Chapter 549: Even the Twin Sister is Not Spared
Alaric caught her expression, a flicker of surprise crossing his mind. "You know me."
His tone was serious and certain, his deep eyes staring straight at Odette.
Odette was startled by his gaze, her eyes darting away. "I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know you."
Alaric suddenly laughed out loud. "Do you think you're good at pretending, or do you think I'm blind?"
Over the years, he'd seen all kinds of people. While he couldn't claim to see through everyone's heart, he could still tell when someone was lying.
Odette lowered her eyes, not knowing what to say.
She knew that whatever she said right now would be wrong, so it was better to say nothing at all.
Alaric didn't push further. Instead, he poured himself a glass of water and held it out to her. "Want some?"
After all, the woman in front of him was his son's biological mother. Though he hadn't figured out what exactly happened back then, he wouldn't take it out on her.
Odette was surprised by this gesture and took the glass.
She carefully lifted her eyelids, stealing glances at Alaric from the corner of her eye.
Although she had once had sex with Alaric, she didn't really know him.
She only knew that Alaric came from an impressive family background and was an excellent person. Otherwise, Sabrina wouldn't have hung up on him for so many years.
But she had never hoped for anything.
During those years of captivity, even though she heard Sabrina talk about how great Alaric was every single day, she knew her place. She knew some people were beyond her reach.
Her only regret was the child she'd carried for ten months, whom she only got to see once, and then lost forever.
That child had kept her company for a full ten months during her most desperate and helpless time.
But back then, she could not protect that child.
She could barely protect herself.
Sabrina said the child was dead. When she first heard the news, she cried her heart out, wanting nothing more than to die with the child.
But Sabrina used every means possible to revive her.
Sabrina didn't want her to die. Sabrina wanted her to live, to suffer all kinds of torture.
Alaric didn't stay at the hospital for long. He had important business with Benjamin.
When Odette fell asleep again, Alaric got up and left the room.
Before leaving, he specifically told the doctors and nurses to call him immediately if anything happened.
Half an hour later, he arrived at the White Group branch office.
When he arrived, Sophia was also there.
"Alaric, Chase said you arrived last night. Why didn't you stay at my place?"
Alaric smiled and explained, "It was too late last night, so I just found a hotel to stay in. On the way, I happened to save someone."
Sophia became even more curious. "Who? A man or a woman?"
Alaric laughed helplessly. "You're such a gossip."
Sophia playfully stuck out her tongue. "You're not getting any younger. You should have someone close by your side."
"You should worry about Benjamin and the baby in your belly. Grandpa doesn't even bother with me anymore."
Ever since learning that Emilio was the White family's bloodline, Preston had stopped pressuring Alaric about marriage.
Because every time Preston brought it up, Alaric would use Emilio as a shield.
After a while, Preston gave up and stopped bothering Alaric about it.
Both Sophia and Benjamin couldn't help but laugh.
Benjamin cleared his throat and asked him, "Are you here on business this time?"
"Sort of. There's a party in a few days, and I want you to come with me." Alaric replied.
This trip had brought an unexpected gain.
He'd actually stumbled upon Emilio's biological mother by chance.
Alaric handed the paternity test report to Sophia and Benjamin, then told them about rescuing Odette last night.
"It's strange when you think about it. I ran into both of them on the same night."
"The woman I know is called Sabrina, so the one you rescued must be Odette, the real Odette."
"Odette? Why does that name sound so familiar?" Sophia frowned slightly.
Benjamin glanced at her and nodded slowly. "It's exactly who you're thinking of."
Then Benjamin explained Sabrina's situation.
He had seen Sabrina at the GeneCipher Society back then. Sabrina's identity was definitely not that simple.
Sophia asked in confusion, "If her name is Sabrina, why would she appear at Harmony Hospital using Odette's identity?"
Benjamin thought for a moment. "Probably because the GeneCipher Society was destroyed, and Sabrina happened to be on the police's wanted list."
To avoid police tracking, changing names was perfectly normal.
Just then, someone knocked on the office door.
Chase walked in from outside, holding a stack of documents.
"Mr. Benjamin White, Mrs. White, Mr. Alaric White, we've finished investigating Odette's background."
As he spoke, he handed them the prepared materials.
They opened them at the same time. The more they read, the more shocked they became.
Alaric angrily slammed the file on the desk. "How can there be such an evil woman in this world? She wouldn't even spare her own twin sister."
Sophia and Benjamin's expressions were equally grave.
They hadn't expected Sabrina to be so vicious.
