Chapter 110

Charles pov

“Is the designer here yet?” I said to Sloane who was too busy running up and down making sure everything was under control.

“Not yet sir.” She unlocked her iPad, scrolled one page over and stole a glance at her wristwatch, “Sir, she’ll be here any minute now—”

“Excuse me? Sloane?” A lady in glasses holding a brief case with a couple other people in uniform who escorted her in interrupted Sloane. Sloane turned around in shock and immediately raised her brows at her, then she turned to me, “Don’t worry sir, she’s here now.” She shot a smile at me.

“Goodday, sir, “ the woman approached me. She seemed to be around her late fifties. She had tints of grey hair on her hair and slightly wrinkly skin. She stretched her hand out and she held it softly, “I’m Megan Diliurentis, and I will be designing your suit for your celebration party according to Miss Sloane who I suppose is your assistant.”

“Well then, let’s just get into it quickly, I really don’t have time.” I said to her, rubbing my hand through my head and hoping I wouldn’t miss my own party. The suit was supposed to be extra special and not something I would just pick out at a store, it was supposed to be stitched and sewn on me.

I stood on the platform provided while the rest of her team did what they were supposed to do. From time to time, Sloane came in to keep me updated on everything going on. By the time the program had started the guests had already arrived and some of the party planners had recruited themselves from the mansion to the venue of the party.

After an hour, almost two, Sloane came into the room and by then the suit had been completed, meanwhile she was already fully dressed, a glittery blue dress with a thigh high slit. I could swear that I hadn’t seen her looking this beautiful in a really long time.

She had her hair packed upwards with very light make up on and lipstick. She looked really busy, and was panting at the same time, “Sir, … err.” she pulled her pen and scrolled through her pad, “sir, the party started a moment ago and to be honest, it’s almost time for your speech. I mean it was time for your speech but I had already asked them to shift that and move onto the next but they’ve done all that’s left so the speech will be more like a closing speech so people can have the remaining err …” she stopped and stole a glance at her wristwatch, the. She turned to me, “Two hours will be used for us to have a good time at the ceremony.”

I just stood there staring at her, admiring how good she looked which was weird because it was breathtaking. Literally.

“We’re done sir.” The designer’s assistants said to me as they packed up their bags and walked out of the room without waiting for a response from me, “Sir?” Sloane called out to me, gently waving her hand in my face, “You look —”

“Sir, is there anything I can help you with? Are you okay?”I cleared my throat and stepped down from the platform, “Right, I’m fine … err shall we leave?” I gestured towards the door.

“Of course sir, the driver is waiting for us in the car already and some of the event planners who didn’t leave earlier will join us as we step out.”

“Perfect,” I stepped into the car and so did she from the opposite side and we shut the doors at the same time. The car was set in motion and we were already on our way out then I started, “You have everything under control.”I muttered to her, "Of course sir, that’s my job sir.” She shot a smile at me and turned back to her pad, “I have to make sure everything is under control and moves very smoothly and perfectly.”

“Well then you’re doing a great job.” I smirked at her and she turned her gaze to me and a soft smile appeared on her face, “Thank you sir.” She sounded soft and genuine.

“And by the way, you look… “ I ran my eyes through from her head to her toes, “you look amazing, Sloane, breathtakingly beautiful.” I whispered.

She looked up straight and turned her gaze to the rear mirror and so did our eyes caught that of the driver, “Thank you sir.” she whispered.

After a little drive, we arrived at the venue and the music was loud enough that we could hear it from outside of the building. We stepped in and we were greeted by the beautifully decorated space, the lighting was perfect and the place was packed, “I didn’t think this many people would be here?” I said to Sloane, “Everyone you’ve worked with and colleagues too are present sir, it’s strictly by invitation sir.”

We were headed to the seats reserved for us both when I spotted Oliver in the crowd chattering and laughing with some other men in suit and I remembered immediately that Mr Kade Langford would be in this room and so would Isadora and just as I expected, she came to him and whispered something in his ears with two drinks in her hands.

I sighed at them, the bitch made her go get drinks while he wanted to talk with a bunch of other nitwits just like everyone else in this room. She handed one of the drinks over to Oliver and took a sip out of hers, her eyes wandering around the room when her gaze caught mine.

We both stared at each other and for some reason I just felt angry, “Sir?” Sloane called out, “What?”

“Sir you have to sit,” she whispered to me and I took a seat. After a minute, the host of the ceremony went up the stage and said a few words, Sloane leaned in closer to me, “You’re up now, sir.” she whispered to me.

“— so please, let’s welcome Mr Charles Montclair to give his speech of appreciation.”
