Chapter 307 Who Told You to Hold So Tight?

Chapter 307 Who Told You to Hold So Tight?

Seeing Dennis's grim expression, Lily felt a bit satisfied.

She turned around and headed toward the elevator.

Soon, she heard steady footsteps following behind her. She didn't need to guess who it was.

The elevator doors opened, and Lily walked in. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Dennis following her in, standing right beside her.

They stood next to each other, with about a fist's width of space between them.

The elevator was very quiet. Lily looked up and saw their reflections on the elevator doors. Their eyes met, and she immediately lowered her eyelids.

Lily could feel an unavoidable gaze fixed on her, but she just didn't want to look up.

Dennis looked at her helplessly, his eyes resting on her clean profile. He had barely slept these past few days.

Whether his eyes were open or closed, all he could see was her angry face saying they should break up.

He had never been this anxious and frustrated in his entire life, yet he couldn't do anything about her.

Before long, the elevator doors opened.

Dennis hadn't figured out what to say yet when Lily, beside him, walked straight out without looking back.

Frustrated and depressed, he chased after her. "Wait a minute, let me take you home."

"You don't need to bother. There are plenty of taxis here, very convenient." Lily looked back at him, her eyes and attitude both distant.

Dennis felt suffocated. He took a deep breath. "I have something to tell you."

"I think everything that needed to be said has been said." Lily turned to leave, but he pulled her back, and she bumped right into his chest.

She instinctively tried to struggle, but Dennis held her tight.

Lily couldn't help but speak up. "Dennis."

"I'm here."

"You're shameless."

Dennis didn't answer. Shameless was better than losing his girlfriend.

At that moment, a luxury car pulled up beside them, and the window rolled down. "Ms. Roberts."

Lily looked up and saw who was in the car. Her face flushed as she pushed Dennis away. She pushed hard, and since Dennis wasn't prepared, he almost fell to the ground.

Dennis looked a bit disheveled. He turned his head to look at the person in the car and said, "Mrs. Connie West, is there something you need?"

Dennis's eyes showed some displeasure. If Connie hadn't suddenly appeared, he would have already gotten Lily into the car.

Why did someone have to interrupt at this moment?

Connie also noticed the displeasure on Dennis's face and realized she had probably interrupted something. But she really hadn't noticed earlier that the man hugging Lily was Dennis.

After what happened at The Velvet Vine last time, Celeste should know who the girl Dennis was protecting was. Why hadn't she broken them up yet?

But seeing how protective Dennis was, they probably wouldn't be separated anytime soon.

Connie spoke apologetically to Dennis. "I'm sorry, I didn't notice Mr. Gonzalez was here earlier. I have something I want to say to Ms. Roberts."

Lily was a bit curious about what Connie wanted to tell her.

She had only met Connie once before.

She walked over. "What did you want to say, Mrs. West?"

"I heard the Roberts family has an adopted daughter named Sophie, and she seems to have a good relationship with your brothers. Your brother David has cleaned up her messes several times."

Hearing Connie's words, Lily could roughly guess what she meant.

She smiled. "You probably also know that my parents died in a car accident years ago, and Sophie's father, who was our family's driver, also died. My brother David brought Sophie to the Roberts family and raised her. Their relationship is indeed quite good, and he's always been very protective of her."

"More than protective—ignoring you so much for that, Sophie, and favoring her. If we didn't know Sophie was an adopted sister, you'd think David had feelings for Sophie." Dennis's tone was mocking, and he didn't hesitate to badmouth David and Sophie.

Connie frowned after hearing this. "David doesn't seem like such a foolish man to me."

If he were foolish, the West family wouldn't have agreed to let David marry into the family.

Dennis's eyes were particularly cold. "Mrs. West, if you just investigate a little, you'll know that the favoritism in the Roberts family isn't a rumor—it's all true."

Connie fell silent.

Dennis continued, "Mrs. West, if your family wants to choose a son-in-law, you'd better re-examine his character."

He didn't think David was suitable anyway.

Lily actually felt the same way.

At that moment, Dennis's car had pulled up to the curb.

He pulled Lily into the car.

Lily glanced at Connie's car behind them. "Didn't the West family investigate David's character before, or the Roberts family's situation?"

"Because the Roberts family has always lived in Imperial City, even if they wanted to investigate, they could only find out about your bad reputation."

Dennis turned his head to look at her. "As for character, as long as a man wants to pretend, you can't see through it at all."

But he regretted it as soon as he said it.

Lily raised an eyebrow slightly. "Mr. Gonzalez, you're absolutely right. It seems you know yourself very well."

Dennis had no words.

He answered somewhat uncertainly, "I—I at least don't have any intention of seizing assets."

"That's because you're afraid I'm after your family's power and status, right?"

"What's there to be afraid of? As long as you promise not to be angry and not to break up, I can notarize all my assets in your name, and all property after marriage will be shared."

Lily's face felt hot. She spoke awkwardly, "Who wants to marry you? I want to break up with you."

After hearing "break up," Dennis didn't dare say anything more.

He remained silent and didn't respond. He didn't agree anyway.

Lily turned her head to look out the car window, her eyes falling on his reflection. Her heart felt a bit uncomfortable.

But right now, she couldn't just ignore the fact that he had deceived her.

The car arrived outside the school.

Lily opened the car door and walked away without looking back.

Dennis could only watch her back helplessly, rubbing his temples. He loosened his tie and unbuttoned his shirt collar.

He thought he might have to comfort Lily properly.

But the urgent matter was to stop Celeste from recognizing Lily as her goddaughter. He didn't need another sister.

After Lily returned to the dorm, she was a bit distracted thinking about what had just happened.

She saw Emily had also returned to the dorm and really wanted to ask her what David had explained when he chased after her.

Emily could tell what Lily wanted to ask. She spoke directly, "David explained for a long time, clarifying that he and Sophie don't have any other kind of relationship, that he only treats Sophie as a sister, and that Sophie is about to get engaged to James."

Lily wasn't surprised at all. "You saw for yourself today what the Roberts family is really like."

Emily's eyes were clear. "I've already decided to break up with David."

She didn't like David that much to begin with, but today at The Velvet Vine, she witnessed what happened with her own eyes. Yet David was still lying to her, always taking Sophie's side and blaming Lily for stealing the dress.

This proved that all the previous rumors about Lily being bad were false.

Lily breathed a sigh of relief after hearing this. "I also think you and David aren't suitable. He's a very ambitious person."

He wouldn't stop at being a son-in-law.

David was using Emily.

But as long as Emily could see David for who he really was, things would be much easier. At least she wouldn't be deceived.

Over the next few days, Lily was busy with the team preparing for the campus competition.

On the day of the preliminaries, the sponsors came.

When Lily saw Olivia, she felt a bit dazed for a moment because she remembered the scene when they met at the coffee shop.

At that time, she had been completely stunned, sad, and heartbroken.

Olivia walked over with a smile. "Ms. Roberts, you look much better than before. Girls should look forward. I'm glad to see you've pulled yourself together and started a new life."

Lily stared at Olivia and sneered. "I heard Ms. Harper and the Gonzalez family's happy event is coming soon?"

"This matter has always been kept low-key, but it was still exposed by entertainment reporters."

Olivia tucked her hair behind her ear, showing a smile. "After all, Dennis and I have known each other since childhood. No matter what happens, we're meant to get married."

"Really? Then why did Mrs. Gonzalez say there's no engagement between you two?" After Lily finished speaking, Olivia's expression instantly froze.
