Chapter 150 CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY: THE THIRD FAMILY MEMBER.
AIDEN
I was at the back of the hall as I promised Zara. I couldn't hide how proud I was of her. I couldn't stop myself from taking photos of her—the identity I wanted to cherish forever.
I watched her own the stage with grace in the suit I had picked out for her. That was one of the reasons I had fallen for her. She was always on the edge of everything and pushed boundaries.
The ceremony didn't last long. Her father handed her the microphone, and she gave a speech about how she was going to change everything from the inside out.
I couldn't help the burst of pride in my chest. I distinctly remembered the first day we met and how far we had come. From the marriage to this moment.
Even though she was smiling brightly with the bold red lipstick slathered on her lips. She still looked pale. I was worried, and I couldn't wait for all of the pleasantries to be over so we could see a doctor.
She was still speaking when Silas slipped in beside me. He cleared his throat with a low grunt and leaned in. He still tried to keep his eyes on the stage.
“I have news, sir," he murmured. I turned to him and nodded once.
“I will meet you outside."
He slipped back out as if he had never been here. I caught Zara’s eyes on the stage and smiled before I walked out. I could feel her eyes following me.
“This is about Rylan, isn't it?” I asked, and he nodded. “It better be good news." I pressed my back into the wall, and he stood beside me.
“We managed to intercept a black rose and note that he was trying to sneak into your house."
My head snapped to Silas so fast I almost lost my balance. My lips parted, and I slowly shook my head. “What? How did he get the address to… what did the note say?”
“Congratulations on the promotion and a QR code."
I gestured to him, and he pulled the card out of his pocket. I scanned the code, and it was a drone shot of our house. He was sending a warning.
“And my father? How is he working on this?”
“Mr Knight is already in the process of finding his location."
I licked my lips and nodded once. “Keep this on the low. Don't let anyone else find out."
“And the rose?”
"Investigate it; throw it out. Do whatever you want." I grabbed his shoulder and patted it. “Just don't let Zara find this."
The main boardroom door finally opens, and Zara walks out. She walks right to my side as Aidne manages to slip away and mingle in the crowd. I pulled her by the waist, flush to my side.
“You were absolutely amazing," I murmured into her ear.
She squared her shoulders and stood up straight. I could see the storm in her eyes; she was trying to act like my closeness wasn't affecting her.
“Mr and Mrs Knight… congratulations." A man stood in front of us, and others gathered. The way he stared at me felt like I was supposed to know him, but he just felt like a random face in all of the other faces around.
“You don't have to congratulate me," I said, shaking my head. I pushed Zara so she was standing in front of me. “My wife did all of that. She is the only one who deserves the praise."
The man looked like I had shot him when he was done. He swallowed multiple times while nodding. “Yes, yes, yes. Of course, you are right, Mr Knight."
I took her hand and intertwined her fingers. "Well, if you would excuse us, we have to go celebrate this," I said, planting a kiss on the back of her hand.
The entire hallway erupted with sounds of approval and cheers. I pulled her away as they watched us go.
“I saw Silas," she whispered into my ear. I looked at her. Of course, she did, even if he was being very subtle about it. “What was it about?” she nudged my side.
I wanted to tell her not to worry about it, but the fire in her eyes didn't let me dare. “Rylan sent a gift to the house." I showed her the image from the QR code and the black rose.
“Oh my god! It seems like I have been too lenient with him," she groaned, throwing her head back and rolling her eyes.
“Dad wants to take care of this." I squeezed her hand in assurance.
She leaned in on me. Her chin on my shoulders and her other hand on our intertwined hands.
“I am sure there is something we can…”
"Before we find out what that might be," I cut her off. She shot me a dissatisfied glare. “We need to get you to the hospital first."
She groaned and nodded. She couldn't refuse because she had given me her word earlier this morning.
Our family doctor was waiting to see us. We spent hours running tests and checking it all. I couldn't risk missing anything now.
While we are sitting in the waiting room, Zara is still speaking about the company and the projects she intends to embark on now that she has been made chairwoman.
"Aren't you afraid that I would take your trademark and make it mine?"
She leaned inot me and narrowed her eyes with a hint of warning in them. She spoke slowly; it sent subtle shivers down my spine.
“If you do that, I will take the Knight group from you."
I leaned in; she let out a shaky breath. ‘Good, I still affected her. ' A smile playing on my lips seemed to push her eyes into more warning. “I don't mind, Z. What is mine is already yours anyway."
“You are right about that. So why don't I just take it all?”
“I will have the lawyers draft up the contract and transfer it all to you, and then I can stay home and take care of you. Maybe you can leave the bar to me."
“The bar? "Why?" Her brows furrowed in confusion.
"Because that was where we first met officially. I want to cherish it forever."
She pouted and caught my arm. She pressed her head on the backward side of my shoulders. “I am just kidding. I don't want to take anything from you."
"The moment you want anything, all you have to do is tell me, and I will have it delivered to your doorstep."
“I can count on you then." She dragged my hand.
\~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Congratulations, Mr and Mrs Knight."
"Congratulations?" she turned to me, and then we turned back to the doctor. “What is…”
“You are pregnant."
The entire world stopped, and my heart started beating faster than normal. She grabbed my hand, and I squeezed it. The promise of children we had been throwing at each other for weeks now finally felt in reach.
Zara shifted in her seat and moved closer across the table. As if the closer she got, the better she could verify this piece of information. “Are you sure, doctor, I…”
“I am very sure. That must have been what was causing the vomiting and dizziness," he explained.
I turned to her and pulled her into a tight hug. “Oh my god! Zara, you…” I was lost for words; I had no idea what I was supposed to say. My heart was leaping for joy.
The doctor guided us through the process of getting registered. Something in me suddenly clicked.
It was no longer about just her and me again. We had a little one on the way, which meant I couldn't just sit back and fold my hands while Rylna rode free. I had to get him behind bars as soon as possible.
“What are you thinking about?” she nudged my arm in the car on the drive home. I blinked and turned to her, capturing her face in my hands.
“Our family”, I muttered, dragging my eyes across her face. I kissed her lips and felt joy well in my heart; I was afraid it might explode.
“And how lucky I am to have you."
