Chapter 198
Chapter 198
Maybe it was all meant to be.
She curved her lips and nodded in acknowledgment, "You're right."
After saying that, she nodded slightly and was about to leave.
"Aren't you curious why he was with Violette if he didn't love her?"
Layla paused, then turned back to look at him, but asked a different question instead. "Do you really like Violette?"
Adrian's eyes darkened as he looked at her, then suddenly curved his lips. "Like her? Of course I do. The more I see her, the more I like her."
Layla pressed her red lips together lightly. Seth's condition was his secret, and she had no right to tell anyone.
He had never even told his own parents and family about his condition, let alone friends.
"I don't know, because I don't care about these things anymore. What happened in the past has nothing to do with me, but if you want to know, go ask him yourself." After saying that, she turned and left.
Adrian liked Violette, but Violette loved Seth.
Although Violette's death was caused by Abigail, the root cause was still Seth.
And William's situation was the same.
The most she could do was not hate Seth, but she couldn't help blaming him.
Adrian watched Layla's retreating figure disappear before looking away, turning his gaze in another direction.
Seth was staring expressionlessly in the direction Layla had just left.
Only when she disappeared from view did he shift his gaze to Adrian, speaking flatly. "You want to know so badly, are you really that hung up on it?"
Adrian looked at him too, "Why wouldn't I be?"
Seth walked over, looking at him up close. "The reason is simple, because she was too clingy and too obsessive."
Adrian snorted coldly, raising an eyebrow at him, "You think I'll believe that?"
"Whether you believe it or not doesn't matter. I'm just giving you an answer."
Seth glanced at Adrian sideways, "Even if Violette had chosen to be with you back then, do you think with your personality, how long would you have liked her?"
Men were just such cheap creatures.
He didn't know it before, but only after experiencing it himself did he understand.
The one who loved them, they ignored; the one who was indifferent to them, they couldn't stop thinking about.
What they couldn't have was always the best; what they had lost was what they couldn't forget.
Seeing him stay silent, Seth walked away.
Adrian narrowed his eyes, watching him leave with a frown, then looked in another direction. "Come out."
Only then did Coralie dare to peek out and look at him. Seeing his cold expression, she felt a bit scared. "I didn't mean to eavesdrop, I'm sorry..."
Adrian looked at her with an indifferent expression, "Go back to your room."
Coralie nodded repeatedly, "Okay, okay." She left without looking back.
If Seth was a cold and heartless person, then Adrian was a promiscuous and sentimental one.
The night passed quietly.
Until the sun rose the next day, Layla hadn't slept well last night, probably because she was in a different place, Elijah wasn't by her side, or maybe because of yesterday's conversations with Adrian and Seth.
She sat on the bed, pinching the bridge of her nose.
That was when there was a knock on the door.
"Coming." She threw off the covers and got out of bed to open the door.
Beatrice, wearing a tank top, waved at her, "Good morning."
"Good morning."
"I came to get you for breakfast. Go freshen up quickly."
Actually, Layla wanted to say she didn't need to wait, but in the end, she swallowed those words and nodded. "Okay, just a moment."
Layla freshened up quickly, in about five minutes.
She was completely bare-faced. Before, it was because Seth liked her clean and fresh look.
Now she just didn't want to wear makeup, unless she had to go to some event.
Because Elijah kissed her every day.
"You're not putting on makeup?"
"No need, let's go."
Beatrice looked at her face and chuckled, "Although I'm not bad-looking either, I have to admit my bare face isn't as pretty as yours, and my skin isn't as good."
Layla turned to look at her, and said, "You're beautiful too."
"Layla, I actually really want to ask you something." Beatrice said.
"What?"
"You and Seth, is there any possibility you two could get back together?"
Layla shook her head, answering decisively, "No."
"Really no possibility at all?"
"None."
"Why? Why did you two suddenly divorce back then? I asked Beckett, and he wouldn't tell me, saying he didn't know either. But when you divorced, you obviously already had a child. Did you know you were pregnant when you got divorced?"
Layla nodded, "Yes."
"You knew you were pregnant and still got divorced?"
"Yes."
"Why? Did he do something unforgivable?"
Layla nodded, "Sort of."
"I knew it. But he still seems to be hung up on you. If he has feelings for you, why is he making such a big show with that actress?"
Layla shook her head. She had answered each of her questions. "I don't know."
"You two really have no chance of getting back together?"
"No."
Beatrice said jokingly, "If you two have absolutely no chance, then I'm going to pursue Seth again!"
But as soon as she said this, Layla stopped in her tracks.
She looked at Seth and Beckett ahead and pressed her lips together.
Seth's gaze was deep as he looked at her, his expression calm, but it didn't seem displeased either.
But Beckett beside him looked much worse. He was staring hard at Beatrice. "What did you just say? If you dare, say it again!"
Beatrice suddenly turned her head to look. Seeing Seth and Beckett, she couldn't help but gasp. She tugged at Layla's clothes. "When did they get here?"
Based on Layla's observation, she said softly, "They should have been here the whole time."
"So they heard our whole conversation?"
Layla glanced at both men's expressions and nodded, "Probably."
Otherwise, why would Beckett look so upset?
Beatrice blinked, then turned to look at Beckett and rushed toward him.
"Honey, don't be mad, I was just joking!" She said and gave Beckett a big kiss.
Beckett stared hard at Beatrice, his face still dark. He turned Beatrice to face him properly and pointed at Seth beside him. "Tell me honestly, do you still have feelings for Seth?"
Beatrice didn't even glance at Seth, quickly explaining, "I really don't. I was just joking, testing Layla."
Beckett didn't believe Beatrice. He was still angry. "Why were you testing her?"
"I was just curious. Turns out Layla's position is really firm - she says nothing will make her get back together with Mr. Stanton."
