Chapter 304 David Begins to Dislike Sophie
Chapter 304 David Begins to Dislike Sophie
Lily could tell that David was now unhappy with Sophie.
After all, Sophie secretly wearing that dress today had offended Emily.
Lily hadn't expected Sophie to hand over such perfect ammunition, and for Emily to catch her red-handed.
She had originally worried that Emily would be bullied by Sophie, but it turned out Emily could hold her own in a fight.
After a long pause, David finally managed to say, "We'll cancel the adoption soon, and then Sophie will have nothing to do with the Roberts family."
''But you haven't canceled it yet, have you? If words gets out, it'll embarrass the West family, too. People might even think Sophie has something going on with the brothers in your family." Emily didn't hold back.
Given her status and position, if she had to put up with Sophie's nonsense, she wouldn't have survived this long in the West family.
David said through gritted teeth, "I'll handle it."
At this moment, Sophie burst into tears, "David, I've said before that now that I'm an adult, I can move out of the Roberts Mansion to avoid gossip."
Emily snorted coldly, "Your legs work, don't they? If you want to leave, who's stopping you?"
Sophie was caught off guard and lowered her head, crying pitifully.
James felt terrible watching this and cursed, "Someone who hasn't even married into the family yet, what right does she have to act so high and mighty here?"
"I haven't said I want to marry anyone. I don't want anything to do with people like you."
After saying this, Emily turned and left the private room.
David's expression changed immediately. He turned to look at Sophie and James, "I'll deal with you two when I get back!"
David rushed out after her.
Lily was a bit worried about Emily, but when she saw the look Emily gave her, she sat back down.
Just then, the servers brought out the food.
Lily was a bit hungry after watching all that drama, so she picked up her fork and started eating. She had to admit, the food at The Velvet Vine was really good.
As soon as David and Emily left, Sophie stopped crying.
Sophie looked worried, "James, what should we do? Ms. West must be angry, and the Roberts family can't afford to offend the West family."
"Don't worry, I'll talk to David. If David hadn't avoided his responsibility back then, my leg wouldn't have been amputated. He owes me this." James spoke with complete confidence, not feeling there was anything wrong with it. "Besides, Ms. West is disabled. She's lucky to marry such an excellent man as David. Otherwise, who would want her?"
Sophie was stunned. She thought he had a point.
Lily laughed out loud, her eyes full of mockery, "Don't you know that David is a live-in son-in-law to the West family?"
"What live-in son-in-law? Impossible, there's no way David would be a live-in son-in-law."
James was the first to deny it. This was absolutely impossible.
Sophie also found it strange. She looked at Lily, "How do you know this?"
"Last time with Peter's incident, I held a press conference, but it was ruined by the West family. David admitted it himself at that time."
Lily didn't mention that Mark had said it.
When she thought of Mark, she thought of Dennis. They were actually brothers.
That made sense. Mark's attitude toward Dennis was different. She should have noticed something unusual.
Austin was also shocked, "He's actually a live-in son-in-law? David agreed to that?"
After all, with David's proud personality, how could he put up with that kind of treatment?
Lily sneered, "But the Roberts family is nothing compared to the West family. What else could he do but be a live-in son-in-law?"
James was furious, "But Ms. West is disabled. What gives her the right?"
"You're also disabled, aren't you? You're no better than Ms. West." Lily couldn't stand the way James kept calling Emily disabled.
But this comment completely enraged James, who cursed at Lily furiously, "What did you just say? Say it again if you dare!"
Lily put down her fork, "I said you're a disabled person in a wheelchair yourself. What right do you have to keep calling other people disabled?"
"Lily, you jerk, you're actually siding with outsiders against me, you..."
Seeing James getting closer, Lily flipped the table directly. All the food spilled onto James.
A whole steamed fish landed right on James's legs.
James's eyes immediately turned red with anger, "Lily, do you think just because you've grown up, I can't hit you anymore?"
Lily kicked over James's wheelchair, and James fell right into the leftover food, looking completely disheveled.
Lily looked down at him, "Don't think that just because you're disabled, I won't lay a hand on you."
"Lily, treating me like this, aren't you afraid I'll never forgive you?" James's voice changed with anger. He hadn't expected Lily to actually hit him.
Lily raised an eyebrow slightly, "That's exactly what I want."
She didn't care about anything from the Roberts family anymore.
James struggled to get up from the floor. Standing on one leg, he couldn't keep his balance, so he had to look at Sophie.
At this moment, Sophie didn't want to go over at all. She just felt embarrassed.
But now David already had a problem with her. If she didn't hold onto James, how would she maintain her position in the Roberts family in the future?
Sophie had no choice but to walk over reluctantly and hand him a towel first, "James, wipe yourself off."
Lily looked at James, "You'd better think about how to handle things with the West family. If you offend them, the Roberts family going bankrupt will happen quickly. Then forget about your engagement, you'll have trouble even with daily life."
James cursed loudly, "It's all because of you."
Lily shot back, "I wasn't the one who secretly wore the dress."
At this moment, a server walked in, "Who's paying the bill?"
Lily's lips curved slightly as she pointed at James, "He's paying. After all, he was the one who invited everyone to celebrate the engagement."
"I'll pay, I'll pay." James patted himself down, then said awkwardly, "I forgot my wallet. I don't have my credit card on me."
Sophie felt embarrassed. "What should we do then?"
"I thought David would be here, so I could just put it on his tab, right?"
James hadn't expected David to leave without settling the bill. He looked at the server and said, "You know my brother David, right? Just put it on his tab. No need to make this complicated."
"I'm sorry, our restaurant doesn't do tabs."
The server walked up to James, "Cash or card?"
James's face turned red. He could only look at Austin, "Austin, pay the bill for me first. I'll pay you back later."
Austin said flatly, "Sophie got my team disbanded. I owe a ton of money. To avoid jail, I have to pay Maple Leaf Corporation compensation, too. Where would I get the money?"
James was getting angry, "Then use your credit card."
"My credit card is maxed out. Since you and Sophie are engaged, let her pay the bill." Austin definitely wasn't going to pay a cent.
James got angry and looked directly at Lily, "Then you pay. You ate the most anyway."
Lily's red lips curved, "Then beg me."
