Chapter 109 Marry me
CHAPTER 109
Marry me?
Few Days Later
A few days later, life slowly began feeling lighter again. The tension, fear, and endless hospital visits gradually faded, replaced by peace neither Leo nor Ruby thought they would find so soon.
Ruby had finally been discharged from the hospital, though Leo still acted as though she was made of glass..He refused to let her walk too much, refused to let her carry anything and somehow, he always found a reason to stay beside her every second.
That afternoon, soft sunlight poured through the large windows of Leo’s mansion while quiet music played in the background.
Ruby sat comfortably on the couch flipping through a book when Leo walked out of the kitchen holding two cups of coffee.
“You’re staring again,” Ruby teased softly.
Leo handed her one cup before sitting beside her. “I can’t help it.”
Ruby laughed quietly. “You’re becoming dramatic lately.”
Leo wrapped an arm around her waist immediately. “You almost died. Let me be dramatic.”
Ruby shook her head fondly before resting against him, moments like this had become normal now. Peaceful mornings, late-night talks, random teasing, slow kisses that lasted longer than necessary.
Ruby genuinely looked happy and Leo noticed it every single day. That evening, Leo unexpectedly took her out to the rooftop garden above the mansion. The city lights sparkled beautifully beneath the night sky while soft wind brushed gently around them.
Ruby smiled softly while looking around.
“This is beautiful.”
Leo stood quietly behind her. “No,” he said softly. “You are.”
Ruby turned toward him immediately with a shy laugh. “You’ve definitely changed.”
Leo smiled slightly before reaching for her hand.
Then suddenly he became serious.
Ruby noticed immediately. “Leo?”
Without another word, Leo slowly got down on one knee.
Ruby’s eyes widened instantly, for a second, she completely froze.
Leo pulled out a small velvet ring box carefully before opening it. Inside rested a beautiful diamond ring shining beneath the rooftop lights.
Ruby covered her mouth immediately in shock. “Leo…”
His eyes never left hers. “I know things haven’t been easy for us,” he said softly. “But through every terrible moment… every fight… every fear… you stayed.”
Ruby’s eyes slowly filled with tears.
Leo smiled gently. “You became my peace, Ruby.”
His voice softened even more. “And I don’t want another future without you in it.”
Ruby was already crying quietly now.
Leo squeezed her hand carefully.
“So marry me.”
For two whole seconds, Ruby simply stared at him emotionally. Then suddenly she laughed through tears while nodding repeatedly.
“Yes.”
Leo blinked once. “Yes?”
Ruby laughed harder. “Yes, Leo!”
Leo immediately stood and pulled her into his arms while she laughed happily against him.
Then he kissed her deeply beneath the city lights.
After slipping the ring onto her finger, Leo rested his forehead gently against hers. “You just made me the happiest man alive.”
Ruby smiled tearfully. “I already was.”

The next morning, Jane visited the mansion carrying snacks and flowers dramatically like she always did.
“I’m here to save Ruby from Leo’s overprotective behavior—”
She stopped immediately the moment she entered the living room. Ruby sat beside Nora while laughing softly about something.
Jane blinked. “Nora?”
Nora smiled warmly. "Hi."
Jane frowned suspiciously. “Why do both of you look unusually happy?”
Ruby and Nora exchanged looks before smiling again.
Jane narrowed her eyes immediately.
“What happened?”
Ruby slowly lifted her left hand..
Jane stared at the ring.nThen screamed.n“Oh my God!”
She nearly dropped everything in her hands before rushing toward Ruby.
“You’re engaged?!”
Ruby burst into laughter while nodding.
Jane hugged her tightly immediately.
“I knew it! I absolutely knew this man was obsessed with you!”
Nora laughed softly beside them. Jane grabbed Ruby’s hand dramatically again. “The ring is gorgeous!”
Ruby smiled shyly. “He proposed last night.”
Jane turned toward Leo instantly.
“You actually did something romantic?”
Leo raised one eyebrow. “Watch your mouth.”
Jane ignored him completely before hugging Ruby again excitedly.
The room quickly filled with laughter and happiness.
It truly felt like a new beginning.
That evening, the Carter mansion felt warmer than it had in years. The long dining table was beautifully arranged while soft music played quietly throughout the luxurious dining hall.
For once, the mansion no longer felt cold. It felt alive. At the main table sat Leo, Ruby, Richard, Blake, and Jane.
Meanwhile, at the nearby table sat Nora, Alex, Carl, and Ben and somehow
Chaos had already started before dinner properly began.
“Why does Blake already have a wine glass?” Jane asked suspiciously.
Blake looked offended immediately.
“Because I’m sophisticated.”
“You almost tripped entering the dining room.”
“That floor attacked me.”
Alex burst into laughter from the other table.
Carl shook his head quietly while Ben nearly choked on his drink laughing.
Richard smiled warmly watching the interactions around him. For the first time in years, his home sounded happy again.
Ruby sat beside Leo quietly smiling while listening to everyone argue. Leo occasionally glanced toward her with the same soft expression he always carried lately.
Jane noticed immediately. “Oh my God,” she groaned dramatically. “Can you stop staring at her for five minutes?”
Leo calmly took another sip of his drink. “No.”
Ruby laughed softly beside him.
Blake pointed accusingly. “See? This is exactly what I’ve been suffering through.”
“You’re jealous because nobody loves you,” Jane replied instantly.
The entire table burst into laughter.
Blake looked genuinely wounded. “I came here for dinner, not emotional damage.”
Even Richard laughed loudly this time.
The warm atmosphere continued throughout dinner.
Ben and Alex argued over food portions. Jane kept teasing Blake nonstop. Carl remained quiet as usual until Nora unexpectedly dragged him into conversation.
And somehow, Ruby found herself laughing more than she had in months.
Then suddenly Leo placed his glass down gently. The movement caught everyone’s attention immediately.
Blake narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
“That face means trouble.”
Leo ignored him before looking toward everyone calmly. “There’s something Ruby and I want to announce.”
Jane gasped dramatically. “You’re pregnant?”
Ruby nearly choked on her drink. “Jane!”
Blake laughed loudly while Richard looked horrified.
Leo sighed deeply. “We’re engaged.”
Then chaos exploded instantly. Jane screamed again. Blake shot up from his seat.
Alex almost dropped his fork. Even Carl looked genuinely shocked for once.
Richard stared at them both quietly before emotion slowly filled his eyes.
Leo reached for Ruby’s hand gently, revealing the ring fully.
Blake pointed dramatically. “You really proposed before me seeing it firsthand? Betrayal.”
Ruby laughed softly.
Jane immediately ran around the table to hug her again. “This is the best news ever!”
Nora looked emotional too while Alex grinned proudly.
Richard remained quiet for a moment before finally standing slowly. The entire room calmed.
He walked toward Leo and Ruby carefully. When he finally stood before them, his eyes were already emotional again.
Richard looked at Ruby first. “You brought my son back to life.”
Ruby’s expression softened instantly.
Then Richard looked toward Leo.
“And you finally learned what truly matters.”
Leo smiled faintly. Richard placed a hand on both their shoulders gently.
“You both went through pain no one
should experience.”
His voice became softer “But somehow… you found each other through it.”
“You have my blessing.”
Ruby’s eyes filled with tears immediately.
Richard pulled both of them into a warm hug and for a moment, nobody spoke, because the warmth in that room already said enough
