Chapter 176 The Murderer is Caught

Chapter 176 The Murderer is Caught

He opened a bag, placed it on the bench, squatted down beside Ella, and took out cotton swabs and disinfectant. He said to Ella:

"Since you don't want to leave, let me treat your wound. Bear with it, it might hurt a bit."

Ella nodded mechanically, her eyes still fixed on Austin lying in the bed inside without blinking.

Jason quietly treated Ella's wound and wrapped it with gauze.

After finishing everything, Jason handed Ella a paper bag.

"Ella, go find a place to change your clothes. They're all dirty. Can't I stay here and watch for you?"

Ella had calmed down a bit by now. Looking at the clothes in the bag, she said gratefully:

"Thank you, Jason. If you hadn't come today, I really wouldn't have known what to do."

"Don't mention it. We don't need to say these things to each other. Go change your clothes quickly, and eat something when you come back."

Ella nodded, took the bag to the restroom up ahead, and changed into the clothes Jason had bought.

Jason was really thoughtful - he bought a casual outfit that was comfortable to wear and fit her well.

Looking at herself in the mirror, Ella tidied her messy hair, walked to the sink, and washed her face.

Then she returned to the ICU door. When Jason saw her come back, he handed her another bag.

"Ella, eat something. Do you want to call Briar?"

When Ella heard this, she remembered that her phone had rung several times, but she had ignored it. Briar must be worried.

Thinking of this, Ella took out her phone. Sure enough, there were several missed calls, all from Briar.

Ella called Briar back, saying she had something come up suddenly and forgot to tell her. She said she had to go on a business trip, and as for when she'd be back, it wasn't decided yet.

Briar was relieved to hear from Ella. As long as Ella was okay, that was all that mattered.

Ella ended the call and told Jason:

"Jason, don't tell Briar. Keep it from her as long as possible, so she won't worry."

"I know, I'll keep it from her. Are you planning to stay here the whole time?" Jason asked.

"Let's wait until Austin wakes up!"

As she spoke, Ella sat back down. Jason sat beside her and handed her the food.

"Ella, eat something."

"Just leave it here for now, Jason. I really can't eat right now. When I'm hungry, I'll eat."

"I won't mess around with my own health. I just have no appetite right now."

Jason had no choice. He could only do everything he should do, thinking of staying here to keep Ella company.

But Ella refused. She said to him:

"Jason, go back. I'll take care of myself. I'm counting on you for the company."

"Alright, then I'll come see you tomorrow. If anything happens, call me right away. I'll come whenever you need me."

Only then did Jason stand up. He looked at Ella, reluctant to leave.

Ella just kept watch silently like this. Then Margaret returned and stood outside the ICU, crying uncontrollably.

After crying, she looked at Ella viciously.

"You jinx, get out of here! I get upset just looking at you. This is all your fault!"

"I know you don't like me. You've hated me from the start. But in this situation, I'm not leaving. I'm staying here to watch over Austin until he wakes up," Ella said expressionlessly.

"You bitch, get out!" Margaret shouted angrily, raising her hand to slap Ella again.

Ella reached out and grabbed Margaret's wrist tightly, her eyes full of anger, warning coldly:

"Don't push me. Austin did end up like this because he saved me, but do you know who hit him? It was your favorite Judith!"

Hearing Ella say this, Margaret looked completely disbelieving. Her pupils instantly dilated, and she shook her head.

"How is that possible? Judith is so gentle and kind. How could she hit someone?"

"Then go investigate yourself. Gentle and kind? I don't know which eye of yours saw that she's really gentle and kind?"

As she spoke, Ella forcefully threw off Margaret's hand.

Her eyes looked at Austin, completely ignoring Margaret. Margaret angrily turned and left.

The entire hallway instantly returned to silence. Ella looked at Austin lying in bed, his body full of tubes.

A living, breathing person, Austin, who had been so high-spirited, was now lying motionless in bed in the blink of an eye.

At least he was still alive, which was fortunate.

The scene of Austin pushing her away and lying in a pool of blood kept replaying in her mind.

Life was truly so fragile. Ella recalled all the things that had happened between her and Austin over the years, flashing through her mind like slides.

Ella sat in the cold hallway, keeping watch for a whole night without a drop of water or food.

The next day, shortly after dawn, Jason rushed over. Seeing Ella still sitting there motionless, with the food beside her completely untouched.

Jason's eyes were full of heartache, and he said somewhat angrily:

"Ella, let me take you back. Stop staying here. What's the use of you staying? You can't help anyway. Are you trying to kill yourself?"

"Jason, why did you come so early?" Ella turned her head to look at Jason and asked.

"The food I bought you yesterday, you didn't eat anything! Are you trying to destroy your health?"

As Jason spoke, he reached out to pull Ella, wanting to take her away.

"Come on, I'll take you back to eat and sleep."

"Jason, I'm not going back. I have to wait here. I already said, I'll go back when Austin wakes up," Ella broke free from Jason's hold and said stubbornly.

After Jason tried to persuade her for a long time, Ella had no choice but to compromise. Under Jason's supervision, she ate a bowl of oatmeal porridge that Jason had bought.

"That's right. Ella, if you keep this up and don't take care of yourself, I'll take you back by force if I have to," Jason warned angrily.

"I know, I was wrong, okay? Jason."

Ella knew Jason was concerned about her. She wasn't someone who didn't appreciate kindness.

Seeing that Ella had recovered some energy, Jason asked:

"By the way, the police still want to take your statement. If you think you're okay now, I'll tell them to come over?"

"Tell them to come," Ella nodded.

Jason took out his phone and dialed the number the police officer had left him.

In less than half an hour, two people arrived, showed their badges, and introduced themselves.

Ella explained the whole story of what happened that day, and also mentioned some of the past conflicts between her and Judith.
