Chapter 56

Chapter 56
I woke up early, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. Yesterday's events with Xavier had left me feeling happy and content, but I knew I still had to take care of the situation with Marco.

I got dressed and headed out to meet Marco, my mind focused on the task at hand. When I arrived at the agreed-upon location, Marco was already there, a smug look on his face.

"Ah, Lilith. Right on time," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I knew I could count on you."

I ignored his tone and got straight to the point. "Marco, I need your account number so I can send you the money."

Marco's expression changed in an instant, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Ah, finally! I knew you'd come through, Lilith. Good girl." He punched my cheeks.

I rolled my eyes, annoyed by his dramatics. "Just give me the account number, Marco."

He chuckled and rattled off the number, which I quickly typed into my phone. "Just finish with the rest of your tasks and we'll be okay."

I sent the money and showed him the confirmation on my phone. Marco's grin grew even wider as he saw the transaction go through.

"Awnnn, such a good girl." he said, his voice dripping with insincerity.

I knew I had to get out of there before I said something I might regret. "Just remember, Marco. No more requests. When I get you everything you want, you'll leave Xavier and I alone."

Marco chuckled and waved his hand dismissively. "Oh, don't worry. I won't be needing both of you anymore. Eventually."

I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "See that you do."

"Sure. As long as you cooperate, we have no problem."

My mind raced as I tried to process his words. I've been cooperating so I should have no problem with him.

What if Marco decides to betray me after I hand over everything to him? What i I do all of this in vain? What if I lose Xavier and all of his properties? What am I going to do? How am I going to face Xavier?

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving me shaken and confused. What did he have on me? And what did he want me to do? I knew I had to find out before it was too late.

I trudged upstairs, my mind still reeling from the encounter with Marco. As I entered the bedroom, I saw Xavier getting ready for work. He smiled when he saw me, but his eyes narrowed with concern.

"Hey, everything okay?" he asked, noticing my troubled expression.

I nodded, trying to brush it off. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired."

Xavier came over and wrapped his arms around me. "You sure? You look like you've got a lot on your mind."

I leaned into his embrace, feeling a sense of comfort and security. "Just Marco being his usual self," I replied, trying to downplay the situation.

Xavier's expression turned stern. "What did he do? He's always causing trouble."

I nodded in agreement. "I know. But I can handle him. It's just something trivial." I lied.

Xavier kissed my forehead. "I know you can. But if you need me, I'm here for you. Always. I'll help you deal with him."

He bid me goodbye and headed out the door, leaving me to my thoughts. I watched him go, feeling grateful for his support and love.

As I turned to get ready for the day, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Marco's threats were far from over. But with Xavier by my side, I knew I could face whatever came my way.

I was still lost in thought when Marco suddenly appeared before me, his eyes wild and frantic.

"Where is he?" Marco demanded, his voice low and menacing.

I took a step back, my heart racing. "Who?"

Marco's face twisted in anger. "Xavier. Where is he?"

I swallowed hard, trying to stay calm. "He left for work."

Marco's expression turned red with rage. "NOOOO!" he screamed, his voice echoing through the room.

I flinched, startled by his outburst. "Marco, calm down! What's wrong with you?"

But Marco was beyond reason. He paced back and forth, his eyes blazing with fury.

"I just did something crazy. We are done for Lilith!" he spat. "I thought he was here!"

I shook my head, trying to defend myself. "I didn't lie! He really did leave for work!"

Marco's scream grew louder, more primal. "We are done for! We are really done for! It's over for us"

I backed away, frightened by Marco's intensity. "Marco, stop! Please!"

But he wouldn't listen. He kept screaming, his voice growing hoarse.

I knew I had to find out why he wanted to see Xavier urgently.

Marco's screams finally subsided, and he collapsed to the ground, exhausted. I approached him cautiously, my heart still racing from his outburst.

"Lilith, It's over" Marco whispered, his eyes filled with tears. "It was a mistake I swear. I don't even know how it happened."

I shook my head, still trying to process what was happening. "What are you talking about, Marco?"

Marco took a deep breath and confessed. "I sent proof of you being Avery Mills to Xavier today. It was a mistake. I swear I didn't do it on purpose."

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. "Why would you think that? Do you know the consequences of what you've just done?"

Marco's expression was tormented. "I don't know how it happened honestly. He mustn't see that Lilith. We will be done for."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "You idiot, Marco. It was just a mistake? You sent those pictures to Xavier by accident?"

Marco's eyes widened in horror. "Oh no. What have I done?"
I was furious. "You've ruined everything, Marco. You've hurt me and Xavier for no reason. What am I going to do now? Xavier would throw me out and you'll also face the consequences of your actions."

I couldn't hold back my tears any longer. I started crying and screaming at Marco. "How could you, Marco? How could you do this to me?"

I hit him, my fists hitting against his chest. "You're so stupid, Marco. You've destroyed everything."

Marco just stood there, taking my blows, his eyes filled with tears. "I'm so sorry, Lilith. I didn't know."

I was beyond consolation. I just wanted to hurt him, to make him pay for what he'd done. But eventually, my anger exhausted me, and I collapsed to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. Marco just sat there, holding me, his eyes filled with remorse.

Marco's expression changed from remorse to calculation. "Instead of hitting me, let's go find Xavier and get rid of the evidence."

My eyes widened in disbelief. "You think I'd help you after what you've done? You betrayed me, Marco. After everything I've done for you, you still chose to betray me."

Marco's face twisted in a snarl. "You're just a means to an end, Lilith. I'm using you to get to Xavier. If you go down, I go down that's why I'm helping you now."

I felt a wave of anger wash over me. "You used me? You think I'm that stupid? I know you've been using me all along and that's because I have no choice. Marco."

Marco shrugged. "You are nothing but just a pawn in the game of life, Lilith. And I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win."

I was furious. "You're disgusting, Marco. I can't believe you'll say this after making a stupid mistake."

Marco sneered. "Trust is a weakness, Lilith. And you're too trusting for your own good."

My heart heavy with sorrow and anger. How could Marco do this to me? After everything I'd done for him, he still chose to betray me. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out of me. I couldn't believe the person I thought was my friend was actually my enemy.

"Let's go to the company and get rid of the evidence Lilith. That's the only way out." He suggested.

I rushed into the car, my heart racing with anxiety. Marco got into the driver's seat and started the engine. "Don't worry Lilith, we'll get to the company in no time."

But as we hit the road, I realized that "no time" was an exaggeration. The traffic was terrible, and we were stuck in a sea of brake lights.

"Come on, come on!" Marco muttered, tapping his hands impatiently on the steering wheel.

"Great job, Marco," I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "You've really planned this out well."

Marco glared at me. "Hey, it's not my fault there's traffic!"

"Oh, no, it's just a coincidence that we're stuck in traffic after you betrayed me," I snapped.

Marco's face reddened. "Stop saying it like that, okay? It was a mistake. I can't purposely take myself down like that. Can we just focus on getting to the company?"

"Sorry? You think a simple 'sorry' makes up for what you've done?"

Marco sighed. "Lilith, please. We don't have time for this."

But I was beyond reason. I was furious, and I wanted Marco to know it. "You should have thought of that before you betrayed me!"

As we inched along the highway, my anger only grew. I couldn't believe Marco's audacity. Did he really think I'd forgive him after what he'd done?

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, we arrived at the company. Marco pulled into the parking lot, and I leapt out of the car, my heart racing with anticipation.

"Let's go," I said, my voice cold and detached.

Marco followed me, his eyes fixed on me with a mixture of guilt and determination. I didn't care. I just wanted to get this over with.

I rushed into the reception area, Marco close behind me. "Where's Xavier?" I demanded, my heart racing with urgency.

The receptionist looked up from her desk, a calm expression on her face. "He's in a board meeting, madam. I'm afraid he can't be disturbed."

Marco stepped forward, his eyes fixed on the receptionist. "We need to see him now."

The receptionist shook her head. "I'm afraid that's not possible. The meeting is running long, and Mr Presley can't be interrupted ma'am."

Marco pulled out his phone, his fingers flying across the screen. "I'll just call him then."

But before he could dial, I slapped the phone out of his hand. "No, Marco. Xavier would have a better chance of reading the message if you call."

Marco's eyes narrowed, his face twisted in anger. "What's that supposed to mean?"

I glared at him. "It means that Xavier doesn't need to be disturbed by calls because he'll see your message immediately."

The receptionist watched us, her eyes wide with concern. "Madam, maybe you should calm down and wait for Mr Presley to come out of the meeting."

But I was beyond reason. I was determined to get rid of the evidence. "No, I'm not going to calm down. I'm going to make sure Xavier doesn't get to see the message."

I approached the receptionist's desk, my determination evident on my face. "I need to see Xavier. Can I enter the meeting?"

The receptionist's expression turned sympathetic, but firm. "I'm afraid that's not possible, madam. The meeting is highly confidential, and Mr Presley specifically asked not to be disturbed."

I felt a surge of frustration, but I refused to give up. "Please, it's urgent. I need to speak with him now."

The receptionist shook her head. "I understand, but I'm afraid it's not possible. You'll have to wait until the meeting is over ma'am."

I gritted my teeth, my mind racing with options. I knew I couldn't force my way into the meeting, but I had to find a way to get Xavier's attention. "How much longer will the meeting last?"

The receptionist checked her watch. "About 30 minutes, I think."

I nodded, my mind racing with plans. I would wait, but I would not be silenced. I would make sure Xavier doesn't read the message, no matter what it took.
