Chapter 83 Trouble Knocking
Chapter 83 Trouble Knocking
Amanda placed a slight knock on Wills's door. He was in the study where she came to join him. She held a brown envelope behind her.
"Can I come in? Amanda asked.
Wills looked up from his work, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Of course, come in. Since when did you start asking?"
Amanda stepped in, "Do you have a moment? There is something I need to ask you"
Wills looked curious, "that sounded too serious and I don't like it." He gestured for her to sit, his attention fully on her now. "What is going on, Amanda?"
She handed him the brown envelope, saying, "I found this."
"What is it?" Wills asked but Amanda gestured to him to open it.
Wills took the envelope, his brows furrowing as he opened it. His eyes widened as he went through the documents inside. "How did you...?"
Amanda interrupted, "Is that what matters to you right now? Well, I stumbled upon it while organizing some files. I cleaned the whole room out. Now tell me, Why didn't you tell me about this?"
Wills sighed, placing the papers on the table, "I see no reason why I should mention this."
"What? You see no reason for you to mention having a trust fund worth millions of dollars?" Amanda asked, almost yelling. "Amazing"
"What has that got to do with my relationship with you?" Wills responded, his tone rising too.
Amanda's frustration flared, "Wills, it has everything to do with our relationship! We're supposed to be lovers, partners, sharing everything."
Wills leaned back in his chair, his expression defensive. "I didn't want it to change how you see me. Money has a way of complicating things."
Amanda shot back, "Complicating things? Keeping something like this from me is what complicates things and you know that."
"It's no big deal, Amanda. You just have to trust me" Wills exclaimed in frustration.
"Trust? If this is about trust, you have shattered it." Amanda retorted.
"Because I didn't tell you about some money I've got? I haven't even signed it." Wills yelled. "And if we are really talking about trust, it works both ways. Come on, you hardly tell me anything."
"Like what?" Amanda snapped. "Like having four children and I don't even know their father? Like getting entangled with two brothers? Like…" Wills interrupted her.
"Like struggling with your feelings for Rowan. You are always absent minded when it comes to things that have to do with me…as your lover. You left your heart with him and you wouldn't even talk to me about it."
Amanda's eyes welled up, "so this is what it is? This is about Rowan."
Wills sighed. He never intended to bring Rowan into that conversation but it was a reflex action. "I don't…" Amanda continued, interrupting him.
"I told you from the start it was going to be like this. I told you it would be difficult."
"You never told me you would not be willing to let go." Wills interjected, his tension rising again. "It's been a whole year and it still feels like yesterday. I didn't sign up for that."
"Is that your excuse, Wills? Blaming this argument on my past? You've been keeping secrets and now you throw it back at me," Amanda said, her voice trembling. "Maybe this was all a mistake. I'm always going to be on the wrong side, isn't it?"
Wills sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "Amanda, that is not what I meant…" he tried to protest but Amanda didn't let him
"We should end this, that is what I meant" Amanda said, looking away.
"What!" Wills leaned forward, earnestness in his eyes. "Amanda, please. We don't have to do this. We can deal with Rowan together. It's still me. I haven't signed any documents. It's just there, waiting for the right time. I didn't want money to come between us."
Amanda didn't respond, allowing silence to consume them for the moment. The door flung open and the silence was interrupted.
"There you are," Mrs. Roberts said, panting. "You need to come see this," She exclaimed. Her time was urgent that both Wills and Amanda followed her immediately.
When they got to the living room, Mrs Roberts pointed to the T.V screen. The children were also in the living room, their eyes glued to the screen.
The news anchor's voice echoed through the room as Wills and Amanda stared at the TV screen. The headline read: "Wilson Xi accuses brother's ex-girlfriend, Amanda, for the Murder of Mabel."
Wills clenched his fists, a mix of shock and disbelief on his face. "What is this? What's happening?" he muttered, unable to take his eyes off the screen.
"According to the post on his social media page, Wilson said he would do everything in his power to get his girlfriend the justice she deserves. He claimed Amanda is a serial killer and Mabel was not her first victim." The newscaster said.
Amanda was visibly shaken. She reached for her phone to see Wilson's post only for her to realize thousands of hate comments under the post.
"She should have been arrested by now. You can not kill a fellow human and expect to walk a free man"
"To think that she cheated on Rowan with the detective that keeps covering up for her is evil"
"You can't mess with the Xi family and go scot free."
"Justice for Mabel"
"So, she is the real murderer of Mr. Kenny?"
Amanda read the comments loud, her voice shaking as well as her hands. "That's enough" Wills snatched the phone from her.
"This is absurd! How can they say I murdered Mabel? And even Mr. Kenny?"
"Calm down, we will get to the root of this. It can't be that bad." Wills said, trying to calm Amanda.
"I don't think so," Mrs. Roberts, still catching her breath, added, "It's all over the news.
"And they started a protest already." Adora said. "Justice for Mabel" she read out loud from her phone"
Amanda turned to Wills, her eyes wide with panic. "We need to do something. If all of these are true, the police will be knocking on this door any moment from now"
"I should have been informed already if that were to be the case. I will call the department" Wills said, reaching for his phone
.
"Guys…."Tyler called out, standing close to the window. " I think we have got company"
