Chapter 190: Slaying Laurent

Chapter 190: Slaying Laurent

Jaxon's hand tightened violently. A suffocating pressure instantly engulfed Laurent.

His face flushed crimson, contorted in agony.

Seeing the murderous intent blazing in Jaxon's eyes, Laurent finally panicked. He used every ounce of strength left in him to beg for mercy.

"No, please don't kill me! If you spare me, everything I have is yours—I'll give you the next family head position!"

"Including all my assets—you can have it all! Just please, let me live!"

He pleaded with everything he had, but Jaxon's grip didn't loosen by even a fraction. In fact, it only tightened.

"You don't get to bargain with me. I don't want anything you have."

Seeing that this tactic wasn't working, Laurent was truly terrified now.

Panic flooded his face. Desperation filled his eyes.

"Your parents left behind quite a few things back then. Kill me, and you'll never find out where they are. Think carefully!"

Even now, he was trying to threaten him. Jaxon let out a cold laugh.

"You really think I don't know where they are?"

The killing intent in Jaxon's eyes intensified. A single look made Laurent's face drain of color.

"What do you mean?"

"Don't ask so many questions. A dead man doesn't need to know."

With that, Jaxon didn't give him a chance to speak. His hand exerted force in an instant.

Laurent's neck snapped.

His eyes went wide. He took his last breath, filled with unwillingness.

Jaxon's gaze remained ice-cold. He tossed the body aside carelessly and turned away.

The remaining researchers witnessed the scene. Terror washed over their faces.

Fear gripped them. Cold sweat beaded on their foreheads. They dropped to their knees.

"Spare us! We were just following his orders—this has nothing to do with us! Please let us go!"

They kowtowed desperately. But Jaxon's eyes stayed cold, his expression completely blank.

"You people helped him do evil for years. You don't deserve to live."

A cold gleam flashed in his eyes. He drew a knife and charged straight at them.

Their eyes went wide. Panic seized their faces.

"No!"

They frantically waved their hands. But Jaxon didn't stop for a second. His blade rose and fell—one slash, straight to the throat.

Blood sprayed. They didn't even have time to react before they collapsed, lifeless.

After finishing them off, Jaxon finally withdrew his hand and walked out.

Outside, Nightshade had already cleared out the enemy forces. Seeing Jaxon emerge, she quickly approached, holding a wooden box.

"General Storm, this is what you asked for. Everyone else has been eliminated."

Jaxon nodded and took the wooden box from Nightshade.

When he opened it, inside was a key and a yellowed photograph.

The photo showed the only picture he had with his parents—back when he was still a baby in their arms.

Looking at the photograph, Jaxon's nose stung. Tears welled up in the corners of his eyes.

A few seconds later, Jaxon pushed down the emotions and picked up the key.

Confusion crossed his face as he examined it from all angles.

He'd never seen this key before. His parents had never left him anything. He couldn't figure out what this key was supposed to mean.

His brow furrowed. He fell into deep thought.

Just as he was puzzling over it, a voice suddenly came from behind.

"I know what that is."

Hearing the voice, Jaxon instinctively turned around.

Someone was cowering timidly around the corner. His face was filled with fear. He raised both hands, swallowing hard repeatedly. His eyes held deep wariness as he looked at Jaxon.

With just one glance, Jaxon recognized him—one of Laurent's most loyal lackeys, Chase.

He'd helped Laurent commit countless atrocities. Jaxon had thought this guy was already dead. He hadn't expected him to survive until now.

Though Jaxon had already mentally sentenced him to death, he didn't rush to act. He asked coldly, "What is it?"

Under his gaze, Chase said tremblingly, "I can tell you, but you have to let me go!"

His expression was tense. Jaxon nodded.

"Fine. As long as the information you give me is useful, I'll spare you."

Hearing this, Chase's eyes lit up immediately, though suspicion quickly followed.

"But how can I trust you?"

Before he could finish speaking, Jaxon impatiently cut him off.

"You're not in a position to negotiate. Do as I say, or die right here."

One look from Jaxon made his heart leap into his throat.

"Wait! I'll take you there!"

He scrambled to his feet, eyes filled with unease.

Following his lead, they entered a hidden chamber.

Jaxon had originally thought what he'd already seen represented the full extent of the Storm family's resources. He hadn't expected there to be even more hidden here.

The items inside were several times more numerous than what was outside.

"That bastard Laurent—he hid it deep enough."

Jaxon's eyes were cold. Chase was panicking, not daring to breathe too loudly.

"We're here!"

Jaxon frowned, scanning the surroundings. Confusion showed on his face.

"Where's what you mentioned?"

His gaze was sharp. Chase flinched all over and quickly pointed to a safe nearby.

"I once saw Laurent put a wooden box in there. It seemed really important—it should be related to that key in your hand."

Hearing this, Jaxon locked his gaze on the safe.

"What's the password?"

Under his stare, Chase shook his head repeatedly.

"I don't know!"

The moment those words left his mouth, Jaxon's expression turned ice-cold. "What did you say?"

Jaxon's gaze was piercing. Chase's heart raced with panic, but he still shook his head.

"I'm really not lying to you—everything I've said is true. Only Laurent had access to this vault. I only saw it once. I have no idea what the password is."

Hearing this, Jaxon's displeasure showed.

"Useless. Now I have to waste my energy."

With one look from Jaxon, Nightshade immediately stepped forward and began cracking the code.

Within seconds, Nightshade succeeded.

"General Storm, done."

Hearing this, Jaxon nodded.

Inside the vault was a wooden box, and his key fit it perfectly.

When he opened it, inside was a vial of serum. But both its aura and color were completely different from what the Storm family had previously created.

Though he didn't know what it meant, if his parents had left it behind, it must serve some purpose.

Seeing that he'd obtained what he came for, Chase said tensely, "Now that you have what you wanted, can you let me go?"

His face was pleading. Jaxon glanced at him.

"Fine. Get lost."

Hearing this, Chase let out a long breath of relief and bolted.

Watching him flee, Jaxon said nothing. He turned and gave Nightshade a look.

Nightshade understood immediately. She stepped forward and drove her blade straight through him.

Blood gushed out. Chase's body went rigid. He collapsed to the ground.
