Chapter 166
Chapter 166
Wendi
Out of the corner of her eye, Wendi saw Adam approach a middle-aged man that looked enough like Jenny, that she realized it had to be Alpha Silver. Strangely he didn’t seem to be the one directing the warriors. Instead he simply walked through the battle as if he were simply a bystander.
Adam and Alpha Silver began to argue. She couldn’t hear what was being said but she could tell that although they had once been friends, they were definitely at odds now. Alpha Silver pointed to Wendi with an angry expression while Adam pointed back towards where the wolves seem to be coming from. Alpha Silver shook his head and Adam shook his fists.
Suddenly Adam shifted into a huge black wolf. He was only slightly smaller than the one she was riding on as Tony raced across the field towards where her friends were preparing for attack. Adam’s lips curled back, so that his teeth shown and Wendi knew he was snarling.
Alpha Silver also shifted into a light grey wolf. He was of a similar size as Adam but Wendi could tell he wasn’t as fit. The two old friends began to circle each other. The gray wolf quickly raised his paw and raked a claw over Adam’s face. Wendi could see that a line of blood began to form across Adam’s nose. He howled loudly before Adam lunged and the wolves began to roll around on the ground. Fur was flying and blood sprayed the grass as they tore into each other
Tony skidded to a stop between Kami and Charlotte. He dropped to the ground and Wendi quickly jumped of his back. She readied her staff. “Go” she said as she pointed to the fighting. “Be safe and come back to me” she yelled as Tony ran out towards where the fighting was the thickest.
A sharp yelp caught Wendi’s attention. She looked up just in time to see Jenny running towards her father and Adam. Adam had Alpha Silver’s entire neck in his mouth. His jaws clamped down and snapped shut. Jenny screamed. It was too late. Adam opened his jaws and Alpha Silver’s limp body fell to the ground. Wendi didn’t need to feel for a pulse to know that Jenny has just lost her father.
Adam stood over his friend with a look of pain in his eyes. He didn’t seem to be paying attention, so he didn’t notice when Scarface approached him from behind.
Jenny elbowed past Adam and hit her knees. She cradled her father’s head in her lap. With tears in her eyes, she turned to speak to Adam. Scarface used the distraction to suddenly wrap his arms around Adam’s neck. Wendi screamed but it was too late. Wendi heard the snap of the Twins father’s neck all the way across the field as Adam’s wolf slumped to the ground.
Wendi began to run towards Adam’s body when Jenny jump to her feet and attacked Scarface. She was kicking and slapping while she screamed at him. She accused him of getting her father killed, as she raged at him.
Scarface reached out and grabbed her around the neck. He yanked her from her feet and dangled her off the ground. “I warned you, I wouldn't be trifled with, you stupid cow. You walked us right into a trap.”
He looked her in the eye coldly as his hand closed around Jenny’s throat. Jenny clawed at his hand as he slowly and agonizingly crushed her windpipe. He watched as the life drained from Jenny's eyes.
Wendi could see him squeezing as she raised her stave and ran to them. She didn't like Jenny, but she didn't want to see her die. Unfortunately, she was already blue by the time Wendi got within striking distance and she knew it was over.
Once she got close enough, Wendi brought her staff down across Scarface’s arm and he yelped unexpectedly. It was a hard hit, but not enough to do any real damage. He unceremoniously dropped Jenny’s body and turned to Wendi.
“Human” he snarled.
The rogue stepped back and transformed into his wolf. He began to snarl and Wendi’s heart began to beat wildly. She brandished her wooden staff but knew deep down that this was a battle she couldn’t win. She decided she wasn’t going down without a fight. She slowly began to count in her head as she prepared to start her flag routine. She tried to remember everything that Matt had been teaching her during training. Wendi spun her staff and began to circle the wolf.
Scarface snarled at her. She raised her staff when she suddenly felt something brush against her. A giant black wolf lunged past her and attacked Scarface. The fighting was fierce and the wolf was moving so fast she wasn’t ever sure which of her mates it was.
Before she really had time to register what was happening around her, she was suddenly attacked by a small grey and white wolf. The wolf was quick, and Wendi found herself having to focus on her own fight.
She spun the stick and smacked the wolf across the jaw as it lunged at her. It snapped and snarled as it tried to bite into Wendi’s knee. She quickly blocked and countered with a quick jab of the staff to the wolf’s soft under belly. It yelped and took a few steps backwards. It shifted around on its four paws for a moment before it lunged again. Wendi managed to hit it mid-flight this time. She swung the staff as hard as she could like a baseball bat and slammed it into the side of the wolf’s head. The wolf fell to the ground and didn’t move.
Once Wendi realized that her attacker was unconscious, she turned her attention back to Scarface. He was now fighting both of the Twins. Blood covered the ground and dripped from the mouths of the two big black wolves. She watched in horror as Asher lunged at the rogue and ripped his throat out. Scarface fell to the ground in a heap.
Tony let out a blood curdling howl like Wendi has never heard before. All eyes on the field turned towards him as he stood over the bodies of Alpha Silver, his daughter and Scarface. The Silvermoon wolves all turned and suddenly ran from the field.
Asher ran to his fallen father and nudged him with his nose. Adam didn’t move and Asher began to whimper. Tony joined him as he lay on the ground near the body. Wendi ran to her mourning mates and threw her arms around them as tears poured down her cheeks.
