Chapter 284 Hearts Filled with Happiness and Security
Chapter 284 Hearts Filled with Happiness and Security
Leila's POV
My heartbeat accelerated, warmth flooding my cheeks as an involuntary smile spread across my face. So this explained Sophia's "special occasion," and why Theron had been mysteriously busy these past few days.
I watched as Theron walked toward me, his eyes filled with expectation and love.
When he reached me, his tall figure stood straight and dignified in his tailored suit. The formal attire made him even more handsome than usual.
He extended his hand to me, his eyes gleaming with tenderness. "Ready to go in? Sorry for the surprise."
I couldn't help a mixture of laughter and exasperation—for such a significant life event, he had chosen to surprise me rather than discuss it beforehand. "Aren't you worried I might say no?"
Theron smiled slightly. "I'm confident you won't. We should have done this long ago."
Taking a deep breath, I placed my hand in his. "Well, since you've gone to all this trouble..."
Theron grasped my hand, his smile deepening as he softly said, "Thank you."
Our fingers intertwined, we ascended the steps together. Behind us, photographers captured the moment, flashbulbs continuously popping.
Entering City Hall, I noticed the lobby was unusually quiet, without the typical queues of people.
Theron, seemingly reading my confusion, explained quietly, "I arranged for a private session. We have the place to ourselves for this time slot."
Staff members greeted us with smiles, leading us to a counter where all necessary forms and materials had been prepared.
We sat down to fill out the paperwork, and I carefully wrote down my information, occasionally glancing up to see Theron focused on his own forms.
After completing the forms, we signed and provided fingerprints together. The entire process felt solemn and sacred.
Sophia and Adam accompanied us throughout, witnessing everything. Sophia occasionally took out her phone to record moments, her eyes glistening with emotional tears. Adam maintained his characteristic composure, but the softness in his gaze was something I rarely observed.
I noticed how Sophia's yellow dress created a striking contrast with Adam's dark suit. Standing together, they made a remarkably complementary pair, almost like a couple themselves.
As we finished our paperwork and prepared to leave the counter, the staff member looked toward Sophia and Adam standing behind us.
"Your turn next, you two," she said pleasantly.
Sophia visibly froze, belatedly realizing the staff member was referring to her and Adam. Her cheeks instantly turned crimson, like a ripe apple.
"No, we're not... we're not..." Sophia frantically waved her hands, her voice becoming uncharacteristically stuttery. "We're just here for them..."
The staff member looked confused. "Oh, I thought you were next in line to get married."
Sophia's embarrassment deepened as she stared fixedly at her shoes, unable to look at anyone.
I couldn't resist throwing a teasing glance at both of them, especially my brother. Surprisingly, he hadn't offered a single word of explanation, and his expression showed no resistance or displeasure.
These two were progressing faster than I imagined. Perhaps it won't be long before they stand in this same spot.
When the staff member handed us our marriage certificates, I felt my heart pounding. Theron accepted them solemnly, examining one carefully before passing the other to me.
"Now for the vows," the staff member announced with gravity.
Theron cleared his throat, his voice deep and steadfast: "I, Theron Sterling, take you, Leila Reed, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."
Drawing a deep breath, I followed with my own vows: "I, Leila Reed, take you, Theron Sterling, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."
After the vows, Theron unexpectedly produced an exquisite small box from his pocket, kneeling on one knee as he opened it.
Inside lay a sparkling ring—a platinum band adorned with tiny rubies that glimmered brilliantly under the lights.
"This ring is specially made for you," Theron explained softly. "Our names are engraved inside. The red rubies symbolize our enduring love and happy future together."
Taking the ring, I turned it gently to see our names indeed inscribed within.
"I love it. I really do," I whispered, my eyes growing moist.
Theron took the ring, delicately held my left hand, and slowly slid the ring onto my finger. "From today onward, you're my wife, Mrs. Sterling."
I retrieved the other ring from the box and placed it on his finger. "And you're my husband, Mr. Sterling."
We smiled at each other, and in that moment, all the twists and waiting seemed worthwhile.
Completing all formalities, our group exited the City Hall doors.
Theron and I walked side by side, holding our marriage certificates, hearts filled with happiness and security.
Sophia approached first, giving me a warm embrace before addressing both of us: "Congratulations! I'm so happy for you both. You finally made it official!"
Adam followed, displaying a rare gentle smile. He patted Theron's shoulder, then took my hand: "Congratulations, Laylie. I hope every day of your life is as happy as today."
