“It has been a long time since I have been this relaxed. Thank you, babe, for taking us out.” Natalia said as she kissed Sean on the cheeks.”
“As long as you are happy, it is all that matters.”
Jojo looked at her mother and spoke, “Mommy, I need to use the washroom. Will you take me?”
“Of course, baby. Come on, let us go. Honey, we will be right back.”
“Sure, you guys go ahead.”
As Sean was still waiting for Natalie and Jojo, a few people passed by and, upon seeing him, they stopped.
Leo looked at Sean with a respectful expression as he spoke, “Mr. Cole, you are here too?”
Sean looked up from his phone, and upon seeing Leo, a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “Mr. Thompson. I hope you have been well.”
“Yes,” Leo nodded.
He looked around, and upon not seeing the person he was looking for, he could not help but ask, “Where is Natalie? Are you all by yourself?”
“Oh, my wife just took our daughter to the restroom; they will be here in a bit.”
“Oh, that is good. It has been a while since I last saw them. Are you done with your dinner? If not, could you please join us?”
“I don’t think that would be possible. We were just leaving. My wife has an early surgery tomorrow, and she needs to rest.”
“Oh, I understand. In that case, I will let you be.”
Jason looked on without saying anything. He wondered when his father and this man had become so close.
Did he know that he almost beaten him to death some time ago?
He looked at his dad and whispered, “Dad, what are you doing? Let us go.”
“What is the rush?” His father dismissed. “You should learn a thing or two from Mr. Cole.”
“Dad, what? Do you even know what this man did to me?”
“Whatever he did was for your own good. You should be thanking him instead of whining like a child.”
“Dad!”
“Enough!”
As the son-father duo were in a stalemate, Natalie returned with Jojo. Seeing Leo, she smiled happily, “Uncle, you are here?”
Leo’s face turned into a doting smile. “Natalie, you are very bad. You promised to visit me, but I have been waiting for almost an eternity.”
Natalie smiled sheepishly, “Uncle Leo, I have been so busy with my mother’s case, but once it’s done, I will come and visit you with Jojo.”
“That is more like it. And sorry about your mother’s case. I heard that your father and the others were placed under house arrest. I just never imagined that things would turn out like this.”
“It is okay, Uncle Leo. This is just protocol, and once they are proven innocent, they will get their freedom back.”
“Okay, dear. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out.”
He looked at Jojo and called out, “Jojo, dear, aren’t you going to say hi to your grand-uncle?”
Jojo looked at her parents, and only after getting their permission did she walk over and hug Leo.
Leo picked her up and pinched her lightly on her chubby cheeks, “Good girl. I bought you many toy but your mommy is reluctant to bring you over. I don’t know how you are going to get them.”
“Really? You bought Jojo toys?” Jojo asked in her childish voice.
“Of course.”
“Wow, Jojo is very happy,” She looked at her mother before she continued, “Mommy, when are you taking me to grand-uncle’s place so that I can play with my toys?”
Natalie thought about it before she said, “Okay, we will go over the weekend.”
“Yay! Grand-uncle, see you this weekend.”
“Good girl.”
Jason finally had a good look at Jojo, and realization hit him, making his heart skip a beat.
He cleared his throat and asked, “Jojo, right?”
“Yes, my name is Jojo, uncle.”
“How old are you?”
“I am…”
Before Jojo could answer, Natalie cut her off, “Jojo, we shouldn’t keep your grand-uncle waiting. It is time for us to leave.”
“Yes, mommy.”
Sean took Jojo from Leo’s arms, and the trio left the hotel, leaving a stunned Jason behind.
He looked at his father and asked, “Father, what just happened? Why do I have a feeling that Jojo is my daughter?”
Leo looked at him, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, “You fool, have you suddenly come back to your senses? But don’t you dare cause Natalie, I will not forgive you. Her husband is not someone you can afford to offend.”
“Dad, what are you talking about? Isn’t her husband just some assistant to a big shot?”
“You are ignorant, that is why you will never measure up to him. The man you are looking down at is the infamous Boardroom Beast.”
Jason was stunned that his mouth remained wide open for a few seconds. He quickly recovered and laughed out loud as if he just heard the funniest joke of the century.
He looked at his father and spoke, his voice filled with humor, “Dad, are you drunk already? Or has the old age finally caught up with you?”
“What do you know? Do you even know why the company almost collapsed a few weeks ago?”
“Dad, you don’t have to remind me about that now and then. I know that we lost a lot of cash flow when our products were stolen. I am still looking for the bastard who did it, and once I catch him, I will not spare him.”
Leo shook his head, and he could not say anything anymore. His son was way too arrogant to tell what was right or wrong.
Anyway, he can just blame him for spoiling him so much.
“When are you going to see your wife?” He shifted the topic.
Jason smacked himself on the head, “Oh, fuck! I completely forgot about it. I should have seized the opportunity and spoken to Natalie about it. She was the one who told the police to put them under house arrest, and only she can let them go.”
Leo looked at his son, and something shifted in his eyes. He warned in a stern voice, “Son, I hope you had nothing to do with this case, because even I won’t be able to save you if you are involved.”
Thinking about the man who spoiled his wife to the core, Leo’s heart shook. If Jason were somehow involved, he wouldn’t be spared.
