Chapter 104 104
At the entrance of the Turners residence, Liam ran towards his father. Excitement was written all over his face. "Daddy! Daddy..." He screamed as he ran and jumped into his father's arms. "I am so happy to see you, daddy." He added while in the arms of his father.
"I am happy to be here too, son." Nathan said, while still embracing his son. He kissed Liam's hair before saying, "I am sorry I couldn't make it earlier. I was caught up with some work. But I made it. I am glad I arrived before dinner." He added.
After releasing Liam from the hug, he asked him. "Whatever is your mommy?"
Liam pointed towards the house. "She is in her room getting ready. I think she is going out with Uncle Ryan." He said the last part with a straight face.
"You think so?" Nathan asked through gritted teeth. "Why do you say so?"
"Because uncle Ryan is waiting for her in the living room." Liam spoke. "And he brought flowers and a gift with him."
Nathan hissed in annoyance. Ryan is really pushing it. It seems to start getting too fat and it is getting on his nerves.
"I brought flowers for your mommy as well. And gifts and treats too." Nathan revealed.
"Really! What did you bring for me?" Liam impatiently asked.
"A lot of treats. Your favorite." Nathan said. He didn't want to spoil the surprise for the boy just yet.
"Yay!" Liam said with excitement.
Nathan immediately asked Matteo and Andrew to bring the items into the house. Him and Liam also walked into the house. Just before he entered, Nathan gave one of the bodyguards, Terry a silent order.
The man nodded in response and walked in after his boss.
Nathan walked hand in hand with Liam. Immediately, he sets his eyes on Ryan, who is sitting in the living room. They stared at each other, exchanging daggers. The temperature of the room dropped to zero around the two.
When Nathan got closer to Ryan, Ryan also got up to match Nathan's height. The staring contest continued, making the moment feel even more tense.
Soon, the clearing of the throat from the stairs of the house caught their attention. They both turned in the direction and saw Brooke walking down the stairs.
At that moment, Nathan felt how dumb he was in the past. How he let Brooke slip away from him was his biggest mistake. And how he was so blinded by his young and ambitious self that he failed to see the beauty of a person like Brooke. He swallowed his own spew as she took his breath away.
Brooke is wearing a silk gown with thin straps. One strap on each side held the dress up, while two extra straps fell to the sides. It gave the clothes an even better look.
She had a clutch in her hand. When she stepped down to the last step, she came into full view of the two men, who couldn't take their eyes off of her. The dress showed off her beautiful curves. The slit on the dress that went a few inches above her knee, also showed off her slender legs.
Her hair was tied into a loose bun and she had dangling earrings on. A matching necklace that went with her earrings.
Nathan felt even more pain. His heart squeezed at the thought of why he allowed a person like Brooke slip away from him.
"Bee, you look absolutely breathtaking in that dress that I bought for you." Ryan announced.
At that moment, Nathan abruptly turned to Ryan. 'What did he just say? The dress he bought for her?' he thought to himself. The dress might have made Brooke look like a goddess. But hearing what Ryan said made him hate it at once.
Nathan then turned to Brooke and said, "The last time I sent Liam some gifts, there was a dress attached to it. Which was Ur favorite designer. Why didn't you wear it? It would definitely fit you more." He asked in a tone that he tried as much as he could to control his jealousy.
"Oh, I am sorry, Nathan. I didn't get to open the gift yet." Brooke replied.
Nathan could see Ryan smirking his way but he paid no attention to him. Even though he felt it like a sharp knife stabbed into his heart.
Ryan then began to walk towards Brooke to present her with his gift of roses and chocolate. He almost got to her when Terry appeared between them from nowhere.
"Mr Ronalds, excuse me. I see you are about to present the doctor Bee with some items." Terry said, crossing his hand in front of him.
"Yes, Is there any problem with that?" Ryan asked in irritation.
"No but there is a bigger one. Since the culprit has not been captured, we have to take all necessary measures. We have to protect doctor Bee. That includes inspecting anything that was handed to her, including your gifts." Terry added. His eyes fixed on the roses.
"Terry, I don't think that would be necessary. Ryan is a trusted friend." Brooke said.
"I am sorry Doctor. But it's protocol. I was trained to follow protocol with no exception. When something like this happens and the culprit is still on the loose, everyone is a suspect." Terry explained, still not budging to move from where he stood. "If you have nothing to hide Mr Ronalds, you wouldn't mind me inspecting your flowers and gift box."
"Fine." Ryan said before handing Terry the bouquet of roses. He watched as Terry pulled one stem of rose to another.
When he was done, he carelessly put them back together, not bothering to arrange them back how they were. He then handed the flowers to Brooke. "They are safe now, doc. The only problem here is the poor quality assembling of the flowers though. I easily dismantled them." He added.
It was Nathan's turn to smirk at Ryan. Brooke still ignored the two but she noticed what was happening between them.
Next, Terry then opened the gift box. It looked fancy but it happened to be a box of chocolates. "Ah... Who would have thought the content was edible." He said before he unwrapped one chocolate and put it in his mouth. "But now, how are we supposed to know that the rest of the chocolate is not poisoned?" He then ate another and another. Until he eats almost half of the content in the box.
He then turned to Brooke and stretched out the box. "No sign of poison in the chocolate, Doc. It is safe and you can have it.”
