Chapter 71 Jealousy
Chapter 71 Jealousy
Lily had no choice but to change her mind and said somewhat awkwardly, "Thanks, I could use a hand. Just help me get her to the door."
"No problem. It's nothing. Besides, I've known Olivia for many years. She often mentions you. It's just that you used to be the most beautiful woman in Harmony City, and our social circles were different, so we never had a chance to meet. I didn't expect..."
Armando suddenly realized he'd said the wrong thing and quickly shut his mouth. It was his fault—he'd had a bit too much to drink and wasn't thinking before speaking.
Now he'd brought up Lily's painful past. Lily must be upset.
But Lily didn't seem to mind. She smiled indifferently. Never mind outsiders—even she herself hadn't expected to be betrayed by her most trusted family and fiancé.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay, it's all in the past. Actually, this whole ordeal turned out to be a good thing. Otherwise, how would I have figured out who really cares about me? You used to be Olivia's friend, but from now on, you're my friend too."
"Alright, my new friend."
The two of them helped Olivia walk out together. With a good friend on each side, Olivia seemed to have completely forgotten about Lloyd. Like she'd been injected with adrenaline, she threw her arms around their necks. "Tonight, neither of you is leaving! Stay with me! I'll treat you to some male models! Ten each—is that enough?"
Lily looked at Armando somewhat awkwardly and explained, "She's had too much to drink. She's not usually like this."
Armando naturally knew what she was like and didn't mind. He just held back his laughter, planning to tease her about this next time they met.
What Armando didn't take seriously, however, reached another man's ears.
"What? Ten male models?"
A deep, magnetic voice suddenly came from nearby, with obvious displeasure in its tone.
Lily turned to look. David was standing not far away, tall and upright in a well-tailored black suit that made his presence even more commanding. Behind him was his assistant, Willie.
"Samuel?" Lily was startled, then her tone became somewhat cold. "What are you doing here?"
David keenly noticed the change in her attitude and frowned slightly. But right now, he was more concerned about the fact that his wife seemed to be on good terms with a strange man.
"I came to pick you up."
He walked forward, his gaze falling on Armando. "And you are?"
Lily noticed the wariness in his eyes and found it somewhat amusing, but thinking about what happened during the day, she felt there was nothing to explain.
It was Armando who spoke first: "Hello, I'm Armando from Celestial Treasures. Ms. Martin is a very talented designer. I had the pleasure of meeting her today."
He extended his hand in a friendly gesture for a handshake.
David looked at his outstretched hand, and only after two seconds did he shake it coldly, releasing it quickly. "Thank you for looking after my wife."
Though the words were polite, the possessiveness and distance in his tone were impossible to ignore.
Armando was a smart man and immediately understood the other party's attitude. He smiled and said, "Well, I'll be going then. Lily, let's stay in touch."
"Okay, and thank you so much for today," Lily said politely.
After Armando left, David's expression grew even darker.
"Stay in touch? And ten male models? Lily, you're having quite a good time."
Lily frowned. "Olivia was drunk—she was talking nonsense. And Armando is just Olivia's friend. He was kind enough to help today."
"Is that so?" David stepped forward, trying to take her hand.
But Lily instinctively stepped back, avoiding his touch.
David's hand froze in mid-air, a flash of hurt in his eyes. "Lily?"
"Olivia needs rest. If you're willing to help, come with me to get her to an upstairs room. If you're not willing to help, please move aside."
David turned to Willie. "Go book a room, then carry Ms. Smith upstairs."
"Yes, sir," Willie responded respectfully.
Soon, Willie returned after booking the room. He walked over to Olivia, looking at David somewhat helplessly.
"Carry her up," David said flatly.
He didn't want to touch Olivia himself—first to avoid any misunderstanding, and second because he didn't want to touch any woman besides Lily. Even if she were her best friend, it wasn't happening.
Willie had no choice but to carry Olivia on his back and head toward the elevator. Lily followed behind, with David walking beside her.
In the elevator, the atmosphere was somewhat silent.
David tried several times to hold Lily's hand, but she avoided him each time.
"Lily. Are you angry with me?"
"No." Lily's tone was calm, her eyes on the elevator display.
"You clearly are. Is it because of Armando?"
"What does this have to do with Armando?" Lily remained cold.
David felt somewhat agitated. Lily was the one who came to the bar first, and he was the one who had every right to pick her up and take her home. How had he become the one who needed to apologize?!
What exactly was Lily angry about?
When they reached the room, Willie carefully placed Olivia on the bed, then tactfully left.
Lily immediately began taking care of Olivia—taking off her shoes, covering her with a blanket, then going to the bathroom to get warm water to wipe her face. Throughout the whole process, she didn't glance at David once.
David stood to the side, watching Lily bustle about, feeling increasingly uncomfortable.
"Lily." He called out.
"What?" Lily responded without looking up, still wiping Olivia's hands.
"You're tired today. Let the hotel staff take care of her." David said.
"No, Olivia drank this much because of me. I need to take care of her myself."
David's expression grew even darker. He'd rarely taken the initiative to pick her up, yet she was completely focused on Olivia, leaving him, her husband, on the sidelines.
"Lily." He called again, with obvious dissatisfaction in his tone.
"Just sit for a bit. I'll be done soon." Lily still didn't look up as she helped Olivia with her shoes.
David suppressed the urge to pull her over. He walked to the sofa and sat down, his long legs crossed, his whole person radiating an aura of unapproachability.
After a long while, Lily finally got Olivia settled. She wiped the sweat from her forehead and turned to look at David.
"You can go now. I'm staying here tonight to keep Olivia company."
David stood up abruptly. "You're staying overnight?"
"Yes. Olivia is very upset right now. I can't leave her alone."
"Willie can stay outside. You're coming home with me."
Lily turned her face away. "No need. You go back. I don't want to go home."
David grabbed her wrist. "Lily. What exactly are you angry about? Tell me, and we'll talk it through."
Lily finally looked up at him, a flash of hurt and grievance in her eyes. "You're asking me what I'm angry about? When I was at the awards ceremony today, being falsely accused of plagiarism by Haven, where were you?"
David froze.
