Chapter 159 The Spy

Chapter 159 The Spy

"Executive assistant?" Henry repeated the term, his sharp gaze sweeping over Emma as if he could see right through her carefully crafted exterior to the scheming calculations beneath.

"I don't need any new executive assistant. My current support team is perfectly adequate."

Emma's heart skipped a beat under his penetrating stare, but remembering Luna's instructions, she forced herself to remain composed, plastering an even more submissive smile across her face.

"Mr. Windsor, this was Mrs. Windsor's thoughtful gesture. She mentioned how busy you are and felt you needed someone more attentive and reliable to assist you. She specifically asked me to take this position seriously, focusing mainly on coordinating your personal schedule and relationships."

Her words were diplomatically phrased, but the meaning was crystal clear—Luna had sent her to monitor Henry and Sophia.

Henry's expression grew several degrees colder.

His mother's interference in his personal and romantic life wasn't new, but placing someone directly in his inner circle like this was a new level of intrusion that left him deeply displeased.

"I'll handle my mother's concerns personally," Henry's tone brooked no argument. "As for you, this company operates on established protocols and genuine staffing needs. My assistant positions are fully staffed. You can check with HR to see if other departments have suitable openings."

This was a clear rejection of her role as his personal assistant, with the obvious implication that she might be transferred out of the executive suite entirely.

Emma's smile instantly froze, resentment and frustration flashing in her eyes.

She had come here on Luna's direct orders. How could she be dismissed so easily?

She looked at Henry with eyes on the verge of tears, her voice catching with emotion, "Mr. Windsor, I'm only following Mrs. Windsor's instructions. If there's something about my work that displeases you, or if I've done anything wrong, I can change. Please don't send me away, I won't be able to face Mrs. Windsor if you do."

She was trying to leverage Luna's authority while adopting a vulnerable, helpless posture, hoping to evoke even a shred of sympathy from Henry.

However, Henry detested such manipulation tactics above all else.

His frown deepened, his tone remaining unyielding, "Company decisions don't require explanations to anyone. If you can't accept a departmental transfer, you're free to seek employment elsewhere."

Without another glance at Emma's pitiful display, he turned to the administrative director who had hurried over, "Please escort her to HR to process the paperwork. See if Project Development or Marketing has any suitable positions available."

"Yes, Mr. Windsor," the director promptly responded.

Seeing Henry's unwavering resolve, Emma realized that further persistence would only humiliate her further. She could only bite her lip, her eyes reddening as she followed the administrative director away.

But deep in her gaze lurked barely concealed resentment and defiance.

After handling Emma's situation, Henry turned to Sophia, his expression filled with apology and helplessness, "I'm sorry, Sophia. I never expected my mother would..."

Sophia appeared calmer than he'd anticipated. She shook her head, her tone matter-of-fact, "It's fine. Your mother doesn't like me, so she'll find ways to create obstacles for us. That's perfectly normal."

She had been mentally prepared for this, though she hadn't expected such a direct approach.

Henry immediately called Luna, and her voice came through almost instantly, completely unapologetic, "I've already had Emma returned to her position. Don't even think about transferring her! It's not happening!"

"You haven't fully inherited control of the Windsor Group yet, so I still have a say in matters like this!"

"Mom!"

Henry felt an instant headache coming on, but Luna continued, "I'm your biological mother. Can't I arrange for someone to look after my own son at the company?"

That single statement left Henry completely speechless.

Sophia didn't seem particularly bothered by Emma's reinstatement.

Emma, on the other hand, returned to the executive floor with renewed determination.

If she could win over Henry, wouldn't that be far more appealing than merely completing Luna's assignment?

A few days later, on a quiet afternoon, Sophia needed an urgent document with Henry's signature and company seal.

She headed directly to the executive floor, knowing Henry should be in his office at this time.

As she approached his office door, she found it slightly ajar, with faint voices drifting from within.

She was about to knock when she glimpsed something through the gap that made her eyes flash with cold fury.

Emma had somehow appeared in Henry's office again, holding a glass of water while standing beside his desk. Her body was deliberately angled to showcase her curvaceous figure. Whether intentionally or through genuine clumsiness, her hand slipped, and most of the water splashed directly onto the front of her thin chiffon blouse!

Emma let out a startled cry as her shirt became soaked, instantly turning semi-transparent and clinging to her body, clearly outlining her undergarments and revealing her provocative silhouette.

A blush spread across her cheeks, her eyes a mixture of panic and calculated allure as she gazed at Henry, her voice soft and helpless with a hint of tears, "Mr. Windsor, I'm so sorry! I'm such a klutz—I can't even hold a simple glass of water properly. Now my shirt is completely soaked... what should I do?"

As she spoke, she unconsciously tugged at the wet fabric clinging to her body, her movements deliberately seductive, her eyes practically hooking onto Henry with practiced coquetry.

Henry clearly hadn't anticipated this spectacle. His brow furrowed deeply, his expression instantly darkening with obvious disgust and impatience rather than any hint of attraction or sympathy.

He was about to deliver a sharp reprimand when the office door swung fully open.

Sophia stood in the doorway, expressionless as she surveyed the scene before her, her gaze lingering momentarily on Emma's soaked, nearly transparent shirt before settling on Henry's grim expression.

The moment Henry saw Sophia, his heart clenched with panic. He immediately stood from behind his desk and rushed to her side, his voice urgent and clearly intent on explanation.

"Sophia, please don't misunderstand! She barged in here uninvited, claiming she had some trivial document to deliver, then spilled water all over herself! This has absolutely nothing to do with me!"

As he spoke, he fixed Emma with an icy stare while she continued her helpless performance, his voice cutting like frozen steel, "Emma, get out immediately! From now on, you're forbidden from entering the executive office without my explicit permission! Furthermore, your current behavior constitutes a serious violation of company policy. I'll have HR conduct a full review of your employment status!"

Emma trembled under Henry's merciless rebuke and Sophia's frigid gaze, the flush draining from her cheeks, leaving her face ashen.

She had never expected Henry to be so ruthlessly unforgiving, let alone for Sophia to witness her humiliation firsthand.
