not give Nathan a good feeling. He feels his day is about to become a whole lot worse.
"Before you leave for the hotel with Liam, you should have dinner with us here. And before you say anything, I insist. I have dinner made specifically for you." Jack added looking a little too excited for offering someone else a meal.
Nathan gulped. He loosened his tie as he began to get sweaty. "Wh - what's for dinner, uncle?" He managed to ask.
Jack chuckled. "What is it? Why do you look disturbed? Giving up already?" He asked. "It is something special, if you must know."
"Can you be specific, please?" Nathan probed. He was scared for himself. He was scared that history might repeat itself. He wouldn't want that to happen. Plus, Brooke won't be there to make the process tolerable.
"You will find out soon, son. I asked again, do you want to give up now?" Jack asked again.
Nathan shook his head with a lot of energy. "No way. I won't give up. Not this easy and not now." He said with confidence. But deep down, he was worried. He silently prayed the dinner he was offered won't be another bull's testicles.
