Chapter 149 CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-NINE: SEDUCTION PLAN.
ZARA
I sat up in bed. I looked around to be sure that this was not a dream. Aiden had moved me from the couch where I had fallen asleep.
My eyes caught the appointment letter on the nightstand as they searched for Aiden. He was supposed to be in bed with me. Not wandering around somewhere.
I pushed off the covers and tried to tame my hair, which I was sure looked like a bird's nest on my head. I ran my finger through it multiple times, but every stroke felt like war.
My legs connected with the rugged floor, and a wave of dizziness hit. The room tilted just a bit, and I had to stretch my hands out to balance myself. I fluttered my eyes to steady myself.
The next second, a wave of nausea hit. I could feel something warm rushing up my chest, and my mouth was filled with something warm.
I looked down at the carpet underneath me, and without thinking, I began running, hoping I would make it to the bathroom before I had to throw up.
I bend over the toilet bowl, pouring out my stomach contents. I wiped my mouth clean, and my knees gave way; I fell to the floor. I tried to keep my head up, but I couldn't. It felt heavier than usual.
“Zara?” I gently swayed my head from side to side. Why was it so heavy? “Zaar?” Aiden called again. This time, he sounded more panicked than usual.
Of course, he was on edge. With the news of Rylan being released, if roles were reversed, I would also assume the worst.
I mustered all of my strength and gripped the toilet bowl, hoping to use it to push myself off the cold tiles, but it didn't work.
“In here," I finally replied in a lazy voice.
He opened the door and stood over me. His eyes were wide with shock as he rushed to squat beside me. His eyes were worried, and I didn't want to make him worried. Not at all.
“Are you okay? "What's wrong?”
“I must have eaten something bad yesterday," I said.
I was racking my brain trying to figure out why I would be feeling this way. I had not eaten anything bad yesterday.
“Did you throw up?” he was looking into the bowl. I nodded, clutching onto his shirt. He smelt like sweat; maybe he was coming back from a run.
The smell hit my nose again, and instantly a pool of warmth rose in my chest. I retched and pressed my nose down. I threw up into the bowl. One hand was on my chest, and the other was still holding onto him.
He held my hair back while I threw up and patted my back. “I am sorry, Zara," he muttered like this was his fault.
I wiped my mouth with the edge of my pyjamas and let out a sigh. “I am fine." I nodded.
I didn't feel fine, but I had to convince myself that I was fine. “I have to get ready for work," I added, trying to get off the floor again. His hands stayed close but didn't touch me, almost as if he were ready in case anything happened.
He caught my wrists and helped me stand. I felt better after emptying my stomach. I wiped my mouth again, the taste of puke lingering.
“You look sick, Zara. You should stay home today."
"No," I shook my head at once. “I can't."
My father was going to announce me as the next chairman. By now, the news had hit all major platforms, and everyone was talking about it. I needed to go gloat in the faces of everyone who said I wouldn't be able to make it.
“Zara…”
"Aisdne," I pouted, hoping this would work on him. “I have worked so hard on it."
“I am sure of you, exokaluin, in the situation with your father; he can reschedule."
“But everyone already knows by now. I don't want them already thinking I am weak on day one."
He sighed. The conflict in his eyes was telling, but he was worried about me. I rubbed his arm and smiled.
“If it would make you feel better, I would use something this morning," I said.
“And why would that make me feel better?”
“At least that way you tell me that I would be fine."
“I am not just worried about you being sick. I mean with Rylan out there…”
“He would be foolish to come to the company." I cut him off. I didn't want him to worry about Rylan. His case was an open-and-shut case. The moment the police got hold of him, he would be spending the rest of his life behind bars for fraud.
“Okay then, I trust you, but…” I groaned, cutting him off. He rolled his eyes playfully and continued. "...I will be sitting behind the succession ceremony. After the pictures and your gloating, we must go to the hospital to get you checked out."
It was not going to be easy to get out of this one. I didn't feel good. I guess a trip to the doctor was not too bad.
"Okay," I nodded. He tried to lean in for a kiss. I raised my hand to my mouth and shook my head. “You can't…”
“Why not?” he tilted his head.
“I just threw up, and my mouth probably tastes disgusting."
He looked amused by my theory. He grabbed my hand and slowly dropped it to my side. “I don't mind." He pressed his lips onto mine, and I had to restrain myself from deepening the kiss.
“I will have your suit ready and breakfast on the table," he said. He couldn't have looked sexier than any other time. I kissed his cheeks and smiled.
“Take your time… or if you want me to stay and help you…”
“Not today." I took a step back before my body could react. “I can't afford to be late."
He dragged his eyes over me with a lustful gaze. I didn't even miss it at all. “You are right," he finished with a small nose scrunch before leaving me alone in the bathroom.
I rinsed my mouth multiple times to try to stop the lingering taste of the puke in my mouth. It didn't work, so I forcefully brushed and gargled an unhealthy amount of mouthwash.
Aidne laid out a new suit I had never seen before. It was red. When I slipped it on, the skirt stopped mid-thigh, and the jacket was scandalous. I gasped at myself in the mirror.
“I knew you'd look good in this," I said to him, leaning on the doorframe like he had popped out of a book. I blinked rapidly as he made his way to me.
“Do you want me to wear this out?” I asked in a hushed whisper. It would pass up a Halloween costume at this point. He nodded like he didn't see anything wrong with it.
“Like this?” I pointed to my cleavage and then turned back to the mirror.
He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me flush to his side. “I mean, it was one of the reasons I fell for you. Why would I try to dim your light?
“I just think it might be a little inappropriate for a succession meeting."
He bit my ear and tugged on it. “Why? I like it. I think it looks sexy."
