Chapter 197

Chapter 197

In the end, both Layla and Seth fell silent.

Layla wanted to end this conversation quickly, but since they'd already gotten this far, pretending to know nothing was impossible.

"So your psychological issues are completely gone now?"

Seth looked at her and nodded, "All gone."

"How did they get better?"

"Because of you."

"Me?"

"I told you I was interested in you from the first moment I saw you. That kind of interest and restlessness was something I couldn't control. Do you think a man with emotional defects would still have desires?"

Layla looked at him with some surprise. So the reason he had almost no scandals before was that he had no desire for women, no feelings?

"But that day when I first saw you, my desire was very strong."

Layla's brow twitched a few times. "Okay, stop talking!"

"After you left me, I seriously reflected on why I didn't cherish you after getting you, after marrying you..."

Only then did Layla turn to look at him.

Seth added, "I've figured it out now."

What did he figure out?

"I figured out why I didn't cherish you after having you. Maybe it was because I got you too easily, so I didn't treasure you."

Layla's eyes flickered slightly at these words, but she still kept her gaze averted from him.

"So it took the possibility of losing you for me to realize how important you are to me. After you left, I discovered that I truly understood what love is..."

By this point, Layla didn't want to hear anymore. "Enough, Seth. There's no point in saying these things now. Leave, I really need to rest."

Seth looked at her with eyes as deep as the ocean. He pressed his thin lips together and said in a low voice. "You taught me what love is."

Layla's brow furrowed slightly. She turned to face him, her expression calm and composed. "I said I need to rest!"

Seth stared at her intensely for a few seconds before slowly releasing her shoulders.

Layla immediately walked away from him. "Leave. I need to rest."

Layla stood by the bed, looking at his tall figure, speaking flatly.

Only then did Seth turn to look at her. They were separated by just a few steps.

Layla slightly averted her gaze, not wanting to look at him anymore.

A few seconds later, Layla heard him say in a low voice, "Even if you don't want to hear it, there's one thing I still need to say."

Layla's heart tightened. She raised her hand and pointed to the door behind him, "I also said I don't want to hear it. I'm asking you to leave this room right now!"

But he just looked at her with dark eyes, seemingly calm yet containing countless emotions.

"Layla..."

Layla stared at him hard, as if warning him not to continue.

Seth's face was extremely somber, his eyes suppressed yet surging, staring at her without moving.

"I love you."

Hearing these words, Layla finally couldn't hold back her emotions and seemed somewhat angry. "Get out, now!"

Seth's eyes grew even darker and more unfathomable. Facing her anger, he only said in a deep voice, "I know I'm not qualified to be with you anymore, but I still want you to know my feelings for you. Sleep early, good night."

After saying this, Seth took a deep look at her and left the room.

Layla stood there for a long time before saying through gritted teeth. "He's crazy!"

She turned and fell backward onto the bed behind her.

Seth actually dared to say he loved her at a time like this?

Did he think she would care?

No, she didn't care. His love came so heavy, so difficult.

He should save it for someone else!

After calming her emotions, Layla sat up from the bed. She was still wearing a bathrobe and swimsuit. Her clothes were still in the changing room.

She sat on the bed for a long time, probably five or six minutes, before remembering to get her clothes.

She noted her room number before leaving and went to the changing room.

She was changing when she heard someone come in. She thought it was Beatrice.

But when she came out, she found it was Coralie.

When Coralie saw her, she greeted her naturally. "Ms. Montgomery, why are you only changing now?"

Layla just nodded and said, "Couldn't find the way."

"Right? This resort is quite big. This is my first time here too. I don't know if I'll have another chance to come with Adrian in the future." Her tone was somewhat worried and reluctant.

Layla just glanced at her and said, "It opens for trial operation next month. You can come whenever you want."

Coralie looked at her for a while before nodding. "Yes, I can still come play with friends if I want."

Layla nodded at her, "Take your time changing. I'll go out first."

"Okay."

But when she walked out of the changing room and reached the corner, she saw Adrian standing by the window near a trash can, smoking.

It was the only way back to the rooms. Even if Layla wanted to pretend not to see him, she couldn't.

She paused for a few seconds before walking over.

Hearing footsteps, Adrian looked over sideways. He thought it was Coralie.

When he saw Layla, his eyes darkened slightly.

Layla also met his gaze. She hadn't thought much of it before, but now she felt inexplicably awkward.

She just nodded at him without calling out to him.

After greeting him, Layla was about to leave when Adrian suddenly called out to her. "You heard everything outside just now, didn't you?"

Layla's heart jumped. Hearing this, she could only turn to face him.

Her red lips pressed together lightly. So did both Adrian and Seth know she was outside the door?

Then they spoke without any reservations? Did they deliberately want her to know?

After several seconds of silence, she said softly, "Sorry."

Adrian pulled at the corner of his mouth and threw his cigarette butt into the trash can, then looked at her. "Hearing him personally admit he never loved his ex-girlfriend, are you happy?"

Layla didn't know why he would ask this. Did he think she should be happy?

She had some goodwill toward Adrian. Regardless of whether that drunken incident was Seth's arrangement or not, it was Adrian who appeared in time to help her.

If he hadn't appeared in time or had been a bit later, the consequences would have been unthinkable.

"Not at all."

Adrian looked at her with deep eyes, "He only has you in his heart. I thought you'd be moved."

Did Seth only have her in his heart?

She didn't know. Even if that were true, the price was too high.

She'd rather he never had her in his heart at all.

"About Violette, I'm very sorry."

She could even find some sense of shared misfortune.

But Adrian laughed lightly and looked at her. "What are you sorry about? Seth's heart and eyes are full of you now. In the end, you're the winner."

"Am I the winner?" Layla looked at him quietly, as if asking this question from the bottom of her heart.

Adrian looked at her calmly, "Comparatively speaking, you are."

Put that way, Layla was indeed quite fortunate. Compared to a broken family and death, she hadn't truly lost everything.

But even if she knew this, could it change the outcome?

She had no answer, because of her entanglement with Seth, she had Elijah, but she also lost William.

This question was destined to have no solution.

So did she regret it? She had before.

But watching Elijah grow day by day, those emotions had long since disappeared.
