Chapter 122
Chapter 122
Isadora pov
Hours later, daddy returned from the office and all three of us were seated at the dining table and having dinner and it was silent and awkward at the same time.
From time to time, I would steal glances at daddy and Oliver and at the same time, I would feel Oliver’s gaze on me once after every full spoon.
“So … how was work daddy?” I asked.
“Work was amazing, I hope you’re okay, you had a weird outburst today.”
“Yeah, I was just feeling a little bit overwhelmed but I’m fine now,a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulder.” I said to daddy and raised my gaze from my plate straight to Oliver’s face.
Oliver had his tongue sticking out of his mouth while his brows were curled. He seemed really agitated by my response but honestly, I couldn’t care any less especially because I wanted to put myself first this time around.
Daddy turned to Oliver who exhaled sharply and then turned to me, “What’s this awkward silence between you two?” Daddy asked but before I could say anything else, Oliver interrupted.
“Isadora is seeking a break.” He blurted.
“What?” Daddy yelled.
“Oh my goodness!” I muttered under my breath and dropped my spoon, resting my head weight on my hand and bracing myself for what daddy was going to say next.
“Isadora, is this true?!”
“I thought what happens between us, stays between us, what ever happened to that?!” I narrowed my eyes on Oliver.
“Isadora, explain to me what’s going on.” Daddy didn’t sound happy at all.
“daddy—”
“How do you liken your marriage … your relationship to a heavy weight on your shoulder, Isadora?” Daddy flashed his eyes at me.
“Daddy, I’m just overwhelmed. There’s a lot going on and I … I just can’t” I brushed my hands through my face and let out a deep sigh of exhaustion.
“So what about your wedding ceremony?”
“Daddy, that’s on hold—“
“No such thing will happen! At least not under my watch.”
“Daddy!”
“Oliver, what— how did you even let this happen?”
“I tried to talk to her—“
“Is nobody listening to me?!” I interrupted Oliver. “Daddy, I can’t do this, I can’t go on with this. I’m not sure why you two think you can just have control of my life and ignore my feelings, it’s my life !” I yelled at them both and sprang off my seat.
“Isadora… you will sit down this instant because we are not done with this conversation.” Daddy yelled at me.
“I don’t want to do the wedding, I just need time to myself, time to figure all this out, daddy please!” I sparked right back at him.The room was heated with tension while my heart raced in my chest, I felt my palms grow sweaty and my entire body was shaking while Oliver got up and tried to grab a hold of my hand, “Oliver, don’t fucking touch me.” I whispered to his hearing.
“Language, Isadora. Now sit down!” Daddy said to me with a straight face, “Where has your respect for me gone, Issa? Right now I’m not speaking to you as your father, rather as your boss and that is an order.”
I turned to daddy in shock, astound at the fact that he didn’t even take a second to hear me out. I slowly sat down and buried my face in my plate while Oliver returned to his seat.
“I tried to —“ Oliver tried to say something but daddy shut him down immediately, “Let… let Isa speak.” They both turned to me waiting to hear me say something.
“Daddy, there’s a lot going on and I need space, I never said the wedding was called off or the … the relationship, all I’m asking for is a break and I just need time to myself! Don’t you two get it?! I need time to myself, I need time to think, to process. There’s a whole lot going on in my life right now and coupled with the wedding prep and …”
“Our relationship huh?” Oliver interrupted with a smug look.
“Oliver!” Daddy called out to him.
“… with the wedding and everything it’s just too much, daddy the pressure.”
Daddy let out a sigh of exhaustion, “Isadora, is this because you don’t want to work with Rowan?”
“Daddy it’s not just Rowan!”
“You mentioned the wedding, your relationship, I’m pretty sure the company could possibly be the other reason so what else? All these I’ve mentioned can be taken care of. If you’d rather have me fire Rowan then I’ll do just that just so this relationship can work out—”
“Daddy this isn’t about Rowan!” I whined.
“Issa, why can’t you just tell us what the problem is so we’ll know where to start?!” Oliver raised his voice slightly.
"Oh my … !! Daddy—“ I stopped talking and exhaled sharply, holding in tears that were about to burst out through my eyeballs. It felt like I had a necklace made with thorns on my neck.
There was no way I was going to tell them the only reason I was trying to call this off was because of the conversation I had with Charles who made me realize I wasn’t ready for this and if I dared to go ahead with this, there’s a chance that I would regret it for the rest of my life and I would never want to venture into something I would regret … forever—
“Isadora.”Daddy called out to me and I turned to both of them who were waiting for a response from me.
“Is there something you’re not telling me?” Daddy asked,“Is this about Charles?” Oliver asked and sharply I turned to me, shocked that he even mentioned his name.
“Charles?! Charles Montclair?” Daddy probed, his eyes widened in shock.“You went to see him … what did he tell you?” Daddy asked.
“I —”
“Really, Isadora?! After everything!” Daddy yelled, while I sat there, my tongue tied and unsure of what to say.
