(Freya's POV).
I immediately wiped away my tears when I heard the sound of the door opening and it was Devan. I didn't want him to see me crying and feel even more guilty and sorry for me. I also didn't want to burden her with all the problems that had happened to me.
"Oh, he's back," Stella said, "I'm going out to buy some food. You guys can chat at your leisure," she said as she walked past Devan who was approaching me.
"Thank you for accompanying Freya," Devan said.
Stella smiled. "It's okay."
"Stella, thank you," I said to her and she replied with a small smile as she walked out of the room.
"What about Adam?" he asked. His palm gently rubbed my cheek and he sat on the edge of the bed.
"The doctor just examined him and he's fine. He went back to sleep after the doctor gave him some medicine," I told him.
"That's good. He needs more rest to recover."
"Dev, what about the results?" I asked, my voice sounding so low. And he looked at me with a meaningful gaze.
"I've taken care of everything. You don't need to think about the hit-and-run. You just need to focus on caring for Adam until he gets better," he said.
But I felt there was something he was hiding when I saw the expression on his face. He looked like he was holding something back, his face also looked so tired. I'm sure he had less time to rest, plus he was taking care of all the problems for me.
"I'm sorry that I've troubled you," I said.
"What are you talking about? I don't feel inconvenienced at all, Freya. I'm happy to do it. It makes me feel that you need me, and I hope you will continue to do so."
I glanced at Devan's hand playing with my fingers as he smiled. This feeling, this atmosphere makes me recall the memories of the past before we got married. Before everything became a nightmare for me.
Devan is a sweet and caring guy. He always treats me well and makes sure I always get what I want. He treats me like a princess which made me fall in love with him.
And back then, I really felt the sincerity of all Devan's gestures to me. Like now, I feel that the Devan in front of me is the Devan I used to know.
I miss him so much...
"Dev," I called.
"Hm?"
"Thank you for everything..."
He swallowed and I stood up as he pulled my hand away. He hugged me tightly and I let our position stay like that for a while until he released his embrace. His soft fingers brushed my cheek pulled the children of my hair and tucked them behind my ear.
"I should be the one thanking you."
"For what?" I looked at him, confused.
"Because you've survived to this point without me. I'm also very sorry for letting you go through all the things that happened alone. You must have had a hard time when you were pregnant and gave birth to Adam. Let alone raising him without me. If I had been more mature back then, you wouldn't have gone through all this," he gripped my hand tightly and I felt his hand trembling. "Forgive me."
"How long do you want to apologize to me?"
"Until you come back to me?"
I paused as I looked at him. "I'm still confused about what to do, Dev. I'm afraid you'll become difficult because of me. I'm afraid of troubling you in all the troubles that befall me. I...."
"I've never felt that way. You know that I love you very much. I am at this point with my determination to get you back. So, I will not back down to achieve my goal. Because my goal is you... I don't want to give up, Freya."
"Dev," I whispered. I swallowed my saliva with difficulty. I covered his face, the face I missed so much. With such a close distance, I could see the changes in Devan's face as he matured. Some sideburns hadn't been cleaned and he looked more charming than ever.
He kissed my palm and looked at me. "I've contacted Tristan," he said.
My eyes widened in surprise. "Tristan?"
"Hm. I think he has a right to know about Adam's current condition. So today I called him and told Tristan about the matter. He's on his way here."
No, he's not.
He was also one of the reasons why I left them. Because of Tristan's affection for me, I didn't want to cause any more trouble than this. You became so nervous when you found out Tristan was on his way here.
"Why are you looking so sad like this? Don't you like seeing Tristan anymore?"
I shook my head quickly. Devan must not know that Tristan loves me. "Oh, no. I'm just a little surprised that you contacted him. Isn't your relationship not good?"
He chuckled. Making me furrow my brow.
"What's so funny?"
"I know he likes you."
"Wh-what?" I blinked. Gawking in confusion and surprise.
"He was being honest with me that he loved you. And our relationship wasn't that bad, Freya. Men are more likely to get along and forget about the problems that have occurred."
"Oh, that...." I swallowed hard. I pulled my hand that had been on his shoulder and tried to step back to avoid him. But Devan quickly pulled my waist so that I was back in his arms.
"Why are you so surprised?"
"No, I'm just... Dev, Iー"
"I'm okay. After all, he already promised me to surrender. You're mine, Freya. And if he still insists on chasing you, I won't let him get away with it either," he smirked as he kissed my lips.
"You're really sneaky. And who says I'm yours? I haven't decided whether to come back to you or not," I teased him.
He growled and dropped his head on my chest. "Come on, don't make me suffer more."
"You said that I could think about it slowly and you would wait for me. Does that no longer apply?"
He immediately looked at me with a serious expression on his face. "It would be better if you decided without taking too much time."
