Chapter 74

I woke up to screaming. “What the hell?” I said out loud as I sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I was in my room. It was dark, I tried to turn on the lamp by my bed, but it wouldn’t come on. I got out of bed, stubbing my toe on the foot of the bedpost. “Ouch, damn!” I whispered to myself.

I attempted to turn on the overhead light but it wouldn’t come on. The power must be out. My door suddenly shot open and closed just as quickly as it opened.

“Fallon, hide, NOW!” Joe whispered to me. I couldn’t see anything. I ran into the closet, bumping into the door frame before making it fully into the closet. I closed the door and felt my way around to the part of the closet that was deep, I crawled behind the clothes and pushed them in front of me.

I was breathing so heavy. Was this the end? What is happening? I tried to slow my breathing, but the baby was kicking me so hard, making me breathe even heavier.

I waited for what felt like forever. I must have fallen asleep because Joe had dragged me out of my hiding place and was shaking me. “Fallon, listen to me.” I blinked and nodded. “You need to take the service hallways to the garage. Then you need to choose a vehicle big enough to ram the gate to get out, the power is cut so the gate will not open automatically. Do you understand me?”

I nodded, he told me to repeat what he had said. “Uhh, take the service hallways to the garage, choose a big enough car to ram the gate and get out. Where should I go when I get out?”

“It doesn’t matter, just get far away from here. We will contact you when it’s safe.”

“Contact me? How? I have no phone, nothing.”

“The vehicle, bello, we will track the vehicle, just don’t leave it for too long.”

He had handed me a bag and a gun. “Go, run, now.” He pushed me out of the closet and ordered me to exit the room and enter the hidden doorway right next to the room, which was the service hallways. I ran as quickly as I could, I fumbled along until I found a sign for the garage. I opened the door slowly and entered the garage. I found a large SUV and got in, the keys were not in the car. Shit!

I looked around the room, it was lit only by moonlight. I heard gunshots in the house and ducked down to the floor, they sounded so close! I waited for a few moments before I stood back up. I looked around the room for a box or anything that would hold car keys.

I started to walk but was pushed into the SUV. “Don’t move.” A deep voice ordered. I held myself close to the SUV.

“What do you want from me?”

“Shut up!” A large hand smacked me across the face. I fell at the impact.

“God you’re an asshole.” I started laughing, I couldn’t help myself.

“Get up, whore.” He kicked me in the stomach. God what was this all about?

I slowly got up and leaned against the SUV. “What do you want from me?” I asked again.

“I have a message from Jesus Hernandez.” He drew his gun. “Goodbye.” He said before shooting me in the abdomen. I screamed in pain and fell to the floor. The moonlight was fading out of the room. I heard gunshots all around me, but I faded quickly. I was soon in a deep, exhausting, sleep.

**Maximo**

“Where the fuck is she? And get the clean up crew in here to clean this the fuck up!” I ordered at one of my gun men. What a fucking mess. Who the hell ordered this? An attack on my home? This meant war.

“Find my fucking wife!” I threw my glass across the room. “Where the fuck is Joe and where is my bourbon?” I started to walk towards the kitchen, stepping over dead bodies along the way.

“Here, boss.” Spoke a deep voice. “I have searched the servant tunnels to the garage where I found a puddle of blood. It my be Fallon’s.”

“Well, where the fuck is she? There is a puddle of blood but no body? Explain that?”

“We are searching, boss.” Julio spoke up.

I turned towards him with rage in my eyes. “I want her fucking found, now!” I had broken my new bourbon glass. “Son of a bitch! Get me another drink!” I screamed at whoever would listen. Where the fuck is my pregnant wife?

“Boss!” I heard from outside. “Boss!” I took off running for the front door. I swung it open and ran out into the front garden.

That’s when I saw, her. Covered in blood, barely breathing. “Do something!” I yelled at the men. “Do something, now!” They scrambled to pick her up.

Julio and Monte ran out the door when they heard me yelling. “Oh, santa mierda.” Julio yelled, running over to the limp body of my wife.

How could almost all of my men get out of this gun fight without a scratch, but my wife got shot? What the fuck happened?

“Get the doctor.” I order Monte who quickly pulled out his phone and the keys to one of the SUVs. “Take her to the car.” I ordered Julio and the bodyguards. Julio picked Fallon up bridal style and carried her into the garage, setting her in one of the SUVs.

“She’s still breathing, boss. We need to go now, she’s losing to much blood. I jumped in the driver’s seat without hesitating, pulling out of the garage quickly. I stopped to let Monte and Joe in before heading out of the gate.

I drove fast through the dark dusty streets until I made it to Dr. Omello’s private office. He was already there opening the garage door. I looked around noticing he had called in an entire surgical team, including Dr. Blaine, Fallon’s OBGYN.

“Get the stretcher!” he pointed at one of the scrub techs. “Start an IV!” He pointed to another. “Put her on the cardiac monitor!” He yelled at another. They all obliged without hesitation. Dr. Blaine helped Julio get Fallon out of the SUV onto the stretcher. She had put a body monitor on Fallon before turning to Dr. Omello.

Dr. Omello waved his hand to the bodyguards who quickly grabbed me, Julio, Monte, and Joe and escorted us to a private waiting room.

Now, we wait.
