Chapter 177 Austin Awakens
Chapter 177 Austin Awakens
After the officers finished taking down the statement, they said to Ella,
"Judith has been detained by us. She's confessed to everything. This case is very serious, and we will definitely handle it strictly."
"Thank you so much. If you need me to cooperate with anything, just let me know," Ella said gratefully.
"Alright. If Austin wakes up, please notify us too. We need to take his statement as well."
Ella nodded in agreement, and the two officers turned to leave. Jason had been there with her the whole time.
After hearing about the entire case, Jason felt scared just thinking about it. He thought Ella was really lucky.
Judith was truly ruthless and cruel. She had really lost her mind!
Right now, Ella only had one thought - she hoped Judith would be severely punished by the law.
Actually, this time the Raymond family wouldn't let her off either. Judith was getting what she deserved.
All three people from the Brooks family got their comeuppance. It was truly satisfying.
But Ella hadn't expected Austin to be hurt this badly. She didn't know when he would wake up.
Austin stayed in the ICU for four whole days, and Ella kept watch outside the ICU for four days.
At first, Margaret cursed at Ella and blamed her for everything.
Gradually, she shut her mouth and couldn't bear to blame her anymore.
Because she had also learned that the real culprit behind Austin's car accident was Judith.
Judith had been detained by the police. She only had minor head injuries and was otherwise fine, but what awaited her was severe legal punishment.
Margaret had always liked Judith the most. She never expected that Judith could be so insane and vicious.
Although she wouldn't admit it out loud, her attitude toward Ella clearly wasn't as hostile anymore.
Margaret also remembered that back when Austin's legs were paralyzed, it was Ella who took care of him day and night.
On the fifth day, Austin finally slowly regained consciousness from his coma.
He felt pain in many parts of his body, as if he had been having a long dream.
In the dream, a car came speeding toward them, about to hit Ella.
He pushed Ella away and felt himself being thrown into the air. This dream repeated over and over, who knows how many times.
His eyelashes trembled as he slowly opened his eyes. Everything he saw was white, and there was a strong smell of disinfectant.
He could hear machines beeping nearby. There was an IV bag hanging above his head. Austin felt like his whole body had fallen apart.
He must be in a hospital. He turned his head slightly and saw a figure slumped by the bedside.
Ella's face was pale, her cheeks even thinner than before. Had Ella been watching over him this whole time?
How long had he been unconscious? His throat felt dry and itchy.
He tried to lift his hand, but found one arm was in a heavy cast, and the other had an IV in it.
One of his legs was suspended high up, wrapped like a mummy.
"Austin, you're awake?" Margaret happened to walk in just then and saw this scene. She cried out in surprise.
Hearing the voice, Ella suddenly looked up and met Austin's sickly face and those deep eyes.
"Austin, you're awake? I'll call the doctor right away." Ella said excitedly and quickly pressed the call button by the bed.
The doctor and nurses arrived quickly and examined Austin.
"Austin's consciousness is clear. The blood clot in his head has slowly disappeared, but the other injuries on his body will probably need some time to heal."
"It doesn't matter, as long as he's alive, as long as he's alive!" Margaret's tears flowed down as she murmured.
"How long was I unconscious?" Austin asked in a hoarse voice.
"You've been unconscious for five days. In a bit, you can eat a little liquid food. You need to take it gradually and slowly return to normal eating."
The doctor answered, and gave some additional instructions, which Ella took to heart.
After the doctor left, Austin said to Margaret,
"Mom, your health isn't good either. You should go back home."
"Okay, I'll go back then. Tomorrow I'll have someone make some nutritious soup and bring it to you." Margaret nodded.
After Margaret left, only Austin and Ella remained in the room, and it suddenly became very quiet.
Ella felt the disinfectant smell in this VIP room was making her chest feel stuffy.
Austin stared at her for a while before speaking in a hoarse voice,
"Ella, I thought I would never see you again."
"Thank you for saving me back then. When the caregiver comes later, I'll hand things over, and you can focus on recovering." Ella said in a flat tone.
Austin's heart sank. Hearing that Ella wanted to leave, he tried to sit up, but it pulled at his wounds.
Ella jumped up in alarm, pressed him back down on the bed, and scolded:
"What are you doing? The doctor said you need to lie flat. You can't move around yet."
Austin was sweating from the pain, lying weakly on the bed, his eyes full of sincerity.
"Ella, everything before was my fault. I'm a jerk. I'm sorry. I apologize for everything I've done."
"But I know that when I saw that car coming at you, all I could think was that I didn't want to lose you."
"I don't expect you to forgive me right away. I just want you to give me a chance to show you how I'll be from now on. Is that okay, Ella?"
After Austin finished speaking, Ella didn't answer. The only sound in the room was the beeping of the machines.
Ella slowly stood up. Her mind was in turmoil, and she didn't know how to respond.
Seeing that Ella didn't refuse, Austin's mind stirred. He immediately started acting pitiful, furrowing his brow and pretending to be in pain, his voice becoming extremely weak and pleading:
"Ella, you can see the state I'm in. I probably won't be able to leave the hospital anytime soon."
"Could you stay by my side and take care of me for a while? Just considering that I almost died."
Ella wanted to refuse, but seeing his pitiful appearance, she couldn't get the words of rejection out.
After all, he had suffered all this because of her, and had barely made it back from death's door.
Taking care of him for a few days was only right.
Ella knew better than anyone that Austin was extremely difficult to please.
Even with a caregiver, he would probably be picky about everything. She might as well consider it repayment for him saving her life.
Once Austin was mostly recovered, they would be even.
Ella had no choice but to nod in agreement, though she still said with a cold face:
"I agree, but don't get any other ideas. I'm only doing this because you saved me. I'll take care of you temporarily for a while."
