Chapter 160 Jealousy and Comfort

Chapter 160 Jealousy and Comfort

Emma knew she was finished—not only had her mission failed, but she might lose her job entirely.

She abandoned all pretense, grabbing her scattered jacket to frantically cover her chest, head down, practically fleeing in humiliation. She didn't even bother cleaning up the water puddle or picking up the dropped glass.

The office was left with only Henry and Sophia.

The air still carried a lingering trace of unpleasant perfume and the embarrassing aftermath of the recent spectacle.

Henry watched Sophia's expression carefully, emphasizing once again with nervous tension in his voice, "Sophia, I truly had no idea she would pull such a stunt. I..."

Sophia remained silent, simply walking over to sit on the sofa and placing the documents that needed his signature on the coffee table. Her expression was neutral, revealing neither pleasure nor displeasure.

But Henry keenly caught the slight purse of her lips and the flash of subtle irritation that flickered through her bright eyes.

This minute emotional shift brushed across Henry's heart like a feather.

Was she jealous? This realization didn't annoy him in the slightest—instead, it filled him with joy.

Henry couldn't help but smile. Sophia was jealous because of him.

He approached her, but instead of sitting on the adjacent sofa, he reached out with a mixture of exploration and irresistible dominance, scooping her up from the sofa.

Then he sat down himself, settling her on his strong thighs while his arms encircled her slender waist like the most secure chains, holding her tightly against him.

"What are you doing? Let me go!"

Sophia hadn't anticipated this move. Her body instantly tensed, hands pressing against his chest as an uncontrollable blush spread across her cheeks. She struggled to escape.

This position was far too intimate, too dangerous, especially after what they'd just witnessed.

"Don't move." Henry's low voice resonated near her ear, carrying heated breath as his arms tightened further, imprisoning her firmly in his embrace as if he wanted to meld her into his very bones.

"Let me hold you for a moment."

His chin rested gently against her silky hair, his tone carrying a satisfied sigh. "I'm happy."

Sophia's struggles paused, feeling both exasperated and bewildered, "Happy about what? Happy that your new assistant threw herself at you, or happy that I almost witnessed an intimate scene between you two?"

Her words carried obvious anger, but to Henry's ears, they only confirmed his suspicions.

He chuckled low in his chest, the vibrations traveling through thin fabric to her back, creating tingling sensations.

"What makes me happy is," he turned his head, warm lips nearly touching her sensitive earlobe, his voice dropping to an extremely low register filled with bewitching magnetism.

"That you feel unhappy when another woman appears by my side."

Sophia's ears instantly flushed deep red. As if he'd struck at her innermost thoughts, she felt both embarrassed and annoyed, struggling with renewed vigor.

"Who cares! Stop being so conceited! I just thought... thought she was an eyesore!"

"Right, right, an eyesore."

Henry readily agreed, his tone brimming with indulgence and affection, though his arms remained immovable. "Don't worry, I won't let her remain an eyesore in your presence much longer. Give me a few days, and I'll find an appropriate reason to make her disappear from Windsor Group entirely."

His tone was casual yet carried unquestionable determination.

Sophia fell silent for a moment.

She knew Henry could do it, and would do it cleanly and efficiently. But after consideration, she shook her head, "Forget it, there's no need."

Henry raised an eyebrow, "Hmm?"

"She's someone your mother placed here."

Sophia's voice grew calm, carrying rational analysis. "If you forcibly fire her, it's equivalent to directly defying your mother. The relationship between you two isn't particularly harmonious to begin with; no need to create additional conflict over this matter."

Though she disliked Luna's methods and found Emma's behavior disgusting, she was even more reluctant to see Henry's relationship with his mother deteriorate further because of her.

That blood bond, however thin, was still a connection.

Having no family ties herself, she valued the rarity of having relatives who cared about you.

Henry glanced at her and immediately understood her thoughts.

His heart melted completely, while a deeper tenderness welled up within him.

His Sophia—always like this, appearing aloof on the surface but soft-hearted within, constantly considering his well-being.

He couldn't help but tighten his embrace, drawing her deeper into his arms, his voice low and resolute, "Don't worry, I won't allow anyone, under any pretext, to make you unhappy—not even my mother."

He paused, his tone carrying absolute confidence and a hint of coldness, "As for my relationship with my mother, it's mediocre at best anyway—this won't make any difference."

"An assistant with ulterior motives trying to climb the ladder through underhanded tactics is a liability to the company. Firing her is perfectly justified."

Meanwhile, Emma, who had fled the CEO's office in humiliation, hid in the restroom, staring at her disheveled, inappropriately dressed reflection in the mirror. The more she thought about it, the angrier and more unwilling she became.

She pulled out her phone and directly dialed Luna's number.

The moment the call connected, she began her performance with a tearful voice, completely distorting the truth, "Mrs. Windsor... I... I was bullied by Ms. Brown!"

"She suddenly burst into Mr. Windsor's office, saw me reporting work to Mr. Windsor, and without any reason started berating me, even... even insinuating that I was seducing Mr. Windsor!"

"Mr. Windsor seems to be under Ms. Brown's spell, too—he even defended her and wants to fire me. Mrs. Windsor, you must seek justice for me! I was only following your instructions."

She perfectly omitted her attempts to seduce Henry, shifting all blame onto Sophia while portraying herself as an innocent victim of bullying.

On the other end, Luna's expression grew increasingly dark as she listened to Emma's embellished, tearful accusations.

Especially upon hearing that Henry had defended Sophia, her well-maintained face became covered with frost.

She snorted coldly, her tone filled with bone-deep disgust and unquestionable authority, "Just as I suspected—she's completely classless."

"Just like all those other women, using such despicable methods to bewitch men! Fine, I understand the situation. For now, lay low and don't give her any ammunition to use against you."

"As for Sophia... hmph, I have my own ways of dealing with her!"

"So... Mrs. Windsor, can I continue working at the company?" Emma continued inquiring, her tone carrying undisguised ambition.

Luna replied without hesitation, "Of course. Without my orders, no one dares to transfer you easily."

After hanging up, Luna's gaze turned sinister. She couldn't allow Sophia to continue bewitching Henry any longer.
