Chapter 283 Marriage License

Chapter 283 Marriage License
Theron's POV

I glanced toward the adjacent room where Leila was engrossed in the movie Sophia had brought over. The soft light from the television cast a gentle glow on her face, highlighting the delicate curve of her cheek.

"This Friday, I want to take Laylie to get our marriage license," I said quietly to Adam, keeping my voice low.

Adam's eyebrows shot up, surprise evident in his expression. "So soon?" He paused, studying my face. "I thought you'd wait until after the baby was born."

"It's not soon at all," I replied, my tone steady and resolute. "This has been planned, and it's time I gave her the official status she deserves. I've already spoken with your parents, and the wedding preparations are underway. On Friday, you and Sophia could come as witnesses. Having you all there would make Laylie happy."

Adam's gaze turned sharp, penetrating. "Fine, but let me be clear. If Laylie suffers even the slightest hurt from you again, you'll never get another chance with her or any Randall family member. Ever."

I offered a slight smile, making my commitment clear. "Don't worry. It won't happen this time."

The tension in Adam's face eased marginally, and he finally granted me a hint of approval. It wasn't much, but it was progress.

While my body remained engaged in conversation with Adam, my attention never truly left Leila. I noticed how pregnancy had made her particularly drowsy. The movie she was watching with Sophia was barely halfway through, yet she was already rubbing her eyes and stifling yawns.

When she yawned for the third time, I immediately wrapped up my conversation with Adam. "Laylie looks tired. I should get her to bed."

I crossed the room to her side, speaking softly. "If you're tired, you should rest. You can finish the movie another day."

After saying a quick goodbye to Adam, I gently picked up Leila and carried her as we left his house and returned to our own home.

Leila's POV

I woke to the sound of my phone buzzing with notifications. Sleepily reaching for it, I saw our family group chat was particularly active this morning. Nathan had sent a photo with a message: [This morning, the boss took Miss Grey to watch the sunrise. Their embrace in the sunlight was quite atmospheric!]

The picture showed Adam and Sophia silhouetted against the dawn sky, standing incredibly close to one another.

Time flew by rapidly, and before I knew it, Friday morning had arrived. I had just finished breakfast when Sophia burst in, full of energy. She looked exceptionally polished today, wearing a pale yellow spaghetti-strap dress.

"Hey Laylie, are you free today? I need you to come somewhere with me," she asked.

I looked her up and down, noting her unusually formal attire. "What kind of place requires such formal dress?"

Sophia lowered her voice conspiratorially. "It's kind of like a formal event. We need to dress up first, otherwise we can't get in. I brought something for you too—totally pregnancy-friendly."

Glancing around, I realized Theron seemed to have left early, and we had the house to ourselves. I shrugged. I had nothing else planned anyway. "Sure, I've got nothing else planned anyway."

"Great!" Sophia exclaimed, grabbing my hand excitedly. "Let's go to your room and get you ready!"

Back in my bedroom, Sophia eagerly pulled out a white dress with a unique design from her shopping bag. "This is specially designed for pregnant women. The fabric is light and flowy, completely conceals the baby bump, and it's super comfortable."

I ran my fingers over the material. "Isn't this pretty expensive?"

"Don't worry about that. Today's special. It deserves special clothes." Sophia smiled, then produced an entire set of makeup products. "These are all pregnancy-safe, completely harmless for the baby."

Under Sophia's guidance, I changed into the white dress. True to her word, the clever design elegantly concealed my baby bump, making me look graceful and poised. Sophia carefully applied a subtle makeup look, then helped style my hair into an updo, finishing the ensemble with a pearl necklace and matching earrings.

I twirled in front of the mirror, surprised by my transformation. "This makeup is so elaborate! I never do this much when I do my own."

Confused by all the preparation, I asked, "This seems way too formal. What exactly are we doing? Is this something with you and my brother?"

Sophia just smiled mysteriously, shaking her head. "You'll see when we get there! Trust me, you'll love it."

Though bewildered, I followed her lead. After finishing our preparations, we headed downstairs to leave.

Sophia's car eventually stopped in front of an imposing building. Looking through the window, I recognized the City Hall sign.

"Why are we here?" I asked in surprise.

Sophia's lips curled into a knowing smile. "Get out first, you'll see."

Still confused, I followed her out of the car. As soon as I steadied myself, the scene before me left me stunned. Standing on the City Hall steps was a group of familiar faces: Theron, who should have been at the office, stood in the center wearing an impeccable suit; Adam and James, along with professional photographers carrying equipment.

When Theron saw me, tenderness immediately illuminated his eyes, his lips curving into a smile.

My mind went blank for a moment, and suddenly everything made sense. This wasn't some party. This was the day Theron and I were getting our marriage license!
