Chapter 93 CHAPTER 93
Chapter 93 CHAPTER 93
Andrew’s POV
“Where is Jayden?” I ask, my voice sharp and rude at the same time.
She stares at me for a moment and then asks, “Who is Jayden?”
My mother isn’t the type to deny the things she did. For every action of hers, she defends it till the end. Did that change?
“Aurora’s child whom you had kidnapped. Don’t you even know his name?” I ask angrily. “You’d better let the little boy go right now. He is only two years old. I always knew you were immoral but I never thought you would target a two-year old.”
“I didn’t,” she replies calmly.
“What do you mean? You are the only person who would try such,” I say, convinced that I was right.
“I didn’t do it,” she tells me firmly. “I’ve been busy all day for this show. Does it look like I have time to kidnap a child?”
“No, it has to be you,” I still say, doubting her.
“Why does it have to be me?” she asks. “Is that what you wish to believe?”
Deep inside my heart, I also want my mother not to be the culprit. However, if she wasn’t, it would only get harder. If it was my mother, she would probably want to do a deal for the safety of the child. However, now that she wasn’t, I wouldn’t know what the culprit would want.
She continues to say, “Right, I wanted to deal with Aurora. I wanted to teach her the lesson of her life and yes, I thought of harming the child. However, I didn’t end up doing it.”
“You thought of harming the child?” I ask, stunned at how vile she is.
“It was one of those invasive thoughts. I never carried it out so it doesn’t matter,” she tells me firmly. “I don’t know who kidnapped the child but it’s definitely not me.”
“Mother, if you are lying to me…” I try to say. The door opens so I pause.
“You need to get ready. The director wants you to stand by,” Anna cuts in. From the look on her face, she understands we were having an intense conversation.
“Let’s talk later. Good luck finding the child,” mother says as she starts to step out. She stops at the door and turns to me, “Why are you looking for the boy so bad? He isn’t yours. Doesn’t he have a father?”
I do not respond. She leaves and I’m left alone in the dressing room. I feel asphyxiated and for a moment, I think of punching the mirror. I will probably bleed but it will ease the pain in my heart.
My phone beeps so I abandon the thought. The picture of the kidnapper has just been sent to me. Instantly, I forward it to my private detective, Julien. He is competent enough to find her in a couple of minutes.
I walk out of the building and receive Julien’s call.
“I found the lady’s personal information,” Julien says over the phone.
“She is no lady, she is a criminal,” I tell him. “Do you have her address? Send it to me now.”
I cut the call, get into my car and my phone beeps. Julien has sent the address with a short note, ‘I’m heading there as well’. I turn on the ignition and it’s a GO.
The address leads me to somewhere that is pretty much a ghetto. Old buildings needing repairs, no flowers for decoration… It looks like the sort of place where you wouldn’t be surprised to see a ghost suddenly pop out. The target house is pretty much desolate but I walk near anyway. Before I knock, I do some calculation.
The kidnapper was a woman. If she appears alone, I can take her down. If she comes with a knife or baseball bat, I will still manage to take her down. If she has a gun, that would be game over for me. But it’s highly unlikely she will have a gun, right? What if she isn’t alone? She might have fellow kidnappers. I might be able to handle one accomplice but anything more than that will put me in danger.
Maybe I should wait for Julien. The guy was a professional martial artist. Together, we can take the criminals down.
Then I hear some noise inside. I wonder what it was and this curiosity makes me open the door without knocking. I can hear the noise coming from the bedroom. Someone seems to be in a hurry.
I open the door skeptically and I find her, the lady who kidnapped Jayden. She is hurriedly stuffing her belongings into a small bag. I can see her passport and a bundle of cash on the bed. I stay right by the door and check around to see if she has an accomplice. I do not find one but I do not see Jayden either.
She turns back and she finally sees me.
“Who are you?” she asks nervously.
I enter the room and close the door, “Where is Jayden?”
She throws the first thing she can find on me and in this case, it was the iron. I block it with my right hand but it hurts like crazy. Before I can recover from this, she attacks me with her bag. I try to get the bag from her but she is extremely fast. I try to hold her back but she digs her teeth into my flesh. I let her go, swearing under my breath. She grabs her small bag and runs out of the room. I chase after her but she gets outside before me. She bumps into something outside and it pushes her back. I stop to see what it was and Julien’s head peeks out.
“You are here already,” Julien says with a smile as he sees me.
“The girl… she is a beast,” I begin to pant in exhaustion.
Julien scoffs, “Who would have thought a woman would defeat you so easily?”
“She didn’t defeat me. I just didn’t want to hit her,” I explain.
“I’m not interested in your excuses,” he waves it off. Ladies and gentlemen, I now have a dent in my record. This will haunt me for life.
