Chapter 57

Chapter 57
I stormed out of the reception area, Marco following closely behind me. "We need to check if Xavier's phone is in his office," I said, my mind racing with possibilities.

Marco nodded, his eyes fixed on me. "If we can find his phone, we can delete the evidence."

I pushed open the door to Xavier's office, my heart racing with anticipation. But as we searched the room, my hopes began to sink. Xavier's phone was nowhere to be found.

"No, no, no," I muttered, frustration etched on my face. "Where could it be?"

Marco shook his head. "He must have taken it with him to the meeting."

I slammed my fist on the desk, anger coursing through my veins. "This can't be happening. We have to find that phone."

Marco's expression turned grim. "We'll keep looking, Lilith. But we have to be careful. If Xavier finds out what we're doing..."

I didn't need Marco to finish the sentence. I knew the consequences would be severe. But I was beyond caring. I had to protect myself, no matter what it took.

"Let's keep searching," I said, my voice cold and determined. "We can't give up now."

Just as we were about to give up, Xavier's personal assistant appeared in the doorway. "Ma, Sir, I'm so glad I found you," she said, her expression sympathetic. "I wanted to let you know that the meeting is running longer than expected, but I've informed Mr Presley of your presence."

My heart skipped a beat. "He knows we're here?"

The assistant nodded. "Yes, I've let him know. He'll come out to see you as soon as he can."

I felt a mix of emotions: relief, anxiety, and determination. I was glad Xavier knew we were here, but I was also nervous about what he would say when he saw us.

Marco leaned in close. "What do we do now?" he whispered.

I took a deep breath. "We wait. And when Xavier comes out, we'll be ready."

The assistant nodded. "I'll let him know you're waiting. In the meantime, can I get you anything to drink?"

I shook my head. "No, thank you. We're fine."

As the assistant left, Marco turned to me. "What's the plan, Lilith?"

I straightened my shoulders. "Oh Marco! We'll tell him everything. We'll tell him and beg him to forgive us for deceiving him." I said sarcastically.

Marco's eyes narrowed. "Be serious Lilith. It's not funny."

I met his gaze. "I don't know what to do too Marco. Just leave me alone."

As we waited, a noise echoed from outside the office. At first, it was just a faint rustling, but it grew louder and more persistent. Marco and I exchanged a frustrated glance, but neither of us moved to investigate. We were too caught up in our own thoughts, too consumed by our own worries.

The noise continued, growing more insistent. It sounded like chaos outside. Like people were rushing to another place. I frowned, irritated by the distraction. Couldn't they see we were busy?

But as the noise persisted, my curiosity got the better of me. I stood up, my eyes fixed on the door. "What is that?" I muttered.

Marco shrugged, still seated. "Probably some clients who're not satisfied or something."

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Yes."

But I was already moving towards the door. "I'll go check it out."

As I opened the door, the noise grew louder. I stepped out into the hallway, my eyes scanning the area. That's when I saw it.

I pushed my way through the crowd, my heart racing with anticipation. What was happening? Why was everyone rushing into the hallway?

As I squeezed myself through the throng of people, I saw them. The bodyguards. They were struggling to hold onto someone. Xavier.

My eyes widened as I took in the scene. Xavier was pale, his face drained of color. He was staring at his phone, his eyes fixed on the screen with a mixture of horror and disbelief.

The bodyguards were trying to restrain him, but Xavier was struggling against them. "Let me go!" he shouted, his voice echoing off the walls. "I have to see her!"

I felt a chill run down my spine. What was going on? Why was Xavier so upset?

As I watched, Xavier's eyes flicked up and met mine. For a moment, our gazes locked, and I saw a flash of desperation in his eyes.

Then, the bodyguards managed to wrestle him away, dragging him back into the office. I was left standing there, feeling stunned and confused.

What had just happened? Has Xavier read the message?

"I think he has read it." Marco said.

"See what you've caused. See what you've done." I yelled as I hit his arms in tears.

I rushed to the office, tears streaming down my face as I dialed the doctor's number on my phone. "Please, you have to come quickly!" I sobbed into the phone. "Xavier's had some kind of breakdown!"

As I burst into the office, I saw the bodyguards assembling more men, their faces grim and serious. They were surrounding Xavier, who was still pale and shaken, his eyes fixed on his phone.

"Get the doctor, now!" I screamed at one of the bodyguards, who nodded and quickly pulled out his phone.

I rushed to Xavier's side, my heart racing with fear. "Xavier, oh my god, what's happening?" I cried, trying to shake him out of his trance-like state.

But he just stared at me, his eyes empty and hollow. "Who are you?...I...I don't know what to do. Tell me you're Lilith. Please!" he stammered, his voice shaking.

The doctor arrived quickly, and I breathed a sigh of relief as he took charge of the situation. "We need to get Xavier to a safe place," he said, his voice calm and authoritative. "Now."

As the bodyguards closed in around us, I knew that our lives were about to change forever. The secrets, the lies, the betrayals...it was all coming to a head. And I was scared. So scared.

They quickly surrounded Xavier, asking him questions and checking his vital signs. I watched in a daze as they worked, my mind racing with fear.

"What's happening?" I asked one of the doctors, my voice shaking.

"We need to get him to the hospital," he replied, his voice firm. "Now."

As they rushed Xavier out of the office, I followed close behind, my heart racing with fear. "Xavier, oh my god, what's wrong?" I cried, trying to keep up with the doctors.

But Xavier just kept repeating, "Lilith is gone...Lilith is gone..."

This is all Marco's fault? How am I going to face Xavier now?

As we arrived at the hospital, the doctors rushed Xavier into the emergency room. I waited anxiously outside, my mind racing with questions.

What was happening to Xavier?

I paced back and forth outside the emergency room, my mind racing with worry. Xavier was in there, and I had no idea what was happening to him. I tried to push open the door, but a firm hand stopped me.

"I'm sorry, miss. You can't come in here," a nurse said, her expression sympathetic but firm.

"But Xavier said I should be let in!" I protested, my voice rising in frustration.

The nurse shook her head. "I'm afraid that's not possible. Only authorized personnel are allowed in here."

I felt a surge of anger and helplessness. Why was this happening? Why was I being kept out?

Just then, Marco appeared at my side. "Hey, Lilith. What's going on?" he asked, his eyes concerned.

"Xavier's in there, and they won't let me in!" I exclaimed, my voice trembling with emotion.

Marco nodded and stepped forward. "I'll go check on him," he said, his voice calm and reassuring.

To my surprise, the nurse nodded and let Marco through. I watched in disbelief as he disappeared into the emergency room, leaving me alone and frustrated in the waiting area.

Why was Marco allowed in and not me? It didn't make sense. I felt a pang of jealousy and resentment towards Marco. Why was he getting to be with Xavier while I was stuck out here?

As I waited, my mind raced with worst-case scenarios. What if Xavier was seriously hurt? What if he didn't make it?

The minutes ticked by at a glacial pace, each one feeling like an eternity. I couldn't take it anymore. I needed to know what was happening to Xavier.

I stood up and approached the nurse's station again. "Please, can you tell me anything?" I begged, my voice cracking with emotion.

The nurse looked up at me with a sympathetic expression. "I'm sorry, miss. I'll see what I can find out."

Marco emerged from the emergency room, his face somber and grave. I rushed to his side, my heart racing with anxiety.

"Marco, oh my god, how is he?" I asked, my voice shaking with fear.

Marco's expression was bleak. "Lilith, it's over. His condition has depleted permanently."

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. No, no, no. This can't be happening.

I burst into tears, my body wracked with sobs. "No, no, no! This can't be happening!"

Marco tried to comfort me, but I pushed him away. "Just leave me alone!"

I collapsed to the floor, my tears flooding the tile. I couldn't bear the thought of losing Xavier. He was my everything.

As I wept, I felt Marco's hand on my shoulder. "Lilith, I'm so sorry. I sent that message by mistake."

I shook my head, my body shaking with grief. "You don't understand. You'll never understand."

Marco's hand remained on my shoulder, a gentle reminder that I wasn't alone in my grief. But even his presence couldn't comfort me now.

Xavier's mental health has depleted permanently and there's nothing I could do about it. My heart was shattered into a million pieces.

I cried harder, my body convulsing with sobs. I couldn't imagine a world without Xavier. He was my rock, my confidant, my everything.

As I wept, I knew that my life would never be the same again. I knew he wouldn't be able to recognize me again, and I was left to pick up the pieces of my shattered heart.

Marco's expression changed, and he smiled. "At least your work in the Presley mansion is done," he said, his voice tinged with a hint of satisfaction.

I stared at him, confusion etched on my face. "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice laced with a hint of suspicion.

Marco's smile grew wider. "You know exactly what I mean, Lilith," he said, his eyes glinting with a knowing look.

I shook my head, my mind racing with questions. What did Marco mean? What did my work in the Presley mansion have to do with anything?

Marco turned to leave, but I caught his arm. "Wait, Marco. Tell me what you mean," I demanded, my voice firm.

Marco chuckled. "Oh, Lilith. You'll figure it out soon enough," he said, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

With that, he pulled his arm free and walked away, leaving me standing alone in the hospital corridor, my mind reeling with questions and doubts.

What did Marco mean? What had my work in the Presley mansion accomplished? And why was Marco so smug about it?

I felt a shiver run down my spine as I realized that Marco knew more than he was letting on. And I had a feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't even imagine.

I quickly turned around to catch up with Marco, but he was already gone. I rushed down the hospital corridor, my heart racing with anticipation. I had to know what he meant. I had to know what was going on.

"Marco! Wait!" I called out, but there was no response.

I turned a corner, thinking I saw him, but it was just a nurse. I kept searching, my eyes scanning the crowded hospital, but Marco was nowhere to be found.

I stopped in front of the elevator, hoping he would step out, but the doors opened and closed, revealing a group of strangers.

I was starting to get frustrated. Where had Marco gone? Why had he disappeared like that?

I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. Maybe he just needed some fresh air. Maybe he was in the cafeteria.

I made my way to the cafeteria, scanning the room for Marco's familiar face, but he was nowhere to be found.

As I sat down at an empty table, my mind racing with questions, I realized that Marco was gone. And I had no idea what he meant.

I felt a shiver run down my spine. What had I gotten myself into? What secrets was Marco keeping?

And then, it hit me. The truth. The lies. The betrayals. It was all connected.

But how?

I sat there, my mind reeling, trying to piece together the puzzle. But the more I thought about it, the more confused I became.

And then, the lights went out. The hospital was plunged into darkness.

I was alone. And scared. And had no idea what was coming next.
