Chapter 969 Eating Teddy Snacks
Chapter 969 Eating Teddy Snacks
Susan snapped, "Your dad had it coming!"
Not far behind, two women sat in a white sedan, watching the scene unfold at the entrance.
Molly leaned forward over the steering wheel. "Vera, things are getting interesting."
Vera tore open a pack of her son's snacks and shared them with Molly. Munching away, she said, "Have we been so buried in work lately that we completely lost track of what's going on in Randall's life? Who's that woman?"
Molly was also helping herself to Teddy's snacks, crunching loudly. "No idea. Never seen her before. Let's watch a little longer."
Teddy sat in his mom's lap, staring down at his own snack stick — his aunt had taken one, his mom had taken one, and his little hands were left with nothing.
The two friends had decided on a whim to drop by and see Randall, hoping to keep their somewhat unreliable friendship alive. Molly was driving, and they had barely pulled up downstairs when they stumbled right into the drama playing out at the entrance.
They watched from the car for five minutes until the snacks ran out.
So they opened the doors, got out, and moved closer for a better view.
Spotting the dynamic duo plus one human Teddy, Randall looked surprised but seemed to have already guessed what was about to happen.
Susan ran happily toward them. "Auntie! Sis!"
"Don't mind us — carry on," Molly said. "The view from the car wasn't great. We just moved in for a closer look." Her eyes landed on the unfamiliar woman.
Jenny looked at the two of them, then at the woman holding the baby. That was Mr. Olteran's son — so the woman with the baby must be... Mrs. Olteran?
Jenny immediately turned to Vera, tears in her eyes. "Mrs. Olteran, please, help my dad. He knows he was wrong."
Vera was genuinely surprised — was she really that well-known? Even this woman recognized her as Mrs. Olteran.
"Hey, don't cry — you look so pitiful. Tell me, what happened to your dad?"
Susan rushed over anxiously. "Don't listen to her nonsense!"
Jenny sobbed through her version of her father's "innocence." Susan frantically jumped in to explain how she had nearly been taken advantage of by Erik, and how Randall had been treated unfairly at the company. "Because of her dad, no company will hire Randall to this day."
Randall, for his part, looked completely unbothered.
Molly listened, then let out a long, drawn-out "Oh. I see."
Jenny turned to Susan. "I'm sorry. That night, my dad had too much to drink and acted out of line. He bumped into you by accident. I'm apologizing on his behalf."
Molly suddenly spoke up with exaggerated kindness. "Shouldn't a proper apology come with a bow? Otherwise, how sincere is it?"
Vera glanced at her best friend and added, "A bow without a nod doesn't really show much sincerity, does it?"
Susan blinked. Wait, what??
Jenny looked at Susan — they wanted her to bow and apologize?
Randall sat off to the side, relaxed, tapping out a message on his phone.
"If I bow and apologize, does that mean my dad won't go to jail?" Jenny asked Susan, her eyes red.
Susan looked completely lost — she hadn't asked for any apology. She quietly shuffled over to stand beside Molly.
Molly, visibly pregnant, spoke up. "Are you having trouble understanding plain English, or do you just not follow basic logic? An apology means your dad did something wrong, and you're here to acknowledge that and express remorse. It doesn't mean that if you bow, my Susan will forgive him.
And even if Susan does forgive him, your dad broke the law. He needs to answer to the law — not to Susan. Do you understand how that works?"
Jenny looked at Molly. "Who are you?"
Molly answered with pride. "The Olteran family. You're welcome."
Susan burst out indignantly. "Auntie! I told her my uncle is a cop, and she had the nerve to say her dad could make one phone call and get my uncle kicked off the force!"
Someone dared to go after her Sebastian?! Molly's anger ignited instantly. She pointed straight at Jenny. "What's your name again?"
"Her name's Jenny!" Susan answered immediately.
Molly stepped forward, eyes fixed on the woman who was now visibly scared. "Who's backing your dad? Who's so powerful they think they can just fire the head of the financial crimes unit? And who do you think you are, looking down on Sebastian? You've got some nerve. What's the company? What's your dad's name? Who's his backer? I'm having my husband look into this right now. I refuse to believe there's no way to put your dad behind bars."
Jenny scrambled to apologize. "S-sorry, I didn't know he was the head of financial crimes, I didn't—"
"It wouldn't matter if he were a regular officer. What gives your dad the right to interfere with law enforcement? I'm going to dig until I find something on him." Molly pulled out her phone and called Sebastian. "Hey, honey, I need to report something."
There it was — "honey," a word he hadn't heard in a while. Sebastian closed the file on his desk, a fond smile spreading across his face. "Who got on your nerves?"
Jenny grabbed Molly's arm in a panic, shaking it. "I'm sorry, Molly, I was wrong!"
Susan reached out to shield her pregnant aunt and shoved Jenny's hand away. "Are you blind?!" she snapped. "Can't you see she's pregnant? Stop grabbing her like that!"
Randall walked over and offered Jenny a calm word of advice. "You should go. Don't push the one holding the baby. At that point, it won't be your dad facing jail time — it'll be you heading to the ICU."
Vera smiled pleasantly. "Three minutes. If you're still here, I really will step in."
Then her expression dropped completely. "Randall, start the countdown."
In the end, Susan pushed Jenny away, arms spread wide to keep her from getting anywhere near her pregnant aunt.
Right then, Otto came rushing over. He jumped out of his car, bowed apologetically to Randall and the others, grabbed Jenny, and physically dragged the difficult woman back into the car.
Only once all four of them were in the elevator did Susan finally lower her arms with a sigh of relief. "They had this coming. Every bit of it."
With her complaint officially filed, Molly turned to Randall. "So I just heard — you quit your job?"
Vera shot her friend a sideways glance. "When did that happen?"
They headed up to the rental apartment.
The baby was placed on the bed. The two friends took over Randall and Susan's chairs without a second thought, leaving the couple to sit on the edge of the bed and explain everything one thing at a time.
"What I'm really curious about," Vera said, cutting straight to the point, "is how Jenny saw my son and immediately knew who I was."
Susan licked her lips. "Well... because the baby had been to Randall's workplace before."
"What? I've never even been there. When did he go?"
Susan quietly explained what had happened the day his uncle showed up.
Everything clicked for Vera. The pieces she hadn't been able to connect before all fell into place. "That explains it."
"You two are such a handful," Randall said, leaning against the headboard with Teddy in his arms. "You couldn't even give us a heads-up before showing up?"
