Chapter 17 IF ONLY THEY HAD A FATHER LIKE BRION

Chapter 17 IF ONLY THEY HAD A FATHER LIKE BRION

"Yeah! That was what Uncle BRION said," River countered, supporting his twin sister. Just like winter, he has blonde hair, only that his hair is always slightly tousled as if he just rolled out of bed or had been playing outside.

No matter how much I brushed it, it always tangled after a while. His grey eyes are a deep, rich shade that seems almost wise beyond his years.

He always reminded me of someone. DASHIELL. Even though he had my eyes, he still looked like his father. A miniature version of the man I never wanted to think about.

Sighing, I squatted in front of them, grinning as I reached over to pat their hair. "Mum apologizes for not taking you with me. Don't worry, I will let you tag along the next time I'm going for a brand reveal," I promised, despite knowing I might not fulfill it. Not only would it be a hassle taking them with me, but the last thing I wanted was for them to meet Dashiell.

Whatever it takes, I intend to keep my kids as far from him as I can. I won't let them meet him. Else, all I had worked for, for years, would be in vain. "Pinky promise?"

"Yeah." I linked my right and left pinkies with theirs, and sealed the agreement off with my thumb.

"What else are you supposed to say?" Willow demanded, not about to let me off the hook until I had completed the words of assurance I taught them. Puffing out an exasperated breath, I said the words they were waiting to hear from me, "This thing I promise to you, break it I won't dare."

"Good." Satisfied with my promise, they enveloped me in a hug. "Welcome home, mummy!" They spoke at once.

"Sorry to interrupt, but you guys seem to have forgotten me!" Brion whined, capturing their attention.

"Uncle BRION!" They broke from my embrace and rushed over to him, giggling as he carried them up, twirling them in the air, one after the other.

I watched them with a smile, my stomach tightening as I thought of how unfortunate they were to have a father who didn't want them. If only I would find a father like Brion for them, things would be better. If only...

While BRION got the kids ready for school, I prepared breakfast. This would be their official first day in school, so I wanted to pack a lunch box for them since it was their favourite. They hated the food they ate in the school cafeteria back in the States, and always asked me to make lunch for them.

I doubt the kindergarten in Paris would be the same as their former school, but I wasn't leaving anything to chance. It was their first day, after all.

After preparing breakfast, I had my bath and got dressed for work. I wore a rich, plum-purple shirt that complemented my cool, grey eyes perfectly, and I paired it with sleek black pants. I didn't bother tying my hair up. My blonde hair cascaded down my back in soft, silky waves, framing my heart-shaped face and accentuating my striking features. It gave me the vibes I was going for. Dressed and ready for work, I left my room so I could pack the lunch boxes I had prepared for my babies.

I had just finished everything I was doing and was in the process of calling out to them when they raced down the stairs, giggling with Brion.

Winter was the first to arrive in the kitchen. Brion, always the fashion diva when it came to my kids, dressed her in a stylish and playful outfit that suited her bubbly personality. Winter was putting on a black jean skirt that fell just above her knees, paired with a bright red polo shirt that added a pop of colour to her overall look, it brought out the beauty of her hair.

Like always, my twins were dressed identically. River was putting on black jeans that were slightly faded and worn, giving him a relaxed and comfortable look. And he paired it off with a red shirt. His hair, unlike Winter's, was messy, adding to his endearingly rumpled look. My darling certainly, would be a heartbreaker when he enters high school. Willow would undoubtedly be a neck-turner. 1 "So, how do I look?" Brion asked, stepping into the room.

I had to pick my jaw up from the floor as I watched him advance towards me. Clad in a sleek and tailored black suit that stressed his broad shoulders and confident stride, he looked like he just walked out of a novel. The black suit was immaculately tailored, fitting him like a glove and stressing his athletic build. A crisp white shirt and slim tie completed the look, adding a touch of sophistication and polish.

His green eyes, as he watched me, waiting for my comments, were a piercing, emerald shade that seemed to bore into mine, sparkling with intensity and hint of mischief.

"Perfect!" I said, at last, knowing I might end up writing a long essay about his looks, should care not be taken.

"Like always." Grinning, he lifted the lunch boxes as he asked the kids to keep up, leaving their school bags to me.

"Mum, let's go!" River, always a lover of anything academics, yelled out as they hastened after BRION.

"Coming!" I carried their favourite animated characters' school bags and my back handbag before I quickened towards the door, snagging the key on my way.

Brion had some things to do at work, so I was the only one driving to their school, not like I minded.

After helping me sit them in the car, and giving them a farewell kiss, he walked over to his car, while I got into the black Audi I bought a day ago, just for this reason.

As my kids sang rhymes, I drove them to school, grateful it was still early. Otherwise, we would have been stuck in traffic.
