As dinner was progressing, Sean looked at Leo and said, “Mr. Thompson, you can bring your proposal tomorrow, and I will have a look at it.”
Leo was stunned when he heard that. Sean had been clear during the day that he was not going to help him. Who would have thought that a few words from Natalie and he was willing to change his mind?
He must really love Natalie a lot.
Leo was so emotional that he did not know what to do. He looked at Natalie and spoke, “Natalie, you found yourself a good man, please cherish him.”
“Thank you, uncle. If not for Sean, I don’t know how my life abroad would have been. I wouldn’t even have become a doctor if it were not for him.”
Leo turned to Sean, “Mr. Cole, I treat Natalie like my own daughter, so I would never allow anyone to hurt her. If you can’t love her properly, then you can as well let her go. She has been through a lot in the past. I wouldn’t wish to see her go through the same pain again.”
Sean waved his hand, “Uncle, you have nothing to worry about. Natalie and Jojo are my life. My heart only beats for them, and I would never do anything to hurt them. And since my wife likes and respects you, you can just call me Sean. There is no need to be too formal.”
Dinner went smoothly, and they soon left.
In the car, Jojo fell asleep as soon as Natalie placed her in her seat.
Sean had called over his driver since they had drunk quite a bit during dinner, and they could not drive.
Natalie rested her head on his shoulder, and after thinking for a while, she decided to ask, “Honey, had my uncle come to you for a business proposal?”
Sean had nothing to hide from Natalie, so he nodded, “Yes, but I had turned him down. That jerk dared to cause trouble for you yesterday, so I was planning to teach them a lesson, but seeing how well his father treats him, I decided to give them another chance.”
“Hmm.” Natalie nodded.
“Actually, Uncle has always been so nice to me. He was so sad that I was leaving back then, and I thought that after so many years, he wouldn’t treat me well anymore. But he hasn’t changed much. He is still so nice to me.”
“And that was why I decided to work with him. Anyone who treats my wife well is a good person, so I will take care of them.”
Natalie giggled after hearing that. “You are the big boss, so whatever you say, honey.”
She turned her head and looked at Jojo before she frowned. Sensing her change in mood, Sean asked, “What is wrong? Are you worried about something?”
“I… I don’t know if Uncle Leo would get suspicious about Jojo’s real identity. The last thing I want is to get involved with that man again. I don’t want him anywhere near my daughter.”
Sean hugged her and assured her, “With me here, you have nothing to worry about. And I am sure that uncle would never tell Jason anything even if he knew the truth.”
The next day…
“Dad, how did you manage to do it? Didn’t you say yesterday that it was impossible to get the contract from that man? How come he changed his mind at last?”
Leo looked at his son and sneered, “You don’t have to know anything. If you mess up again, I am going to take back everything.”
“Dad, you don’t have to worry. I won’t mess up again. I will work really hard and take good care of your company. You have nothing to worry about.”
“You better not disappoint me.”

A few days later…
Natalie finally got some information about her mother’s case.
The officer in charge of the case called her and Sean to the police station because he had found an important clue.
“Natalie, Sean, so much evidence has been destroyed, but we did not give up. We actually managed to find something crucial.”
“What is it, Damon?” Natalie asked.
“First of all, from all the evidence I have collected so far, your mother’s death is not even related to that car accident.”
Sean and Natalie were stunned. Natalie’s eyes widened in shock as she asked, “What do you mean?”
“Your mom was murdered. The car accident was just a cover-up.”
“What the hell? Damon, I can’t follow.” Natalie said, her face turning extremely pale.
Her body trembled, and it was only after Sean hugged her tightly that she calmed down.
“It took us a lot of effort, but we finally retrieved her car, the one she was in when the accident happened. From the forensic report we received, the car had been intentionally damaged and taken to the crime scene. It was never involved in an accident. Everything in the car is intact, including the brakes.”
Sean folded his other hand into a tight fist.
“Someone intentionally misled the police, and given the fact that your family never wanted to pursue this case, the evidence was slowly eroded. Besides, it looks like someone paid off the police just so they would close this case.”
“I would suggest you try talking to your father so that he can tell you exactly what happened. It has been many years since your mother was buried, and even if we exhumed her body, we won’t be able to uncover anything.”
When Natalie left the police station, her head was in a mess.
She had suspected from the start that her mother’s death was not purely an accident. But she never imagined that the truth would be darker than she had expected.
So, someone had intentionally killed her mother, and then they made it look like an accident! Was her father involved? Was that why he never wanted to do a thorough investigation and instead chose to close the case?
“Babe, I cannot take this. I thought that my parents were the most loving, and I used to admire them a lot. But now, I realize that I never knew my dad’s true colors. What had changed?” Natalie broke down in Sean’s arms. She was not aware that her body spasmed.
“Honey, we can’t jump to a conclusion just yet. We will hear what your father has to say first.”
