Chapter 162 New House
"Amelia, shut your mouth!"
Though Tobias was getting on in years, his voice boomed like thunder. His angry roar startled Amelia.
She nervously turned around to see Tobias rushing over with his cane, his usually stern face now filled with rage.
"Dad, why did you come downstairs? Why aren't you resting upstairs?"
Tobias was in poor health and rarely moved around much.
She'd been home for several days and only saw him at mealtimes.
Tobias snorted coldly, his cane tapping against the floor with dull thuds.
"Rest? With you making such a scene downstairs, how can I rest?"
Amelia froze for a moment, her eyes guiltily darting away. "Dad, I didn't mean to. By the way Dad, have you contacted Benjamin or not? I want to go back to the White Manor!"
She didn't want to stay here any longer.
Living here was nowhere near as comfortable as the White Manor.
Tobias laughed coldly and walked over to sit on the sofa, leaning on his cane. "You still want to go back to the White Manor? Don't you know what you've done? Do you think Benjamin would let you go back after sending you here?"
Tobias shook his head helplessly, looking at Amelia with disappointment in his eyes.
Looking at the veins bulging on Tobias's face from rage, Amelia suddenly started to panic.
She'd been afraid of Tobias since childhood. When Tobias got strict, he didn't care whether you were his daughter or son.
The last time Amelia defied Tobias, she was nearly kicked out of the Martinez family.
Remembering that scene, Amelia suddenly felt terrified.
She clenched her fists, trying to appear calm on the surface, but her heart was already in turmoil.
"Dad, she's just a servant. Is it really worth yelling at your own daughter over someone unimportant?" Amelia softened her tone, her delicate face showing some grievance and pitifulness.
Amelia rarely showed weakness to anyone, but she had no choice when it came to Tobias.
She wasn't stupid—she knew what was best for herself. She just hadn't bothered to do it before.
Looking at that face so similar to his late wife's, Tobias immediately deflated, feeling a sense of helplessness. "Fine, just don't do this again. Servants are people too, not tools for you to beat and scold whenever you're upset."
With that, Tobias sighed heavily and went back upstairs with his cane.
Watching his departing figure, Amelia pouted with grievance, then immediately threw that warning to the back of her mind.
The next day at noon, Benjamin canceled all his appointments and told Chase to drive to Maple Grove Villas.
This time, Matthew didn't stop him, and Benjamin successfully brought Sophia home.
Once in the car, Benjamin kept holding Sophia's hand, refusing to let go, his eyes constantly glancing in her direction.
At first, Sophia didn't pay much attention to it, but Benjamin kept repeating this action over and over.
He never got tired of it and seemed to enjoy it.
Sophia gave up and slowly turned her head, asking in confusion, "What's wrong? Is there something on my face?"
Benjamin shook his head slightly, his usually expressionless face showing some awkwardness. "No. I'm just really happy. Sophia, you're finally back. Let's never be apart again, okay?"
"Okay." Sophia nodded with a smile and held out her pinky finger. "Let's pinky promise."
Looking at Sophia's fair, slightly pink pinky finger, Benjamin froze for a moment, then extended his own finger.
"Pinky promise. Whoever breaks the promise is a little pig."
Benjamin laughed. "Are you calling me names?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." Sophia blinked her innocent eyes, looking confused.
But Benjamin could see the mischief hidden in her eyes.
Whatever.
The woman he married.
What else could he do?
Just keep spoiling her.
Benjamin's main residence was located in the very center of Maple Grove Villas.
Matthew's villa was on the far west side.
The two villas weren't far apart, but there had been almost no interaction between them before.
If it weren't for Sophia, Benjamin probably would never have gone there in his lifetime.
Soon, the car stopped in front of a villa.
"We're here, get out."
Sophia turned to look out the car window and saw it was the same villa Benjamin had brought her to when they got married.
The interior decoration style was indeed simple and straightforward.
Simply put, there was almost no sign of life, showing how monotonous Benjamin's life had been before meeting Sophia.
Benjamin grabbed Sophia's wrist and led her straight upstairs. "I have a surprise for you. Close your eyes first."
Curiosity flashed in Sophia's eyes, and she obediently closed them. "What surprise?"
Benjamin followed behind Sophia, gently covering her eyes with his warm palm, leading her step by step into the master bedroom.
With her vision temporarily blocked, her other senses became more acute.
As the footsteps continued, Sophia's heart rose with anticipation.
Then, Benjamin's cool, restrained voice came from behind her. "Alright, you can open them now."
He slowly removed his hand from Sophia's eyes. Her eyes were slightly downcast, full of expectation.
Sophia opened her eyes to see the entire bedroom had been redecorated.
The originally simple room now had many girly decorations added. The sofa had been replaced with a new one that looked more spacious and felt softer and more comfortable.
The bedding was changed to white, the bedside lamp had a Hello Kitty pattern, and there was a new wardrobe added.
Without thinking, she knew it was prepared for her.
Looking at the completely refreshed bedroom, Sophia suddenly felt an inexplicable wave of emotion, her heart feeling sour.
"Honey? Did you prepare all this?"
"Yes, this is our new room. Do you like it? Chase said the previous room style was too cold and lacked a lived-in feeling, not suitable for girls."
He had specifically asked an interior designer and looked at many decoration styles that girls liked most, finally choosing what he thought looked good from among them.
Benjamin slowly curved his lips into a slight smile, pulling Sophia into the bedroom.
Under her feet was a soft carpet that felt so comfortable it was like walking on clouds.
Sophia was immediately pleasantly surprised, letting Benjamin lead her forward.
When she came to her senses, she found herself already on the balcony.
The balcony had also been completely refreshed.
A protective railing had been added outside the window. On the balcony sat a white wicker swing chair and a small round table where she could read or sunbathe.
An image suddenly flashed through Sophia's mind of being on the balcony with Benjamin, sipping wine while sunbathing together.
It would be absolutely perfect.
