Chapter 121
Chapter 121
Isadora pov
I sat on the couch all curled up with wrinkled used tissue papers scattered around me and a waste bin filled up the brim with used tissue paper. Oliver came along with a glass of water, “Here…” he handed it to me and sat very close to me.
“Thanks.” I sniffled as I took a seat. Oliver wrapped his hands over my shoulders and started, “I’m sorry.”
“Oliver, I need a break, I can’t … I can’t do this.”
“You can’t do what?”
“I can’t.”
“Isadora …” Oliver exhaled softly and nervously but on his finger tips, “I flipped, I got angry and —“
“And I’m overwhelmed.” I interrupted him and gently placed the glass against the center table. “I don’t want to talk, I just want to take a break and rest and just not talk about everything I’m going through because my life isn’t going great at all.”
“Yeah, I know. Isadora …” he called out and grabbed my hands, “I shouldn’t have let this come this far, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault that you had this outburst, I should have taken care of you and —“
“Why did you go to meet Charles?”
“Charles? Montclair?”
“Do we know any other Charles?” I asked rhetorically.
“I… we talked about business.”
“What business?”
“Isadora … it’s a long story, it’s not something I can start explaining to you right now, plus I just really think we should focus on you right now, we need to get you up in the shower and then in bed so tomorrow we can actually follow up on our wedding preparation.”
“Oliver, now you’re just digressing.” With an expressionless look on my face, I noticed how Oliver seemed like he was a book holding secrets, “What are you hiding?”
“Hiding?” He chuckled really uncomfortably and at some point he was unable to maintain eye contact.
“If you’re not going to tell me why you went to meet with Charles, I’m talking about the real reason why you went to meet with Charles then I’ll have no other option than to speak with him myself.”
“N-no no don’t do that. Isadora, I’m not sure why you find it hard to trust me.”I stared at him and then narrowed my eyes at him, okay maybe he did have a point and I should probably just accept it since I no longer had the energy to start digging things up. While I sat there, I started to recall everything Charles said to me when I was seated in his office.
I still was unable to interpret what that was all about but from the little I could understand, he didn’t want me to get married to Oliver. Right from time, Oliver and Charles have had some sort of truce, a silent war, jealousy and envy for each other which had always put me in a position to choose.
Neither of them were saints, they had both wronged me in some way and for some reason I didn’t have the luxury to choose. Daddy wanted Oliver to be his grandson, there was no way daddy would let me bring Charles back to the house and even in my right senses I could no longer trust Charles.
“— Isadora?”
“Huh?!” Oliver’s pat on my back brought me back to the reality of my life.“Did you hear any of the things I told you just now?”
“Yeah… I did.”
“Then come on let’s go, I’ll help you up.” Oliver got up and then grabbed me by my arm, “Oliver wait …” I stopped him.
“Yeah?” “I— I want to talk to you about something.” I spat, I didn’t even think twice before saying that. Oliver had a worried look on his face as he slowly sat down and leaned in closer, “Daddy said, whenever we have misunderstandings, it is advisable for us to settle our differences by ourselves since we’re together. You mentioned that too, there should be no external persons aside from us involved.”
“Yeah? I said that, I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
“I’m saying, what I want to discuss now, should be between us and no other persons involved.”
“What are you saying?” He curled his brows at me and sat up straight. “I’m saying I want us to go on a break.”
“What?!”
“I want us to —“
“I heard you correctly. Why?! Isadora why? We’re literally getting married in a matter of weeks.”
“We’ll call it off, that isn’t the problem.”
“Isadora, then what is? Tell me why you want us to go on a break especially at a time like this.”
“Oliver, don’t you see? Does this really feel like we’re going to be a happily married couple if we do get married?”
“Is that the problem? Isadora going on a break cannot help us, it can’t help this relationship of ours. When we have differences we’re supposed to settle them and not run away from them.”
“I know. But I just think I really need a break from all this, It’s just too much especially with everything going on.”
“Isadora, please, you have to fight. You’re only making this decision because you’re overwhelmed and when you’re like this you can’t make the right decisions—“
“I’m in the right state of mind, and this is what I want.”
“Isadora… please, come on, we should go upstairs so you can get some sleep.” Oliver got up and tried to pull me up but before he could grab a hold of my hand, I already pulled away. I felt this was what I needed to do first of all, it was all part of tackling all my challenges, “I’m sure this is what’s best for me.” I said to him and got up while he stood there speechless, I took the stairs and disappeared into my room.
