Ayanna POV
After a few weeks, Jenny informed us about her wedding, and everyone was especially happy for her. It was a joyous moment, and we all looked forward to celebrating with her.
Although Jenny insisted I help with the wedding preparations, she was clear about one thing-she didn't want anything extravagant. She preferred a simple yet elegant ceremony. The wedding was set to take place in the garden of the main family mansion at dusk, with the reception held in the same venue.
Unlike most brides who invite hundreds of guests, Jenny kept her wedding intimate. She invited only close friends and family-people she knew genuinely cared about her happiness. It was a small but meaningful celebration, and we all admired her for choosing what truly mattered over societal expectations.
Finally, after all the preparations, the wedding day arrived. Jenny looked breathtaking in her wedding dress, the happiest I had ever seen her. The ceremony was beautiful, filled with heartfelt vows and emotional moments.
Not long after the wedding, Allison's pregnancy neared its due date, and I took it upon myself to care for her. She needed all the support she could get, and I was more than happy to be by her side.
One day, as we sat together, she suddenly turned to me and asked, "Ayanna, why didn't you agree to an ultrasound to find out the baby's sex?"
I smiled at her and replied, "Oh, it's simple. I just want it to be a surprise for me."
That night, we bonded over random conversations, laughing and reminiscing about the past. We were watching a movie when, suddenly, Allison gasped, clutching her belly. Her face twisted in pain. My heart raced as I realized what was happening-she was going into labor!
Panic set in, but I tried to stay calm for her. "Breathe, Allison. Just breathe," I told her, even though I was the one panicking inside. At the same time, I started shouting for Travis. Within moments, he rushed downstairs, quickly assessing the situation before grabbing the car keys. Without wasting time, we hurried to the hospital.
The doctor and a team of nurses were already waiting when we arrived at the hospital. As soon as we stepped into the emergency room, they rushed forward with a wheelchair.
"She's in labor," I blurted out, my voice slightly shaky.
The doctor gave a reassuring nod and turned to Allison. "Alright, ma'am, we'll take good care of you. Just breathe and try to stay calm."
The nurses helped her into the wheelchair and immediately wheeled her toward the maternity ward. Travis and I hurried behind them, my heart pounding with a mix of anxiety and anticipation. This was it-the moment we had been waiting for.
Once we reached the delivery ward, a nurse turned to us. "Only one person can be with her during delivery."
Travis immediately spoke up. "Ayanna should go in."
I looked at him in surprise, but he gave me an encouraging nod. "This is our baby. You should be there."
I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded, following the nurses as they took Allison into the delivery room. She was transferred onto the hospital bed, her face contorted in pain as another contraction hit.
The doctor quickly assessed her condition. "She's fully dilated. It's time to push."
Allison gritted her teeth, gripping the sides of the bed. I rushed to her side, holding her hand tightly. "You've got this, Allison," I whispered, trying to be strong for her. "Just a little more."
She let out a strained laugh between contractions. "Easy for you to say-you're not the one pushing out a baby."
The nurses guided her, instructing her to push when needed and breathe in between.
After what felt like an eternity, a loud cry suddenly echoed through the room. My breath caught in my throat as the doctor lifted a tiny, wriggling baby into the air.
"Congratulations!" he announced with a smile. "You have a healthy baby-" He glanced at the nurses before turning to me. "Would you like to do the honors?"
Tears blurred my vision as I choked out, "Boy or girl?"
The doctor grinned. "A beautiful baby girl."
I let out a shaky laugh, my heart swelling with overwhelming emotion. I turned to Allison, who was exhausted but smiling. "She's here," I whispered, squeezing her hand. "She's really here."
One of the nurses wrapped my daughter in a soft blanket before gently placing her in my arms. I stared down at her tiny face, tears spilling down my cheeks.
"Travis is going to lose it," I murmured, already imagining his reaction.
I stood there for a moment, staring down at my daughter, completely overwhelmed. She was so tiny, her little fingers curling slightly as she let out soft whimpers. My heart swelled with love, and I knew I had to share this moment with Travis.
Wiping the tears from my cheeks, I turned to one of the nurses. "Can someone call the father in?" My voice was thick with emotion.
The nurse nodded with a warm smile and stepped out of the room.
A few seconds later, the door swung open, and Travis rushed in, his eyes filled with worry. "Is everything okay?" His gaze darted between me and Allison before landing on the small bundle of joy in my arms.
I let out a shaky laugh and nodded. "Everything's fine."
He took a hesitant step forward, his breath hitching as he looked down at the baby. "Is that...?" His voice trailed off, his emotions getting the best of him.
I smiled, shifting slightly so he could see her better. "Meet our daughter."
Travis exhaled sharply, as if the weight of the moment had just hit him. He ran a hand down his face before reaching out, his fingers trembling slightly as he touched the baby's tiny hand. "She's so... small." His voice was barely a whisper.
"She's perfect," I corrected gently.
Travis let out a soft chuckle, his eyes glistening. "Yeah. She really is."
The nurse stepped forward. "Would you like to hold her?"
Travis nodded quickly, but I could see the hesitation in his movements. "Are you sure, is that okay?" he asked me.
I smiled, carefully placing our daughter in his arms. The moment she settled against his chest, something in him twirled. His entire body tensed for a moment before relaxing as he cradled her close.
"Hey, princess," he murmured, his voice filled with awe. "I'm your daddy."
I watched as his tough exterior melted away, replaced by pure, unfiltered love.
Allison, still lying on the hospital bed, chuckled weakly. "Well, that was worth all the pain."
Travis tore his gaze away from the baby just long enough to look at her. "Allison... thank you. We can never repay you for this."
She waved a hand dismissively. " I just fulfilled my promise and I'm happy the baby came out healthy and please let her know she was from a place of love , I know you already have a daughter it shouldn't be hard."
Travis looked down at our daughter again, his expression softening even more. "She'll know," he promised. "Every single day."
