Chapter 314 Her Smile Is Terrifying

Chapter 314 Her Smile Is Terrifying

After Lily finished all this, she looked at the furious David. " It was Sophie who asked you to buy things, not me."

"Lily, are you crazy? Even if I remembered wrong, how could you throw it in my face?"

David was on the verge of losing his temper. He took the tissue Geraldo handed him and wiped his face.

Lily smiled. "Well, now you should remember—it’s Sophie who likes this, not me. You should be thanking me!"

When Lily saw the taxi arrive, she bent down and got in.

David shouted angrily, "Lily, get out of the car! I still have questions for you. Did you intentionally invite Emily to The Velvet Vine that day?"

Lily glanced out of the car window. "You’ve been pretty quiet about the fact that Emily and I are roommates."

"I didn't deliberately hide this from you. How was I supposed to know Emily didn't tell you who she was?"

David sounded slightly guilty. "But you should have told me in advance that you were bringing Emily to dinner."

If she had told him beforehand, David certainly wouldn’t have allowed the events of that day to happen.

Lily's eyes were mocking. "If I told you in advance, I wouldn't have gotten to see that good show. I should thank Sophie for this, too. She actually had the audacity to secretly wear someone else's dress. Anyone unaware might suspect that Sophie was having an affair with you."

"Lily, did you tell Emily that Sophie and I have something going on?"

No wonder Emily had been so distant toward him these past few days.

The Al project was currently at a critical stage for investment. He couldn't lose the West family's support.

David's tone grew noticeably sterner. "I advise you to keep your mouth shut and stop talking nonsense."

"Well, I’d advise you against aiming for a higher match. You're not cut out for it."

When David heard "not cut out for it," he angrily reached out to pull Lily out of the car, but the taxi driver hit the gas and drove off.

Lily couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of David’s furious expression.

At that moment, Lily's phone rang. She didn't even need to look—she knew exactly who was calling.

Lily hung up without answering.

When the car arrived outside Maple Leaf Corporation, Lily went upstairs straight to the technical department. She needed to discuss the technical problems the team was currently facing, many of which still required extensive testing.

After Lily arrived at the office, the team leader smiled and said, "It’s been a while! I heard your team won the preliminary round—congratulations."

"Thanks."

All her colleagues knew Lily was a gaming streamer.

Lily sat at her computer and began running tests on the data. The team leader next to her said, "I heard the Roberts Group is also developing an AI project, constantly benchmarking against our company's products."

Lily paused. "Didn't they fail the bid?"

Back then, Austin's team disbanded, and Peter's situation came to light, although she eventually agreed not to press charges regarding the car accident.

But the damage had already done, and David's side had actually lost a significant amount of money.

Did they still have the funds to invest in an AI project?

"That's right. I heard they secured an investment and are even partnering with an overseas company to jointly develop the AI project together."

Lily thought about it. This situation was already very different from her previous life.

Previously, Michael's company had invested everything in the AI project, and she had helped as well. They won the bid and eventually went public successfully.

But no matter what, Maple Leaf Corporation currently had the advantage.

Someone approached Lily and said, "The boss wants you in the office. Everyone is to meet in the conference room in ten minutes."

Lily looked at the data she had just debugged and had a pretty good idea of what the problem was.

She went straight to the office with the printed documents.

But when she saw Dennis seated in the chair, her pupils constricted—she had thought it was Eric.

He was wearing a formal suit, buttoned up meticulously, exuding a restrained, composed aura.

She couldn’t help but admit that Dennis looked exceptionally sharp in the suit.

He looked up at her, his deep gaze fixed on her. "Why are you standing at the door? Afraid I'll eat you? Come in."

Lily entered the office carrying the documents, deliberately leaving the door open.

The office was empty except for the two of them.

Lily walked over and placed the documents on the desk. "Here are the data issues compiled over this period, along with some optimization recommendations."

Dennis reached out to take them. She noticed his fingers were long and attractive.

But after taking the documents, he didn't look at them. His placed his fingers on top of the documents, slowly rubbing them back and forth.

Lily glanced at him in surprise. What exactly did he mean by that?

The two made eye contact.

Dennis's gaze fell on Lily as well. He noticed she was wearing a short skirt today, her straight, slender legs almost dazzling.

His voice grew unsteady. "Last night..."

"You don't need to explain to me about last night."

Lily guessed what he wanted to say and cut him off directly.

She recalled leaving The Velvet Vine in the car last night and seeing Olivia appear behind Dennis. She tried hard not to think about what they might have talked about afterward.

Dennis's gaze darkened considerably. He had spent the entire night thinking that when he saw her today, he would have to explain everything clearly.

But now she seemed covered in thorns, completely untouchable.

He could only coax her.

Afraid that if he provoked her, she'd talk about breaking up again. Dennis couldn't stand hearing that word now.

He asked in a low voice, "Still angry?"

"What do I have to be angry about? I'm not the one who got slapped in the face anyway."

Lily looked at him confidently, her face showing no extra expression, putting on an act of not caring.

"Really not?"

Dennis stood up and moved closer to her.

Lily stepped back a bit, reminding him, "This is an office."

As soon as she finished speaking, Dennis turned and walked over to close the door, even locking it.

Lily heard the locking sound, and her heart trembled too. What did he want to do?

Dennis came in front of her, looking down into her eyes. Before, when her emotions showed, she was easy to read.

But now, sometimes he couldn't figure out what she was thinking.

He lowered his voice and started explaining, "I personally clarified yesterday that I don't have an engagement with Olivia."

They were very close, at a distance that was somewhat ambiguous.

Lily restrained herself and turned her head away, making a sound of acknowledgment.

Dennis was stunned, not expecting this reaction from her.

He felt somewhat defeated. "Lily, what will it take for you to stop being angry?"

She couldn't be touched, couldn't be talked to.

Lily's eyes curved with a smile. "I don't know."

With that smile, Dennis felt like his heart had been stabbed.

Lily turned to the side and left his vicinity, walking toward the office door.

His gaze fell on her slender legs, and he couldn't help but pull her back. "Why are you in such a hurry to leave? I haven't finished talking."

Lily's hands pressed against his chest. She lowered her eyelids. "Let go first, then talk."

Dennis said sullenly, "Don't wear such short skirts to work anymore."

Lily thought to herself: 'You're managing way too much.'

Lily's rebellious psychology kicked in. She looked up and deliberately said, "Does it look good?"

He nodded honestly. "It looks good."

But he didn't want other men looking.

"Then that's settled. I'll wear whatever I want."

He didn't need to manage it.

Dennis looked away slightly, cursing himself internally for being so bewitched by a young girl.

And yet he was willing.

Dennis finally said helplessly, "There's an industry exchange meeting this afternoon. David will probably be there too. His moves have been a bit high-profile lately."

"People with real ability don't need to be high-profile." Lily's tone was quite confident.

Dennis chuckled softly. "I'll go with you this afternoon."

Lily froze. "But at the industry exchange meeting, won't people recognize you?"

Only then did she remember that Dennis had never attended these kinds of activities with her before. It must be to hide his identity!

Dennis looked serious. "Yes."

"Aren't you afraid David will find out?"

"The one who should be afraid is him, not me." Dennis's tone was quite arrogant.
