Chapter 36
Elizabeth's POV
Alexander's furrowed brow instantly snapped me back to reality, and I immediately looked away.
"Aiden, give me back my parents' things. This is my final warning."
With Alexander present, Aiden had no choice but to nod reluctantly, "I'll return them, I'll return everything."
I turned to the assistant, who could barely stand and ordered, "Give Aiden the phone and have him arrange it right now."
The assistant staggered over to Aiden and handed him the phone.
At this moment, Alexander spoke up, "Send them to my place."
I instinctively wanted to object, but his tone left no room for argument, making me realize this wasn't the time to challenge him. I could only go along with it, "Then I'll have to trouble Mr. Windsor."
I almost forgot, the only reason Alexander was helping me was because of the child in my belly and some value I could provide that I hadn't fully figured out yet.
Though Aiden looked unwilling, he still made the call on the spot, having someone send the items to Alexander's villa.
"If anything's missing, I guarantee you'll regret it." After this cold warning, I left the hospital room at Alexander's signal. Only when I walked out of the hospital entrance did I finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The atmosphere earlier had been so oppressive, making me feel trapped with no escape.
Alexander was walking right beside me, and my briefly relaxed nerves immediately tensed up again. I turned to look at him.
"Mr. Windsor, thank you for showing up on time. If it weren't for you, I might have been done for today."
Aiden had clearly been prepared to go all out this time, he just hadn't expected Alexander to suddenly appear.
His gaze locked onto me, his eyes carrying a complex emotion I couldn't read.
"Is that all your gratitude is, just one sentence?" His cold tone brought me back to reality immediately.A businessman like him prioritized profit above all else. His willingness to spend time saving me must be because I could bring him greater returns.
In other words, I had to show him concrete actions to repay him.
Looking at his stern face, I swallowed hard. Once in the car, I gathered my courage to speak, "We need to be clear first, if you try to hurt me, I'll hurt this child too."
The vehicle drove smoothly as Alexander frowned.
He seemed to be considering the credibility of my words. Meeting his gaze, I added firmly, "I'm not joking. My goal is simple to protect myself."
My family was already gone. If I couldn't even protect myself, The Spencer Family would truly have nothing left.
I wouldn't repeat the same mistakes. The years I'd wasted on Aiden were enough. I had to survive and take back everything I'd lost.
Alexander's gaze grew colder as he looked at me. I unconsciously gripped the corner of my clothes, assuming a defensive posture. But the next second, he suddenly smiled.
"Interesting. You dare to threaten me with the child."
I didn't dare respond, because this was indeed my trump card, and it seemed this card was quite effective.
"So you saved me just because of the child in my belly?"
"Saving you naturally serves my purposes. Sometimes knowing too much isn't a good thing."
Alexander closed his eyes, seemingly unwilling to say more.
The car was very quiet. I opened my mouth but ultimately said nothing.
He was right, he saved me for his own reasons, and these reasons he wouldn't tell me. Asking too much would only bring trouble.
I simply shut my mouth and unconsciously shifted closer to the car door.
But regardless, before the child was born, Alexander probably wouldn't really do anything to me.
Back at The Windsor Family.
Aiden had someone deliver the items. I had them moved to my room and sorted through them one by one. Looking at these belongings of my parents, tears flowed uncontrollably down my face.
Lisa hurriedly brought tissues to wipe my tears, softly comforting me, "Ms. Spencer, please don't be sad. With Mr. Windsor here from now on, he'll protect you."
Anna chimed in from the side, "That's right, Ms. Spencer. The Windsor Family won't mistreat you, especially since you're carrying Mr. Windsor's child!"
I looked at them and sighed.
It seemed to them that as long as I could hold onto Alexander, all my problems would be solved.
But they didn't understand that Alexander wasn't my support at all, and my revenge against Aiden had only just begun.
I put everything away, then contacted a media outlet and sent over all the evidence I had of Aiden and Bianca's inappropriate relationship.
At eight o'clock that evening, news of Aiden's affair with Bianca during our marriage exploded online, instantly dominating several trending topics.
Watching netizens verbally attack Aiden on my phone, I only felt this was far from enough.
Too light that this punishment was far too light.
I still needed to let everyone see Bianca's true face, to let Aiden know he was also the fool being kept in the dark!
"Lisa, help me put these things away." I pointed at those belongings. "Make sure to keep them safe."
Lisa nodded repeatedly, thinking I had truly pulled myself together.
I glanced at the time. Alexander should be back by now, working in his study.
Without hesitation, I walked over and knocked on the study door.
"Come in." A brief response came from inside. I took a deep breath at the door to calm my emotions before entering.
Alexander was sitting behind his desk. He glanced up at me, his expression lazy with a hint of elegance.
"What is it?"
He didn't seem surprised at all by my initiative to visit, even having the leisure to twirl the pen in his hand.
"I need the freedom to come and go." I sat directly across from him, getting straight to the point.
This afternoon, I had wanted to go out but was stopped by Lisa.
They said Alexander was working and couldn't be disturbed, and they also refused my request to contact him.
This meant my personal freedom was still restricted. Alexander had no intention of giving me real freedom.
"If I give you freedom, what if you run away?"
Alexander looked at me, those deep eyes like a cold pool, making me feel a wave of panic.
He seemed able to easily see through all my thoughts. That gaze seemed to tell me that any pretense was futile in front of him.
"I won't run." I answered very firmly, but from his expression, I could tell he didn't believe a single word.
That hint of contemptuous doubt caught me off guard.
I immediately added, "Although Aiden returned the items, that doesn't mean things are over. My revenge has only just begun. I couldn't possibly leave at this time."
Alexander quietly watched me, seemingly waiting for me to give him a more convincing reason.
The silent standoff was torturous. I couldn't help but play my final card, "If you don't agree, I can't guarantee this child's safety."
