Chapter 117
Chapter 117
Charles pov
After a moment after Isadora left, I heard a knock on the door, “come in!” I yelled from my seats and after a second or two, the door was pushed open revealing a familiar face, “Oliver Alan Lanchester.” I called out to him and he shot a smile at me.
I got up from my seat as he approached my desk.“It is nice to meet you in a cordial note.” He said to me as he stretched his arm out and we gave each other a handshake.
“Yeah, you’re welcome here. Although I would not call this a cordial meeting, more like an unplanned meet up, you didn’t make an appointment and this wasn’t scheduled.”
“You run a very strict program here.” Oliver responded to me with a smirk on his face.
“Yeah, clearly I do. How do you think I’ve come this far.” I muttered to him, holding in the irritation I felt by his presence. I wasn’t sure that I thought this through, I reached out to Isadora, seeking that we have a conversation with hoping that I could seek closure but for some reason, she just had so much attitude to dish out and that was such a failed attempt but initially I received a call from Oliver asking for a simple “talk” according to him.
I wasn’t even sure how he was able to contact me before even reaching alone but he kept pleading, annoyingly “This is perfect timing.” I said to him as I watched him arrange some documents on his desk clearing the area.
“Perfect timing for what exactly?”
“I just saw my wife in your parking lot.”
“Oh … well that’s good for you.” I said to him wearing an expressionless look on my face like a mask and giving no reaction to anything he said to show him I had no interest in having him in here.
“Why did she come to see you?”
“Excuse me?” That expressionless look subconsciously formed a look of confusion and frown at that very dumb question I was just asked.
“Why was Isadora here?”
“Why was— Didn’t she tell you what she came in here to do when you met her outside?”
“… she’s my fiancée—“
“Yeah that’s the more reason why I thought you two would have had that conversation or is that why you pleaded to come see me here?”
He let out a really uncomfortable chuckle, “No, I’m just wondering what my fiance came to do here.”
“I don’t care about what you’re wondering…” I shook my head, “Matter of fact, I just don’t care about whatever you think, Mr, Oliver. Incase you may have forgotten, we have history … bad history Oliver and you know I don’t like anything about you, at all … maybe asides the fact that you’re really good at hiding things and keeping secrets that’s the only thing you’re good for.”
Oliver stared at me like a confused little child, “Can we move on?! I don’t have time and there are really important things I have to attend to.”
He cleared his throat and sat up straight, “We’re both grown men who have equal respect for each other—“
“You should correct yourself, by we I think you meant yourself because incase you didn’t know, I don’t have any respect for you, not even an ounce of it, Mr Oliver.”
I watched as he folded his hand against his heaving chest, “Mr Montclair.” He called out, “I came here in peace, I didn’t come here to fight you.”
“You’ve been here for quite a while, yet you haven’t said anything on the reason why you’re here.”
“With all due respect, we are both grown men, I’m offended by you talking to me in such tone. Isadora is my wife to be, I strongly believe I have every right to know her whereabouts and who she’s meeting with, and why she’s meeting them. I just want to sound it as a warning to you, she’s no longer under you in whatever way, she is my superior!” He pointed to his chest.
“You better not be sleeping with my wife!” he said through his gritted teeth.Just like earlier that day, my facial expression morphed back to ‘expressionless’ I leaned forward and whispered to him, “Read my lips, I don’t care!”
I watched him angrily curl his hand into a ball of fist, there was literally nothing he could do clearly unless he wanted to taste my wrath once more.He glared at me, his left eye twitching before he exhaled sharply, “Look, I just came here because I need your help. That’s all.”
“Yeah, that’s pretty much obvious, there’s nothing else that could possibly bring you here.”
“Okay, look… I know you and Isadora had some type of relationship in the past, I … I just came here because I wanted …. I need your help.”
“I don’t understand what you’re asking me.” I stole a glance at my wristwatch.“I love Isadora very much and I don't want to lose her. We’re both getting married in a matter of days and Isadora has been acting really really strange lately and I’m not sure why but I think it has something to do with how she feels about the wedding.”
“Okay?! And?!”
“You two had a good relationship, she always seemed so distracted and I just … I don’t want to believe it has something to do with you but I don’t have any proof of that and she’s not willing to talk but now my suspicions are starting to seem true especially since I just saw her step out of here! She came to meet you here discreetly. Something doesn’t seem right.”
I tried to process everything he just said and there was a possibility that Isadora’s petty attitude probably had something to do with how she felt about the wedding. Maybe truly things are not going as smoothly as they both put out there.
