Chapter 214Give Me the Clues from the Car Accident Years Ago
David said in a gloomy tone, "Now it's your turn to beg me."
He still vividly remembered what happened at Maple Leaf Corporation last time, when Lily actually forced him to beg her.
David had been holding onto that grudge, and now it was finally his turn to say those words.
He thought Lily could hold out longer.
Lily said coldly, "No, this time you're still the one begging me."
David snorted, "Lily, I've been patient with you again and again. But if you're going to be this difficult, then get out of the company now, so Mom and Dad won't be upset when they find out."
Lily glanced around the office.
She immediately spotted the calligraphy her father had personally written: "Heaven rewards diligence."
Lily didn't move. "But this time, you're the one who asked me to come."
"I asked you to come? Don't be ridiculous. Why would I ask you to come! Just leave. I have work to do later. Without your firewall code, I can find someone capable of rewriting it for me."
David's expression was mocking. "Nothing is irreplaceable."
"You're right, but the person you found on the dark web is me."
"You? Impossible."
David immediately objected. He looked at Lily. "The person I found is fairly reliable and well-known on the dark web. At your age, do you think you could be famous on the dark web?"
Lily said calmly, "I was just taking a side job to make money. After all, writing firewall systems isn't my first time - I'm very familiar with the process. But when I saw the company address yesterday, I realized it was you, so I declined."
After Lily finished speaking, she looked at David.
His expression turned ugly because the person he found had indeed declined after learning the company address yesterday.
David looked down at the documents in front of him, not knowing what to say for a moment.
Lily continued, "The first time I registered on the dark web was when Michael's tech company had problems. I wanted to teach myself computer skills to see if I could help. Later, after Michael found out, he forbade me from having any contact with the dark web."
David said, "You must be feeling pretty smug right now, came here specifically to watch me make a fool of myself, right?"
She looked up at David. "Honestly, I don't have time for that."
"Then why did you still come? To let me know that without you, I can't even find someone I trust, right?"
David tugged at his tie, in a bad mood.
"Mr. Roberts, let's make a deal. According to the original agreement, I'll rewrite a firewall code for you, and you give me the lead."
Lily's gaze was steady. "This should be a good deal for you."
"Lily, what makes you think I'll agree? I don't even trust outsiders - you think I can trust you? Do you know how much trouble you caused me when you suddenly hacked into the system that time?"
David didn't want to go through the same thing again.
"But you went to the dark web, doesn't that mean you can't find anyone suitable?"
Lily stood up. "I'm not in a hurry. You can contact me if you change your mind. If you don't want others to know I wrote the firewall software, we can sign a confidentiality agreement."
She knew David cared so much about his dignity that he definitely wouldn't want the Roberts family to know.
After Lily finished speaking, she was about to leave when David's voice came from behind.
"Lily, would you rather make a deal with me this way than let Austin go once?"
"It's not that I won't let him go - it's you and Sophie who won't let him go."
Lily stopped and looked at him mockingly. "Is it fun to keep guilt-tripping me?"
David was provoked by Lily's look.
He exploded, pointing at the calligraphy and shouting, "Lily, do you dare say that in front of what Dad left behind?"
"Do you dare? Tell them what really happened without feeling guilty at all?"
Lily stood her ground. "At least I don't deceive myself, and I don't guilt-trip others while acting completely innocent."
She left without looking back.
David swept everything off his desk in anger.
Lily heard the voice from the office: "Get back here!"
Lily's lips curved slightly. She knew David couldn't hold out much longer.
After all, outsiders might leak the Roberts Group's business secrets, but she had no reason to - the company was the branch her parents founded.
Lily returned to the office.
Soon, the secretary had the contract ready. She glanced at it and sighed directly.
Lily handed over the contract. "Where's the lead?"
David kept a straight face. "I thought you were really cold-hearted, didn't want to find the person who escaped that year."
Lily pressed her lips together. "Don't waste time."
"I spent so many years and only found a small lead - it's related to the Harper family."
"The Harper family? Samantha's family?"
David nodded. "That's right."
Lily thought about how the Harper family covered for Samantha. So it seemed the person driving back then was likely someone from the Harper family, and they had a driver take the fall.
"Lily, even if you know, there's nothing you can do to investigate. You're too weak on your own."
Lily shot back, "I'm so weak, yet you still need to work with me?"
After she finished, she saw David's face instantly darken.
Her mood improved considerably, and she left the building directly.
Lily hadn't expected it to be related to the Harper family. It seemed she needed to figure out how to investigate and find out which member of the Harper family went to Imperial City back then.
Lily returned to the school team base.
The film crew was still shooting there, but there were far fewer onlookers.
"Lily, you're late again today."
Peter sat calmly under a sun umbrella, looking at her. "Even though you're my sister, isn't it wrong to keep everyone waiting so long every time you're late?"
Sophie stood nearby, enjoying the spectacle. "Yeah Lily, you're the only one whose scenes haven't been filmed yet."
Lily's eyes were cold. "I think it's fine. I'm not in a hurry."
"Lily, what kind of attitude is that!"
"I have team training later, no time to film."
Lily dropped that line and left, not caring how ugly Peter's expression was.
As long as she wasn't anxious, then she wouldn't be the anxious one.
Peter liked playing the good brother role in public, right?
Then she'd let Peter clean up the mess. When Peter couldn't take it anymore, he'd naturally stop deliberately making things difficult.
As soon as Lily got back to the office, Peter stormed in angrily.
"Lily, you did that on purpose?"
"Yeah, I did it on purpose."
Lily looked at him with a half-smile. "It's not my money the crew is burning anyway."
"Good, so you've gotten smarter."
Peter was somewhat annoyed. "But don't think you've won. We'll shoot the outdoor scenes tonight - you don't have training at night, do you?"
"Fine."
Lily agreed directly. Since Peter didn't plan to drag things out here, she was too lazy to tangle with him either.
After all, she really couldn't afford to waste time.
Peter left in a huff.
Zoey came in with a smile. "Now he won't deliberately stall anymore, right?"
"Probably not. Peter cares most about his dignity - he can't possibly keep dragging this out."
"Lily, but from Peter's look, he doesn't seem like he'll give up easily. You need to find a solution soon, you can't keep being threatened by him."
Lily nodded. "I've already compiled dirt on him these past few days. Once it's exposed, he'll be ruined and miss out on this year's Best Actor award."
After she finished speaking, she noticed someone seemed to be outside the half-closed door.
Lily looked over. "Who's there?"
No sound from outside. Zoey walked to the door and looked. "No one there."
Sophie hid around the corner. She looked at the conversation she'd recorded on her phone, showing a smug expression.
If Peter heard this, he'd definitely teach Lily a lesson.
Lily, you brought this on yourself.
