Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Emily POV
I run a nice bath full of water for me and Madi. I sit and look around the bathroom. Mason left everything as it was. He just topped everything up again. I know when I left five years ago, there was only half a bottle of bubble bath left, but now there is a full bottle again. My favourite soap is still here.
I feel so well-rested after last night. I have to thank Mason for letting me sleep in a bit. That's not the only reason why I feel so fresh this morning. I forgot how comfortable the bed was that Mason bought me.
Although when I woke up this morning and realized what time it was I had a mini heart attack.
I jumped up and immediately went to find Madi because she is always awake before me. That's also the reason why I never have to set an alarm clock. I walked into her room and realized she wasn't there. I went into full panic mode. For five years, I was the sole provider for Madi. I honestly thought she was gone.
I only started to relax when I saw Madi and Mason together in the living room. That is another thing. The love that he has for Madi is so apparent.
The picture that Madi pressed into my hand just made me realize again that I did the right thing. All the doubts that were in my heart disappeared at that moment. It is way too early to know if we will be the perfect family that, that little girl has in her mind.
I don't know when my bags were taken out of my car but I'm thankful for that. Now I don't have to run down in a robe to go and get it. Ready for the day, Madi and I make our way down.
Jesieka is already setting the table when I walk in there. There is a small table in the kitchen. I wonder why Mason doesn't use the table in the dining room anymore?
Jesieka gave me a radiant smile when she saw me.
"I hope bacon and eggs are okay for you. Our wonderful Madi requested it for breakfast when I put her to bed." I look at Madi questioningly.
"That's funny. Usually, she asks for waffles." Jesieka gives a laugh while placing my plate in front of me.
"She already had waffles for dinner last night." I look at Madi but she just shrugs her shoulders. I have a feeling that she already has Jesieka wrapped around her little finger.
"I had my favourite food last night so I guess it was mommy's turn today." I just shake my head. This child is a different person. Every day I wonder how I have gotten so lucky.
Mason comes down moments later. His hair is still wet from the shower he took. He is wearing casual clothes. It makes me wonder a little because I know he has to work today.
"Jesieka, do you know what time Jason will be here?" My hand half moved to my mouth. I knew I was going to run into Jason at some point, but I hoped it wouldn't be so soon. Am I ready to see him?
"Jason was here already. He saw you together in the living room and walked out without saying a word. I think he just wanted to give you some time together." I see Mason's face get a tender look in his eyes. There was sympathy on his face.
I wonder what happened? Why did Jason walk away without saying hello? I know things we a little tense, but I was hoping that maybe I could get my friend back.
"What are your plans for the day?" Mason begins to eat while looking up briefly as he waits for my answer.
"I have quite a busy day today. I have to look for a job and an apartment. Then I also have to find a school for Madi." I can see the wheels turning in his head. I can only guess what he's thinking. He proved my thoughts right when he started talking.
"First of all, you know you're welcome to stay here for a while. Second, I can get you a job at the hotel again. I'm not the boss for nothing. Finally, why do you have to find a school for Madi? Isn't she still too young?" I sigh. How can I turn everything down without hurting him?
"Mason, I don't want to lie on your neck. I didn't come back for you to take care of me. I want my own apartment. My own space. I also don't want to work at the hotel again. How can I walk in there after five years as if nothing happened? As for Madi, she's going to year one next year. There are things she can only learn at school."
"Okay, I just made a suggestion. I don't want to fight. Remember we're starting on a clean slate. Let's make it this way, while you're busy looking for a job you can stay here. Once you've saved enough to buy an apartment for sale, I won't stop you from moving out. I'm just asking that if you're struggling to find a job, you'll talk to me and I'll get you a job in one of my businesses. It doesn't necessarily have to be at the hotel to be. I have many other businesses as well. I promise you, I only have your interests at heart." This is new. In the past, he would definitely bite my head off and made a huge deal. I really like this new Mason.
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Will you keep an eye on Madi for a moment? I still have to call James."
He nodded his head as he turned his full attention to Madi. Madi starts babbling towards her father. Moment like these make me fall in love all over again. He looks at Madi like she is the only person in the room.
I get up and move to my room. It's the only place where I know I can speak the way I want.
