Chapter 13
I turned abruptly to whoever it had been, only to find Davis standing as well as pocketing his hands with an evil smirk on the ends of his lips. Now I understood why I recognized his voice very quickly, he stood still waiting for my reply that he had concluded to be delirious. I wondered where I could start and yet everyone seemed to be on their business. I chinned up to speak but then I noticed something very unlikely, he had been staring at me sexily and yet with a smirk. Did he like what he was seeing or what, I did it for him; not completely but it had always been about Davis and no one else.
I folded my lips and then my lips parted to speak. Firstly, I looked around and then stopped at his incomprehensible gaze, with my fingers entwined below my waistline.
"Yeah, Uhm...no...yes..no...I just...I was just waiting for someone. Yeah, someone!" I nodded lightly trying to coax him even if it seemed unnecessary, he scoffed and laughed. I could never shock this guy, could I? Embarrassed.
"How about I be your partner for the night? Seems like you're the only one without a partner, it is not like you have a choice. Do you?!" He sarcastically said, he delighted joy in picking on me. I looked around and everyone seemed to be with their partners, as a man screamed.
"Three minutes more!"
"No don't... don't bother about that," I declined respectively, he had been staring at me in a daunting manner ever since.
"I'm not asking you, I'm telling you what it is. What do I need your permission for?!" He stepped closer and grabbed me by the arm, with a bit of pressure on his grip. We joined the circle and I sighted Lacey, she stared at me questionably with a bit of surprise in her eyes then I shook my head lightly but negatively, demonstrating that it hadn't been my idea. He released my arm then I massaged it tenderly. He had just hurt me but it felt normal and bearable. How Oblivious! His touch was unpleasant but my mind couldn't stop racing, I felt intrigued to have been this close to him, then I wondered how I would feel if he eventually touches me deliberately. Poor Claudia. I was heating up profusely, both inside and out, it was obvious that I was nervous.
"Did you just try to impress me, Virgin Mary? You worked too hard and still, nothing worked. You look so fucked up, I mean why did you take off your costume? It looks deliriously fitting to your personality, you disgust my guts." He said under his breath, to my hearing as we both watched as the game played on.
There were just two couples before our turn and here he was trying to break me down, well it already did. What was I even thinking when I decided to look like this? I sighed out with so much distress, it sucks and hurts.
"You are wrong," I blurted out before o could rethink.
"Are you speaking to me?" A thicker frown settled on his face and I hated it. "You suck bitch, you suck." He blurted out with distaste while I held tightly onto my arms swallowing up.
There has been no awkward partner, it had been kiss and kiss. We walked into the middle and most students cheered him on, it got me thinking about where Sherry had been but it didn't matter to me. I wanted to have my moment, Davis and I.
"Go on, ask her a question or she would ask you instead." The instructor who was a non-academic staff said. I had never been in such a crowd before, I mean with the eyes fixed on us, Davis precisely. This was exactly the kind of crowd my parents would project as unholy.
"In case you are short of questions, I've got a bunch to ask your dirty ass." He stated while I shrieked inside of me, but outside I tried to gain composure. "Just ask!" I snapped and then the instructor reminded us that we had just two minutes or we'd both get eliminated.
"Why do you hate me?" I blurted out under my breath but he heard it. He stared at me like he had seen something unusual, get smirked. That smirk. His smirk questioned my guts. It got me on the edge, I didn't have to be told that it was going to be dreadful soon, I mean his expression said it all.
"She wanna know why I hate her..." He blurted out to the crowd "Ask your question, Mr. Watkins," the instructor snapped. "You got one minute.
"Well," He turned to me and asked. "Why do you stink like SIN when you claim not to be UNHOLY?" Everyone busted out in laughter and I felt damned. Was he trying to drag me into the mud at this time? I needed to go six feet under, it was unbearable. "You both are eliminated," the instructor dismissed us as Davis reluctantly interrupted.
"No, it's a question Sirrr! She's got to answer my question or I'd hit it." He said almost raising his voice while some students cheered him on as he smirked staring at me intently.
"You didn't answer her question, Mr. Watkins." The instructor reminded firmly but it was as though the instructor wasn't speaking.
"She knows my answer damn right," he snapped sarcastically as others screamed 'hit' and others screamed 'kiss'. Lacey was dismayed as she beckoned at me to come to her while Tiffany screamed from the crowd.
"Fuck you, Davis, what the hell!" He raised his both middle fingers at her then I ran out of sight, it was best for both of us. I suspected that if I hung around, he'd hit me because Davis would never want to kiss me. Not in the slightest moment. The longer I stayed the longer he made a dirty joke out of me, the more I added steps, the more the crowd cheered him on. I instinctively turned back around and there; he was kissing another girl.
My heart broke.
He had no shame.
He didn't feel remorseful even though he had rained insults on me, knowing fully well that I liked him very much.
Lacey had been calling my phone but I had to ignore them all, I ran to the roadside and stopped a cab. It was almost 7 pm with nothing more than five minutes. I hadn't even realized the time when tears rolled down my cheeks then I quickly rubbed them off. I gave my address to the driver as we zoomed off, he didn't stop there he began to get nosey as well asking questions. He had asked if my date got ruined earlier before now and I told him not at all.
"I just got terrible news but it's fine now," I said and he nodded curtly.
"Whoever put you in this state is a fuckin idiot, a pretty girl like you deserves more!" The man around his fifties comforted me and I felt partly better. I looked through the window thinking about earlier. I wish that I hadn't accepted Tiffany's proposal, even though I knew that Davis was going to be there. I did have a hunch that things wouldn't go so well tonight. I repeatedly reminded myself of how stupid and unwise I had been to think that I could handle everything. The way he stared at me weakened my system. I hadn't realized that we arrived in my neighborhood, I handed him some cash as he blurted out softly.
"Be yourself pretty, you deserve better than this." He stated and I nodded curtly then he handed me his card.
"Just in case you wanna talk about something, I'm harmless!" He added them I collected the card and gave a couple of smiles then I stepped out of the car and watched him zoom off steadily.
I attempted to walk into the apartment but then I felt the cold breeze hit my thighs and arms, I looked around and realized that I wasn't dressed in the same manner I had left my house.
"Oh god!" I blurted frustratingly I had thought about calling Raphael but then he'd think that I wanted something from him instead. I sat on the stairway and hugged my knees, praying that Tiffany would instantly show up. Regardless, I would have to wait and I couldn't tell for how long she'd be out there. I couldn't stop cursing this day.
In less than ten minutes, I sighted Raphael's car pulling over at the driveway. Tiffany stepped out of the car like she had been chased by an infected dog as I sprang to my feet. She ran towards the stairway where I stood.
“Claude I'm sorry..." She began as I interrupted
"Iffy not right now okay, I've got to be in my house. Besides it wasn't your fault one bit. It was my fault to think that Davis would ever be nice to me!" I spilled my mind regardless of the rush. She placed her hand on my shoulder with so much sympathy in her eyes and I hated that fact. I didn't want pity.
“Alright, let's just get you changed and we'd talk about it later. Right?" She said "Right!" I snapped nervously I changed into my actual outfit and wiped my makeup, I headed to my apartment's doorstep. I had been thinking twice, I wondered whether or not to press the doorbell then I opted for the back door. I walked around the apartment and sneaked through it, it was unlocked. My parents had been seeing the headlines then I stealthily took a step, the second, the third, and the fourth...
"And where do you think you're going to, Claudia?" Father asked. They stared at me, and the disappointment on their faces glared; I didn't have to be told that I was busted. I looked up and down and sideways but help wasn't forthcoming.
"I'm asking you Claudia, where are you coming from?" He yelled out and I got startled. I yelped, I didn't know how to answer his question.
"You're grounded!" He added sternly as he walked away. Mother had wanted to intervene but she too, didn't want to add to the heat.
