Chapter 78 Chapter 78

Chapter 78 Chapter 78
Vamica's POV

My body hummed with pain as Ethan drove away from Knight.

The urge to tell him to stop the car so strong I had to ball my hands into fists.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Ethan questioned softly.

I shook my head, the lump in my throat not giving me leave to talk.

The look of confusion in his eyes once I confronted him about the files had me reconsidering if he truly knew about them in the first place.

It didn't matter, it was clearly stated in the file his father had murdered my parents in cold blood.

I pressed a fist to my mouth, blocking the sob that wanted to escape from me.

My heart panged, making me drop a hand against the patch of skin where the organ rested beneath.

I really couldn't handle having another attack now. My chest heaved with effort as I tried to breathe through the pain I was feeling.

The pain didn't feel physical, I could feel it but as I placed my hand above my thudding heart, the constant beat didn't change at all.

Ethan parked his car in the garage, turning to glance at me.

His eyes were worried, his hand tightened briefly around the wheel of his car.

“Whenever you are ready to talk about it I would be here” He said to me, his hand leaving the wheel as he squeezed at my shoulder.

I nodded at him, droplets of tears dripping down on my hands that laid on my laps.

“T-thank you” I muttered out, my voice choked up. I just wanted to slip into bed and wake up to see this was all a nightmare.

I pushed open the door to his car, hanging slightly behind him as he opened the door to his apartment.

“Wait, why don't you hang out with me in the living room?” He asked, stopping me as I walked towards.

“I don't think I would be any fun to hang out with now” I shot him a shaky smile.

“You don't need to do anything, I…I just don't want you to stay cooped up in the room” He let out, dragging me slightly into the living room.

We sat side by side on the sofa, out shoulders brushing against each other.

The television flickered on, a drama came on. My eyes stayed fixed on it.

I felt his hand moved closer to mine. My eyes dropped down to see his hand envelope mine.

My eyes shot to his eyes, his gaze pinned on the screen.

“What are you doing, Ethan?” I questioned, my voice hoarse. His throat bobbed, eyes dropping to mine.

“Let me take care of you, Vamica” He whispered out to me, the reflection of the television flickering on his face.

My brain took its sweet time interpreting what he said, my brows snapping together.

“I love you” He added, his hand cupping my cheek. It felt as if I couldn't move, my eyes searching through his.

His head lowered against mine. I let out a shocked gasp as his lips pressed softly against mine.

Time seemed to stop for a while before I shoved at him, my hand covering my lips.

“I…I have to go” I stood up, walking sharply into his spare room.

I slammed the door shut behind me, my hands trembling as they pressed into the cool surface of the door.

The kiss made me feel…sick. It felt as if I cheated on Knight for some reason.

Angry at myself, I sank to the floor. My hands fisting my hair.

Why couldn't I like someone like Ethan who was normal?

Why did I have to be attracted to someone whose family had destroyed mine?

“I am sorry, Vamica” Ethan's voice sounded behind me.

“I…I shouldn't have told you that yet” He mumbled out reluctantly.

I remained silent, not knowing what to say to that. I knew within me I could never feel the same way.

“Ethan, I can't…”

“I would wait, don't give me a response now” He interrupted me.

“Okay” I whispered. I heard him leave, a sigh of relief falling from my lips.

My heart felt too heavy for all this happenings. There was just one person I could go to.

I stood up from where I sat on the floor, opening the door slightly to confirm Ethan had left.

With my phone in hand, I left his apartment. The thought of coming back after what had happened weighed heavily on my mind.

But I couldn't go back to my apartment. Knight would be there and I would succumb to him despite all I knew.

My head rested against the window of the cab I was in, the street leading to the hospital breezing past.

I didn't want to here the nurse in charge of my grandma reject my need to see her once more.

I felt like I would explode if I didn't talk to her soon.

I walked into the hospital, the smell of drugs and methylated spirit so sharp, my nostrils tingled with a sneeze.

I slid the door to my grandmother's room, my heart pounding in my chest.

My eyes went wide when I noticed her bed was empty. What was going on?

My heart beat sped up, the organ pinching in pain as my vision became blurred.

I heard the door behind me open mutely, my feet giving up on me.

The last thing I saw before my vision went dark was the worried face of my Grandma's nurse.

“How did she get here?” I heard a weak voice question, making me open my eyes.

It was my grandma. I lunged at her, a spike of pain rushing through me at the motion.

I was connected to a drip. My eyes bounced back to her, tears in my eyes.

“My darling girl, I was about to call you when she brought you here” she let out, her frail hand cupping my cheek.

“I thought you were gone” I croaked out, sniffling.

Her eyes roved over me, her smile waning. “You would get weaker the more you stay away from him, Vami”
