Chapter 970 Sad Teddy

Chapter 970 Sad Teddy

Vera gave her official answer: "Relationships need communication."

Randall glanced at the sunset outside the window and couldn't help but say: "That's weird, the sun's still rising in the east and setting in the west as usual."

Vera heard that and immediately grabbed a book off the table and hurled it at Randall. Randall instantly held up chubby little Teddy as a shield: "Vera, I'm warning you, I'm holding your son! If you hit me, your kid's going down first!"

Teddy just kept kicking his little legs happily, giggling away.

Susan sat to the side, fingers twisting the edge of the blanket, staring longingly at the baby, her hands itching to hold him but not daring to.

She finally got up, shuffled over to Randall, and in one swift move, snatched Teddy right out of Randall's arms: "Sis, feel free to throw things now!" Susan called out cheerfully.

Before Randall even realized what happened, several more books came flying at her.

Susan held Teddy and burst out laughing.

Randall pointed at her own girlfriend: "Susan!"

Susan happily wedged herself between them: "I'm coming home with you guys later!" Better get out while she could.

Randall admitted defeat — she'd chosen this girlfriend herself, couldn't blame anyone else.

Back at Randall's apartment, the two sisters asked about her plans: "Your family doesn't know you quit yet. Do you need to tell them?"

Randall shook her head: "No need. I only told my dad, just to put his mind at ease. The exam's coming up soon, so I'm planning to focus entirely on studying. Once I pass, I'll start looking for a new job." First things first — the grad school entrance exam.

Vera nodded: "When does your lease run out?"

She hadn't forgotten that Randall's monthly rent was a big expense.

"I paid six months upfront, plus one month's deposit." Rent wasn't a problem.

The two of them relaxed.

Vera spotted Randall's study materials and picked them up: "Randall, I'm taking these."

Randall: "I put that together for you anyway. Saves me the trip of dropping it off — take it."

Vera folded them up and put them in her bag: "I'm the one taking the exam, but it feels like the whole family is taking it with me." Her husband helped pick the school, her brother tracked down materials, her father helped with the baby, and her nephew prepared news summaries for her. Even little Teddy would lie beside her while she studied to "cheer her on."

Though every time, Teddy would end up being hauled away by his dad for "a good spanking" on the grounds that he was making too much noise and disturbing his mom. The padded jacket her brother bought him was useless as protection — it was a split-pants style, and his dad would yank off the diaper before spanking him. In the end, Teddy was always the one wailing his heart out.

After about half an hour at Randall's place, Teddy suddenly got fussy and grabbed onto Vera's clothes, demanding to be held. Vera picked him up, and he immediately started crying and gnawing at her.

Vera guessed: "Teddy's probably hungry. We didn't bring formula today — let's dig out some snacks to keep his little mouth busy."

She opened Teddy's bag. It was completely empty — the snacks were gone.

Vera and Molly looked at each other. Molly asked: "Vera, what exactly were we eating just now?"

Vera: "...Randall, we're heading out."

Susan was about to follow them out, but just as she stepped into the elevator, Randall grabbed her and pulled her back: "You're staying."

The elevator doors closed, and the two sisters headed down. Susan was wrapped in her boyfriend's arm around her neck, one tall and one short, face to face.

Susan blinked innocently. Randall's eyes stayed fixed on the girlfriend who had just thrown her under the bus: "Let's go. We need to have a little 'chat.'"

Susan whined: "Randall, I wanna go home."

In the car, Teddy wailed loudly, clutching the empty snack box, growing more and more heartbroken the longer he stared at it.

Vera held him guiltily and called her husband: "Hey, honey, where are you?"

Patrick: "Still at the office, about to head out." Hearing his son sobbing on the other end of the line, he asked, "What happened to him now?"

"Well, basically... his snacks are gone, and he's hungry, and there's nothing to eat, so he's crying."

Patrick heard the guilt in his wife's voice and immediately figured out where the snacks had "gone": "Should I come to you, or are you coming to me?"

Ten minutes later, outside the Olteran Group building, Patrick caught his tear-soaked son.

He wiped the little face with his big hand and said fondly: "You're already one year old, and you cry over every little thing — still acting like a newborn."

Patrick always kept the essentials in his car — formula, snacks, diapers, and a change of clothes.

With Dad around, the little tummy was finally taken care of.

Molly dropped the two of them off with Patrick but didn't get out of the car — too cold. She just rolled down the window: "Patrick, I've delivered your people. I'm off to pick up mine now."

Patrick said: "Drive carefully, take it slow."

"Don't worry, bye Patrick." Molly waved and hit the gas, driving with one hand.

Patrick shouted after her: "Two hands!"

Molly immediately straightened up and gripped the steering wheel with both hands.

Patrick watched her car until it disappeared from sight, then turned and got his wife and son into the car, and the family of three headed home.

Molly pulled up to the familiar gate. She hadn't been to the police station much since getting pregnant.

After months away, her sudden appearance — and her very visible baby bump — left everyone stunned: "Oh my god, Molly, I can hardly believe it."

In everyone's minds, Molly was still like a little sister — immature, innocent, never quite grown up. Even knowing she was pregnant, since no one had actually seen her, it still felt like she was the same unmarried young girl. Seeing her now with that bump was a real shock.

"Makayla, you're still here?" Molly hopped out of the car and linked arms with the forensic examiner like old times.

The examiner looked at Molly's familiar gesture and felt like she was back to being that little troublemaker who used to annoy Patrick and get handed off to her to deal with.

Team leader Ernest came back with his crew from a call and spotted Molly too: "Hey, look who it is!"

A crowd gathered around Molly, full of curiosity.

"Molly, what brings you by today? We were just talking about you this morning — it's been so long, we've missed you."

Molly answered: "Picking Sebastian up from work."

The team's favorite person got pulled over to Ernest's group, and everyone fussed over her, asking all about the pregnancy.

Sebastian came out to find his car waiting for him, but no sign of the person who was supposed to be waiting.

He went to the security booth: "Have you seen Molly?"

"Sebastian, can you cover the gate for me? I'm going next door to see Molly too."

He was speechless.

The guard dumped the job on Sebastian and hurried off to the next courtyard: "Molly, is it a boy or a girl?"

Molly had become the whole team's darling. If her family hadn't called to say dinner was getting cold, she could have stayed there chatting for another two hours.
