Arthur's hand shook as he stood in front of another car. This was the fifth car he was checking.
The clothes he wore stank. He had taken them from the storage room he'd seen the staff walk into, but he had no way of knowing they were dirty.
He didn't have a lot of options, nor time, so he had to settle for the sweaty clothes that had clearly been worn by some filthy Alpha moments before he picked them up.
He had brought a spare car key with him. The problem was Alpha Davian had brought too many cars so his getaway was taking too long.
He had waited two weeks for his chance; he was not going to wait any longer. It didn't help that the entire time he felt like he was sitting on a time bomb while waiting for Layla to expose him to Davian.
This way he could save his skin and get enough money to run to a different town with the love of his life. The problem was he didn't expect it to take this long to execute his plans.
Davian never left her side, and when he did, men always guarded her. Even when she went shopping a few days ago, she was surrounded. There was no way he would have been able to get her without drawing attention.
The worst part was the more time dragged on, the louder the bomb got.
He had taken a big gamble and hadn't expected it to work. Taking one of the spare keys of the car and hiding in the boot. He had been worried he would be found when searches were conducted but Alpha Nolan didn't check.
He hoped he still had this luck when he exited the building. As soon as he drove out of here he would be free.
Melissa already had it set up. They were to leave the town immediately. There, they would ransom Davian and after they got the money they would leave.
Melissa had even suggested selling Layla off to traffickers. Arthur wasn't completely against the idea. As long as he never saw Layla again.
However, despite his suppression, a part of him was still terribly bothered that Melissa could easily sell her child off. Distrust rose in his chest but he had to do this because Alpha Davian was bound to kill him if he ever found out about all the things he said to his mate.
Layla deserved to be sold off; after all, she was the reason he was in this mess in the first place.
"Yes," he let out a joyful noise as the car unlocked.
At long last, he had finally found the car the spare key belonged to. All he had to do now was unlock the boot, throw her in there and drive out of here.
If they were suspicious of him and wouldn't let him through, he could easily drive through them as long as there was enough space to get out.
Waiting in the women's restroom had been the worst part of this whole endeavor. He had no way of knowing if she would actually use it and alone for that matter.
So when she finally stepped in alone, he nearly dropped to his knees and thanked the Goddess. He used a concrete block he had picked from outside to knock her unconscious.
Then he threw her and the concrete block into the trash bin. He made sure nothing was amiss and stepped out of the restroom avoiding the cameras.
Arthur was about to open the car door when he heard a click behind his head like the safety being taken off a gun. The muzzle was placed directly at the back of his head.
"Don't you dare move," the voice said.
Arthur felt his blood freeze. He recognized the voice. It was Daniel. He was certain that the car area was empty and before they checked it, it would take a while.
Did he not leave the car? Also, how could he have seen him in the dark?
Arthur's mind spun as he rapidly thought of a way to get out of this situation. He was caught, it was over but at least he could escape with his life.
Alpha Davian had just paid off the debt plus interest that Anthony Oliver Hall had been owing him for so long; he could use that for some time.
Wait a minute!
He was almost out of here. All he needed to do was open the car, throw her body in and he would be out of the mansion. He couldn't give up now; he was so close to his dream.
"Slowly step backwards,” Daniel added.
Arthur wasn't unarmed. It would be foolish of him to go against a Mafia King without any weapon. There was one in his jacket right now. He took a step back and slowly reached into his jacket.
"Stop!" Daniel ordered as he noticed what he was doing. "Hands up."
Arthur smirked to himself. "Too late."
He spun and shot the driver point-blank in the face but Daniel was faster. He shot Arthur in the arm just as he pulled the trigger, offsetting his aim so the bullet shot past his ear.
Arthur screamed as the gun fell out of his hand. The pain was unbearable. It was as if someone had sliced his arm open and shoved a million bullet ants that continually stung him.
Daniel kicked away the gun from his reach and leaned down to check that he didn't have any other weapons on him.
The gunshot had drawn attention and from the voices he could hear, the Mafia Kings were getting closer.
He grabbed the screaming man by the leg and pulled him away from the corner of the car towards the light.
Daniel barely had any idea what was going on. He had been sitting in his car, following Alpha Davian's orders when he got the text message that Layla was missing and to search for her.
He didn't stir. He knew better than to contradict his orders except when given explicit orders to do so by Alpha Davian.
Suddenly, he heard an odd sound like keys. He couldn't quite be sure but they kept getting closer and closer in the low light.
At this point, he stepped out of the car he was in quietly. Only to hear a voice joyfully say "yes." He immediately pulled out his gun and pointed it at the man's head.
Daniel could feel his blood dripping onto his shoulders where he had been shot but he didn’t care He let go of his leg just as Alpha Davian got close enough.
